Discount Tire Store – Austin, TX

I rarely update my reviews, but the guys at this specific Discount Tire location are very deserving of another 5-​star review. It’s been a few years since I wrote my first review, and I’ve been a few times since. The service at this location is always second to none. I scheduled my appointment online. The price was exactly as they said, and the appointment actually started ahead of schedule. I will definitely be recommending Brandon, David, Alex, and the guys at Discount Tire to everyone. Brandon was exceptional today. Patient, friendly, and helpful. That kid deserves a raise. As does the manager who hired him!

One of the tires on my six month old car was leaking air. I took it to a couple places and everyone said the tire was fine. I brought the car back to the dealership and they just visually inspected the tire and charged me $ 20 for remounting my tires. The dealership said they could not find anything but I may want to buy a new tire. Tires come with the new car are not under warranty, even though my car only have 10k miles on it.
I am glad I brought my car here before making any decisions. They inspected the car promptly and they checked everything. They pointed out the tire pressure sensor/​valve stem was loose and rebuilt it. They did not charge a single penny for the whole thing.
After the fix, the tire leaked slower. At least now I can bring the issue to the dealership. The dealership acknowledged the problem with the valve and sensor which is covered by warranty. Without these guys at DT I would have to pay for a new tire which may not help the problem at all. These guys showed that they take customers’ problems seriously, and they will have my business the next time I need new tires.

I’m a rock star! At least they treated me like one. I drove in because my tire light was lit intermittently for about … a few weeks. I walked in, asked if they could check my tires because of the light. The person (I didn’t get his name) immediately grabbed the tire pressure checker and said let’s go check your tires. Yep. He uses the thing and said all my tires are low and the weather is not helping. He pointed to where to drive my car so they could inflate all my tires.
I drove to said spot, another guy (didn’t get his name either) started to inflate all the tires. I asked if I needed to get out of the car, nope.
The whole visit took less than 10 minutes.

Great customer service! I was in and out of there within 30 minutes and everyone was so attentive and helpful. I always get nervous when it comes to things having to do with my car but Discount Tire made things so easy. Thanks for the great experience!

This is the first review I’ve ever left on Unilocal and I just had to say that I love this specific Discount Tire. I am completely blown away by the customer service here. Before I even walked in the door, an employee literally ran up to open the door for me. What a gentleman! When I walked in two employees said hello immediately and said that someone would be right with me. I love the fact that even though there was a line in front of me, these guys still stopped to acknowledge the fact that I was a person walking in. I wasn’t waiting even two minutes before I was assisted. Everyone that works here is very helpful and has a great attitude. I’ve been here a couple of times and have always had a good experience!

Watch this place! Needed my tire fixed that had a nail –easy fix but had to endure the «up sell» from the manager «Raul». I love Discount Tire in all the Houston locations but this one on Austin is not so good… I think the manager is all about selling… and making «numbers» I ended up buying a new tire I really didn’t need just to get the heck out of there! I was clear about just fix or patch. then manager seemed like he wanted me to think its the «Texas Law» to have new tires which is utter BS. Just be careful. Buyer beware!

I’ve loved all the discount tires shops I’ve been to besides this one. Terrible customer service. Guys behind the counter calling people seeing if they still wanna buy tires while we in the store are standing there not being helped. Waited 20 min to be helped. Had my check tire pressure light on. Was told to pull over to the tire pressure check station. Waited there another 15 min. So I though hell, I can work this machine and just do it myself. After checking two tires I was told to get off the machine. Which I did. Then waited another 10 min before somebody, who couldn’t work the machine tried to help. As I’m writing this review they’re people outside my car arguing whose next due to their lack of organization. Usually discount is on top of their game. Not this place. I figured they would’ve also at least put my car up to see if there was a nail but that didn’t happen either. Just 45 min to get my tires checked. Waste of time. Avoid this discount tire at all cost. And as I’m driving away now my check tire pressure light is still on so nothing was accomplished. Morons

Started off good then turned bad.
Checked online and called around different places for 4 tires for my SUV. Discount Tire on Research had an equivalent price as others for the essentially identical tires but gave $ 70 rebate on Cooper tires. Made the appointment, dropped off the car, came back when they said and it was ready. Everything good so far.
Before I drove off I looked at all four tires, like I do everytime I buy tires.
They put on cheaper tires than the ones I paid for!
Bait and switch? Well yes.
They responded to our protest immediately and put on the correct tires and gave us about 20% discount. I really wonder if that would have happened if we had stayed in the wait area instead of running a couple of errands and coming back.
Always check your tires.

I had a slow leak in my front right tire. My two front tires were not purchased at Discount Tire. I had a list of issues to be addressed to pass the state inspection and the two front tires were on that list and were replaced by the GM dealership. This Discount Tire location opened at 8 a.m. and there were quite a few customers waiting when I arrived at 7:55 a.m. There were several customer service staff available once they opened and ready to assist us. I was attended by Alexander who was very pleasant and handled my issue with the greatest of ease. My car was taken to an available bank immediately by a technician. Around 8:35 a.m., the technician approached me and said that there was a screw in the tire and my car was ready. I asked how much I owed and he said that there was no charge. This is why I deal with reputable companies like Discount Tire. They take care of their customers so we will only sing songs of praises for their professional customer service. Discount Tire has always given me the best and I will continue to patronize them.

Discount Tire is always a good bet for tire work. 8 times out of 10 they have the lowest price, but their amazing customer service and warranty programs make up for that.
I took my truck in for a rotation and balance yesterday and was met in the parking lot for my tire inspection. He asked me a series of questions and finally concluded that I didn’t need new tires, which I appreciated. So I popped down to Mister Tramps for an hour while my truck was being worked on. When I came back I had a great beer discussion with the DT employee, he sent me on my way with a warranty voucher and a smile.
I’ve had tires fixed and replaced here in the past and it’s always a great experience. I’m glad we have Discount Tire. The service assurance and stellar reputation makes the expensive process of replacing tires that much better. Thanks.

On a rainy day, I had all four tires replaced quickly and efficiently. The guy who waited on me, A.J., was very nice and polite. When my tires were ready, I was escorted to my truck in the service area so I wouldn’t get rained on and they had someone directing traffic so I could back out quickly in their busy parking lot. The tires I replaced were ones I’d also purchased from Discount Tire and they lasted eight years. Good service and a good product.

These guys were on the ball! After going to the service lane at TWO different Chevy dealers with the hopes of a quick diagnosis for a loud hum I was hearing of which neither was helpful AT ALL and only said «drop it off», I went to this Discount Tire to see if it could be the tires. Within seconds he had me cut my wheel hard left and he showed me serious tire wear that I could not see on the inside of the tires and steel belt exposed. While that wasn’t the problem for the noise (which turned out to be a hub), I told them I would buy some tires. Right there he could have sold me 4 new tires. Instead he recommended 2 new tires on the back, rotate the 2 good tires on the back to the front and get an alignment. I agreed. They had me i and out in 30 minutes. These guys were honest and did a great job. Will now be buying 6 ATV tires from them as well.

Great customer service, knowledgeable staff, fair practices, and quick turn around. If you buy your tires from here you get lifetime balance for the tires and pressure checks too. Today I was met by a friendly face as I stepped out of my vehicle. It took less than 10 minutes for everything, and everyone was super friendly along the way (and I didn’t pay a dime). This is my go to place for tires.

When asking for the total «out the door» price over phone (fees, disposal, tax) make sure to ask also for «certificates» & lifetime service pkgs, or price will grow by about $ 75.Crucial piece of info. Guy on phone quoted $ 573; I paid $ 645. I pointed that out & it was explained politely & professionally by the guy who checked me out. A+ for de-​escalating, good customer service, attention. F! for dishonesty over phone. I almost walked out if not for the nice (&persistent) guy at the front.

Best experience at a tire shop ever. I usually go to the Toyota dealership and just let them deal with everything. But they are greedy with your time and money. A co-​worker recommended Discount Tire, and I’m glad she did.
I made an appointment the day before.
I walked in at 2:45.
I was helped within a few minutes.
They were patient and answered my questions.
I bought four tires, handed my keys over and sat down to wait.
I had my keys back in my hand at 3:21. I know this because I sent my husband a text
The service was fast, friendly, and worlds better than you get from any kind of car service shop.

I have used Discount Tire for many years and in many cities. I’ve used this particular location for at least 15 years I think. In any case, I’ve never written them a review on Unilocal so I thought I’d take a few minutes and do that now. So here we go… in my opinion and experiences with Discount Tire:
Best tire selection, Best prices, Best customer service — Period.

Best tire place on town, service is great, the guys treat you with respect and show knowledge and expertise in what they are doing.
I get all my vehicles tires here and my business, this guys are honest!

TL;DR? Discount Tire was fast, friendly, FREE experience I will be telling everyone I know about for weeks. Ask for Xavier or Joe; both were great.
I got a flat tire on my way out of town over the weekend, and even though I felt like a million bucks after changing it, in my suit, in a parking garage at UT, I felt just as deflated as my tire when I realized I would have to address the situation come the end of the weekend. I skipped my run Monday morning to call the Toyota Charles Maund dealership (closest to where I live) and to get a cost and time estimate — not covered by my warranty, even though I drive a 2015 Prius, and about an hour to look over the tire to verify if it is salvageable. Ugh. The guy I spoke to over the phone also sounded like it was a huge inconvenience to pick up the phone and to talk to me about loaner cars and the shuttle service. I don’t know why I even try that place anymore. Everyone there sounds like unhappy indentured servants.
My boyfriend D. encouraged me to call Discount Tire, telling me that there were consumer friendly and that they had a policy of fixing tires for free if they can be fixed, in order to engender customer loyalty for when tire buying time comes along. That sounded too good to be true, but I called anyway to explain my situation. I had three concerns: (1) I’m female, which makes me skeptical that I won’t be taken advantage of by a dealership — mechanic avoidance is one of the reasons I bought a new car in the first place; (2) I drove on the tire when it was flat and am concerned about the wheel’s integrity, leading to a purchase where I could potentially pay more than warranted (see: gender bias, above); and (3) time constraints. I spoke to Xavier over the phone just after 8am this morning — he sounded friendly, competent, and energetic, giving me a 5 or so minute time quote for reviewing the tire, a 45 minute or so time quote for fixing it or installing a new tire, and telling me about costs. He invited me to come in and thanked me for calling. Customer service score: five stars. Although we didn’t discuss my gender relations hangups, he definitely made me feel safe and feel welcome about choosing to come in, a 180 degree improvement over the dealership, which should make handholding a priority.
I went in and was helped by a young man named Joe. Two employees greeted me when I walked in and Joe came out to my car with me to review the tire. He explained that they were able to fix the tire (FREE of charge, y’all) because the screw that the car had driven over was in the tire bed instead of on the side, and showed me the area that’s generally considered salvageable over not, patiently teaching me about my car. He was professional and friendly in getting my odometer reading and contact information, and while I was removing my heavy bike rack from the back of the hatchback, another Discount Tire employee asked if he could help me remove it. I also noticed that when a line did form in the shop that the employees, who were walking quickly around helping each other and the other patrons, would stop what they were doing to make eye contact and acknowledge that person’s presence and to let him or her know that help would arrive shortly. After living in South America for two years, such attention to customer service literally makes me swoon.
The interior of the waiting shop was clean and exceeded my expectations. The rest of the patrons were quiet and no one seemed to be furious for waiting a long time. Contrast the waiting areas at Charles Maund, where people sigh into their styrofoam coffees, bring their kids, hold extended business meetings, and yak into their cell phones. Also, there were no television blaring the news or sports, which I appreciated.
The last thing I should probably mention is that Joe took additional time with me while explaining tire grades and when to replace the tires, after I expressed an interest in learning more mechanics (literally, guys, D. and I changing that tire after a law school event in nice clothes made me feel on top of the world). I ended up declining on the tire certificate option — $ 65 dollars for Discount Tire to cover any future flats on the tire they were plugging up — because I wasn’t sure about the subrogation claim and wanted to talk to the dealership — but wasn’t made to feel bad about getting a totally free service. Such a good experience, all the way around! The Austinite in me wished I could tip.
I was incredulous before, but now I can totally understand how this business model of attentive and superior customer service keeps Discount Tire in business — when a future tire issue arises, this is the first place I will go.

When you first look at the review for this Discount Tire you get amazed at how good they are. But after now being here on three different occasions you can really see why. They seem to always be busy but the staff is actively running around to ensure everyone gets attention. At the same time, when it is your turn they make you feel like you are the most important person there.
I was being rather picky with the new wheels I wanted to buy and one of the reps there Kyle, was extremely helpful and patient with me through the whole process. When they got delivered, he called me and had them on my car in under 30 minutes.
They don’t pressure anything on you and are happy to provide some advice or suggestions if you’re not sure what is next for your car. We only take our cars to this DT and plan to keep coming back as long as we live close enough,

I have been coming to Discount Tire since I was a street racing kid in a Civic (yuck it up, punks). Service has always been fast and knowledgeable, the prices have always been competitive if not superior, and the techs know what they’re doing.
Raul took my call and got me an appointment, with the rather rare size and brand of tire I needed, within 30 minutes. When I arrived, I was greeted and promptly taken care of by Miguel. His estimate of an hour turned out to be longer than it actually took; under promise and over deliver hell yeah.
Look into their Car Care 1 credit card — six months no interest on my new tire? Why yes, that is convenient during the financial burden that is the holidays!
