A children’s playroom offers interruption-​free shopping while conference rooms provide decision-​making privacy. All this, and a staff dedicated to providing both personal service and quality selection.

We complement our style with substance. Our showroom houses state-​of-​the-​art computerized inventory management in a designer-​friendly atmosphere. Our collection includes all the popular wood flooring, stone and ceramic tile, slate, carpeting, woven area rugs, and countertop coverings your discriminating clients desire. We also stock various hard-​to-​find products such as reclaimed and exotic woods, mesquite mantles and limestone fireplaces. Stone chair rails, column insignia plates, stone switch plates and drawer pulls round out our unmatched inventory.

History

Established in 1991.

Designer Floors of Texas was launched by Mike and Donna Dixon with one goal in mind: provide unmatched flooring solutions, selection, service, and expertise. Since then, we have become Central Texas’ première flooring provider for discerning individuals, custom home builders, and interior designers. Our current facility, opened in 1999, contains 7,000 square feet of showroom space and and additional 27,000 square feet of warehouse and administrative offices.

A simple installation of white subway tile in a small bathroom has turned out to be the absolute worst experience imaginable. The installers have done a horrible job, they leave a mess every time they leave my house and they damaged a very expensive plumbing fixture. The cost of the tile was more than double what the cost was at 2 other places but my contractor told me we had to use them because they had installers. I expected good customer service and a good install but both have been beyond disappointing.

I have worked with Designer Floors in the past and experienced nothing but extreme professionalism and quality work. Thus, when I returned this spring to have them help with the total remodel of my master bathroom, I had expected to experience the same quality and professional work and assistance. Sadly, this has NOT been the case: first their designer quit just as the project was to begin even though she had worked with us for over six months preparing for the project. We were transferred to another designer that never complete his work, when the tile was ordered it was either incorrect, late, and according to them, lost by FEDEX. We finally had to have our contractor go over and find the missing box of tile sitting on their warehouse shelf ever since the job begin in early April! We even had to have our contractor go out and purchase materials to either correct their mistakes or to help speed the project along as we had workmen idling due to all Designer Floors hold ups. I would not recommend anyone using them unless you have a CERTIFIED CONTRACT (we had a signed contract that they seemed to never review) detailing that the designer will continue the project till completion and guaranteeing all materials will be delivered correctly and on time.

This is our second time using Designer Floors, and we worked with Laurie Baum both times. The first was for a kitchen/​master bath remodel; the latest was an entire house. Laurie is absolutely fabulous. She has great ideas and terrific follow-​through. We had a wonderful experience!

Taking my review down a star. The first job DFoT did for me was phenomenal, and it’s based on that job that they keep the three stars. The latest two jobs have been a real hassle. 2 – 3 week late deliveries have cost me in laborers standing around with nothing to do. The other piece that is really getting to be the rule rather than the exception is the old «computer won’t let me in» excuse. I go in on a weekend to find a bullnose to match and nobody working knows where anything is, can’t get into a computer to lookup what I just ordered to match, etc. etc. etc. Lots of computer issues.
They have used it on my at least 10 times now. It usually comes with a «I’ll call you back when I can get in» and of course there’s no call back.
I really hope whatever is going on is temporary because I have a good deal more flooring I need to do, but based on the last two experiences I’m going to be shopping around. Since most of the positive reviews seem to be old I would recommend caution if you use them. Make sure your stuff is ON your job site LONG before you book labor. Don’t trust any ‘estimates’ or promises to call you when it gets in. I’m finding you will need to bug them extensively to get your stuff. I want things to turn around because I like them, but at the end of the day, time is money and you gotta deliver.

Just went in to make selections for gorgeous office countertops, laundry room countertop and shower ceiling. The woman who helped me was delightful but was rudely told by an owner/​manager they won’t do countertops. He was very rude to her and he didn’t even acknowledge me only a few feet away. I will not go back into the store, there are plenty of tiles stores in Austin, especially ones who are polite to their employees and acknowledge their customers.

On November 9, 2010, my new hardwood floors were installed throughout the house in most areas except the kitchen, breakfast and utility. Designer Floors of Texas made the sale and did the install and I am very pleased with the results. I did «shop» this installation around to various others and everyone was extremely nice. It did not come down to price, but all were competitive and very close. However, one of my requirements was that everyone working in my home be identified — meaning I get ID on everyone. Some installers balked … guess why? Felony records! Designer Floors had no problem with this and worked with me all the way through. Their crew removed all the old hardwoods I had and installed the new in less than a week. I would highly recommend them again to anyone. Feel free to contact me regarding this. The total bid and costs were near $ 20,000 for 2,100 square feet of flooring and baseboards, which is not a lot but it isn’t chump change either.

I recently purchased materials and installation services for my kitchen (travertine tile and backsplash) and bathroom/​laundry room (flooring/​wall tile). I have been very pleased with all of the work. We worked with a knowledgable Rep, Scott Nelson. He was very responsive with daily questions/​updates throughout the project and helpful in suggestions for materials, design, and options to help us stay within budget (suggesting overstock tile rather than something from the showroom was a great idea for the less important areas). The quality and professionalism of workmanship of the crew is high and I am very happy with how it has all turned out. They came back out to fix the 1 – 2 things that we identified during a final walkthrough to ensure we were happy.
Giving 4 instead of 5 only because project went a little longer then anticipated (also scheduling was sometimes a little inconsistent) — but I realize this is the nature of the contracting business. Also future customers should carefully cover their cabinets to minimize grout/​dust splatter as they were careful but some is unavoidable.

Designer Floors is a great resource in Austin. Ask for Ron as he has helped me more than once and is a truly wonderful person.
My first experience with this store was in 2004 when I needed to recarpet and entire house. I had a few quotes, but Ron was able to make me a better deal. The place still looks great 5 years later and I am very pleased with my investment.
My second visit was in 2005 when I needed a custom rug created for my condo. Ron did a great job in selecting the materials and creating the perfect piece. I am still very pleased with that purchase as well.
The showroom on 620 is very large and full of options for you to choose from. It may seem daunting at first but Ron will guide you.
I cannot speak to the rest of the staff, but I believe the owner is named Mike if you prefer to deal with him. Everybody is super friendly and they offer you water or soft drinks while you are shopping.
The in-​home service experience I had with the first installation was excellent. The crew was supervised, they worked quickly and efficiently and they didn’t damage anything which is a huge plus in my book! They finished on time and I did not need for them to come back for any repairs.
The second purchase did not require any installation, but they delivered everything on time. I consider the entire operation to be a class act.
