History

Established in 2008.

Dylan Crain Robertson’s design/​build team of designers and craftsmen, which has worked as a unit for well over a decade, has set up shop in a distinctive Willow Street sanctuary– two old Austin houses retrofitted as a three dimensional portfolio piece and D-​CRAIN headquarters.

D-CRAIN’s thoughtful approach to modern, outdoor living has been years in the making– an outgrowth of over 15 years of hands in the soil. Dylan has been designing unforgettable spaces from his East Austin studio since 1994. In 2008, D-​CRAIN was established as a well-​oiled machine, tirelessly pursuing harmony between the structure and the landscape, leaving no stone unturned.

Collectively, the team leverages experience in architecture, ecology, philosophy and highly skilled building trades to inform and approach that is both organically nimble and elegantly minimal.

Just got off the phone with Mary Ann to discuss landscape and drainage project. Given my time frame and the scope of my project, they weren’t going to be the best fit, which she pleasantly told me. Most folks would have just ended the call right there, but MaryAnn chatted for another 10 minutes about my project doing all she could to help me out with my next steps.
Even over the phone, she did such a great job understanding what I had explained about this problem area she was able to give me some great free advice to help me on my way. Thanks ! :)

I have never seen a more talented and inspired team of designers in my life. Taking a project from concept to completion while remaining true to the original idea and budget is a rare skill set in this industry and I have always been more than pleased with all the work that has come out of D-​Crain. D CRAIN designed our landscape for our front and backyard of our house which covered what was essentially a blank canvas for both front and back and included designing and erecting a large pergola over our back patio.
From a design standpoint they far exceeded our expectations. Beautiful clean, and a less is more approach overall. Their crews are like grounds keepers. They do impeccable work, amazing attention to detail and clean up through out.
I’ll also add that their client service and follow through made them an absolute pleasure to work with. I’m in my 4th house and this was my best contractor experience for any project I have ever taken on. We are thrilled with how everything turned out.

I simply cannot say enough good things about the people over at d-​crain. We had them design and implement/​build our back yard. The work is impeccable.
They worked within budget and were informative and helpful every step of the way. They did not simply take what we wanted, put it on paper and then plant it. Nope.
What they did do was listen to what we wanted to use the space for and then given our budget and aesthetics, designed something that worked well. Then even held their ground and stayed true to the design when I wanted to take it in a different direction. The key to me is that when they did this, it was not in an arrogant manner at all. They took their time to explain why they did what they did. In the end they would have changed it if I wanted them to but they were able to show me why what they did was so effective. We kept it that way and it turned out amazing.
If you are looking for a true partner when it comes to designing and executing on a yard, deck, pool or whatever — these guys should be the first people you call.
