Established in 2003.

On a hot summer day in 2003, a group of college buddies borrowed a beat up cargo van and dubbed themselves College Hunks Hauling Junk®. People in the neighborhood would call the «College Hunks» for anything that involved strong backs and a truck. Word quickly spread about a group of friendly, intelligent college students that could help sort, move, recycle and dispose of peoples items. A business was born…

My name is Randy Blundell, I am the manager and a partner of the College Hunks franchise in Austin, TX. I moved to Austin to start the College Hunks Hauling Junk and College Hunks moving franchise. I previously worked for Pepsi where I spent 10 years training our team members how to drive trucks for sales and delivery. I am very excited for the opportunity to serve the Austin community!

My elderly parents needed someone to haul off an old, large, very heavy TV. They called a couple of other junk hauling services and were quoted a minimum charge of around $ 200. Then someone recommended College Hunks Hauling Junk, and since they aren’t computer literate, they asked me to get a quote. I was able to easily get the quote from my iPhone, and the estimate was less than $ 100. I was able to choose a time window a few days later that was convenient for my parents, and the site said that polite young men would arrive on time wearing clean uniforms. They weren’t kidding — my mother told me last night that the whole experience was first-​rate. She said that two «nice, polite young men» arrived right on time in clean, neat uniforms, and they were very efficient and nice to my parents. And they only charged them $ 95! My mom said they would recommend CHHJ to anyone.
If you need anything hauled off, call these folks first!

When they first arrived they eyeballed our junk and gave me a competitive quote. The quote is based on how much room in their truck is required to haul away the junk. These guys honored their quote, even when the junk took up a tad more room than they expected. Plus they worked fast and were courteous.

We didn’t have a positive experience with this company when they picked up our items, but immediately after finding out our experience wasn’t stellar, the owner contacted us with legitimate concern and explained what went wrong. He was extremely genuine and turned the experience around for us. Excellent customer service.

Terrance and Travis helped us out big time. We just moved into a new house, and had a ton of cardboard and trash that needed to be hauled away. We called Sunday morning, they were there before noon on the same day, and they were quick and efficient. I would highly recommend using these guys for any junk removals you need!

Could this have been any easier? I called the main number and they offered same day service, before they arrived I needed to reschedule. The called ahead of time and arrived as scheduled. They removed the items quickly and we were done.

Jake & Brian were able to get to our junk earlier than scheduled which worked out wonderfully! They hauled away a heavy recliner sofa that a certain donation pickup was unable to figure out how to get out of our house. These guys were also able to easily remove the grill we dubbed «Grillzilla» due to it’s size. They made it look so effortless! Quick, painless, bing-​bang-​boom! All the junk I was trying to figure out what to do with for months was out of my hair. Jake & Brian were so courteous and efficient. No doubts that I would recommend them in heartbeat.

Well. I left a fairly «precious» piece of ours in the «junk» pile, without realizing it. Gulp– I was in trouble with the Mr. :) I called Travis the next day, described it and he knew exactly what I was talking about. He reserved it from his rounds, set it aside at the warehouse and there it was-​waiting for me today.
Really– a small piece, in the scheme of a truck full, but he took the time to preserve something that is very specific and dear to us. WHO else would have done that?
Thanks to all for making that happen. Still at 5 stars, only because I can’t give 10.

Even though these guys are «nice» on the phone, «nice» doesn’t make up for shoddy service and deceptive business practices. They are very evasive about pricing, and the website makes it difficult to figure out what it will cost you. We went into this deal thinking that it would cost us $ 105 to have a sofa hauled away. They charged us $ 228 — more than twice what we expected. We had no explanation about the pricing until they had us over a barrel, meaning, the guys were there, and we had no other way to get rid of the sofa. To add insult to injury, we made an appointment for 10 a.m. and they didn’t show up until after 11 (saying that we had ordered the «10 to 12 window,» which it DEFINITELY did not say on the website when I signed up). We will never use these guys again.

At the end of August, they were available for next day service. They showed up on time, Travis called me when they were on their way, and they were very pleasant. It was 98 degrees, but they didn’t slow down. They were very efficient.
I reached someone on the phone all three times I called, and they didn’t sound impatient when I called just to confirm again on the day of the move. I’ve heard so many horror stories about nightmare moving experiences that I would use this company every time. They did everything right.

College Hunks does a great job.
They originally were recommended to me by Goodwill, with whom they have a partnership. I admit: I chuckled when I heard the name.
Well, the joke was on me: On the day of my move, two college football players on summer break showed up at my door. They were polite, professional, and explained that it was a perfect job to stay in shape during the summer. «It’s like getting paid to work out,» one said.
And work they did: It was over 100 degrees on the day of my move… yet, the heat and humidity did not slow them down. They never slowed down.
Scheduling was super easy. As others have noted, I appreciate that I have been able to book College Hunks on short notice.
College Hunks (along with Unicorn) are my go-​to moving companies in Austin. Both of them are head-​and-​shoulders above the rest.

How amazing!!! I went on Unilocal to look for junk removal places… decided to go with this place. so I got the Unilocal deal ($ 30 for $ 50) and booked online (saved $ 10). When I went online I saw that they had times available today? FANTASTIC! About an hour and a half before they were scheduled they called and said they could come early… THAT NEVER HAPPENS. They arrived about 20 – 30 minutes after the call and were gone in 20 minutes.
Even better… I wrote them a check for the full amount and forgot about the Unilocal coupon… THEY CAME BACK so that I could write them a check for less money and give them a coupon. Dylan and Chase were amazing guys to work with. I truly could not imagine a better experience to get rid of junk, haha.

We had this company remove an old self standing hot tub from our backyard. Due to its size, they had to cut it apart and take it out in pieces, rather than take down part of the fence.
They were very professional, and kept me very well informed during the process since no one was at home while they worked. They cleaned up what I can only imagine was a mess of foam insulation extremely well.
The only thing that prevents me from giving them 5 stars was they accidentally broke a small yard statue that was knocked over during the demolition process. I will definitely use them again should the need arise for other projects, and I heartily recommend their services.
