History

Established in 1995.

For 20 years, CHL​-Texas​.com has taught and certified thousands of Texans, enabling them to keep and receive a Texas Concealed Handgun License, or CHL (Starting January 1, 2016, this license will be referred to as a License to Carry, or LTC). We teach at several range and classroom facilities across Central Texas. Our operation is fully mobile and we can support up to 24 shooters in a private CHL class on your property. We teach basic introduction to handguns, Texas Concealed Handgun License Certification, Sharpening your Shooting Abilities, small groups, private lessons, and corporate events.

Brian M.

Business Owner

Brian is a Native Texan and Austinite since 1992. Brian spent 20 years as a software engineer and salesperson with Accenture, Dell, Bazaarvoice and numerous small startups. He is a lifelong baseball player, youth coach, and Texas Rangers fan; and currently plays senior league baseball with the Austin Saltdogs in the Men’s Senior Baseball League (MSBL). Brian is a dedicated husband and father to three beautiful boys. His dedication to family led him on a journey to learn how best to protect his home and family and decided the most comprehensive family defensive strategy needed to include handgun proficiency and home defense tactics. His studies led him to Ross Bransford, and Ross’ teachings fundamentally transformed his views about personal defense as well as gun ownership and use. Ross inspired Brian so much that he decided to take over the company and inspire the same change in his students.

If you are looking to become competent with a firearm, and get your CHL and beyond, Brian is your instructor!!! When Ross and Dottie sold their company, I had a credit with them for a CHL class that I was not able to make. Upon learning that they sold their company, I contacted CHL-​Texas to find out if my payment credit would be honored.
Brian, the new owner, has turned out to be my new best friend! Not only did he honor my credit, but he allowed me 3 – 1.5 hour shooting lessons for that credit to prepare me for my CHL. Brian is a fantastic trainer, and he took someone who has no shooting experience, to someone who can shoot accurately with targets, but more importantly has prepared me to be ready and competent «under stress». He helped me find the right gun for me and now we will be bringing our boys, ages 12 and 9, to train with him so that they too will be prepared.
Whatever your level with firearms, if you want to be trained well — this is your man! This is your program!

Just completed my chl renewal class. Ross Bransford is the primary instructor. My 5 hour training requirement was certainly met. The class lasted until 8pm so you should plan on an all day class. As for the class it was really excellent. Mr. Bransford really helps you to realize the intended purpose of the CHL and is not to be a hero. Bottom line it is for your personal and family protection. Not to assume other peoples problems. Runs through several scenarios to get you thinking and helps you understand that verbal judo is your best course of action in most instances. He can be very blunt on the firing line however, firing line officers have no room for mistakes. He brings a very colorful past and life experiences to the training. His history lessons are interesting although a little off on some details. Good class never felt bored! His review is right on and helped to insure solid results. Better than most classes!

Overall it was a good class. If you like history lessons this is the class for you. If you’re sensitive or on a strict time schedule, I’d find a different one. Ross is very blunt and tells lots of stories. While they aid in understanding, they caused my class to run almost an hour after the said end time.

In the great state of Texas, you are legally allowed to carry a firearm on your person almost everywhere, provided you are licensed to do so (with a Concealed Handgun License.)
Shortly after my 21st birthday, I decided to get a CHL, so I shopped around for different classes — and settled on CHL-​Texas.
The license and class were about 300 dollars — and the whole process takes a few weeks to get the necessary paperwork processed.
Ross Bransford, who teaches the class, is an interesting, if somewhat quirky guy — and he made the class very memorable. The class itself was easy — and in about a day, I had completed all the necessary steps to acquire my license… a few weeks later, it arrived!
Ladies… if a 200lbs man attacks you in a dark alley, would you prefer to fight him off with a spritz of mace, or with a dozen full metal jacketed, hollow point bullets?
Being able to carry a handgun on your person means that you are *always* able to defend yourself.
My pockets are a bastion of democracy!
