Carr and Smith Dental

I’m in the dental field myself (hygienist) so I am very picky when it comes to who I trust with my own teeth & my family as well. When you go to see Dr. Smith and his team you will always feel valued and they treat us like family which is hard to find nowadays. Most importantly, his dentistry is excellent. The hygienists are great and always take their time with us. Friendly front desk. Never any billing issues for us. Insurance covers our visits. I truly recommend him to all family and friends.

First of all this for the staff or I should more specifically say Renee who works for Carr and Smith Dental. I had recently changed jobs and needed to find a dentist in Austin as my former is in Temple. On referral from my wife I decided to go to Carr and Smith Dental. My first appointment for a cleaning was in October of 2014, which went well. I scheduled for my six month follow up in April of 2015 and upon leaving the April cleaning, Renee informs me that I owe them money for the October visit and will need to pay soon. I’m thinking to myself, 1) I’ve never had to pay out of pocket for a cleaning because insurance covers it, 2) I never received a statement from my insurance denying my claim, 3) If I owed Carr and Smith for services, why did I not receive a bill and why did it take six months for them to tell me?
So Renee tells me that I need to figure this out with my insurance provider. This was all annoying to me, her attitude and the fact that my work had changed insurance provider for the 2015 year. Anyways I get with my HR, get my old policy number and wait patiently for a half hour to speak to a live representative. Finally I get someone on the phone and explain the situation. They check the records to find that Carr and Smith NEVER SUBMITTED THE CLAIM!
Okay, so I call Renee up and inform her of this and she tells me that she’ll take care of it from there. No apologies or anything and it should be good from there. Remember this is in April.
July comes and there’s something in the mail from Carr and Smith Dental. I open it and what do I find? A PAST DUE BILL, which is from October and of course has almost tripled for «non-​payment»! I immediately get on the phone and who do I get on the other end? You got it, Renee. I asked her what this is all about and she says in a snobby way, that my insurance refused to pay it. I tell her that she billed the WRONG INSURANCE! I had went over this previously with her. I told her that she needed to bill the old insurance, you know the old one on file from 2014, the one that you didn’t bill in the first place? She continued to argue with me about it and finally I couldn’t take it anymore and told her to cancel my upcoming appointment. Which she did and still no apologies. I hung up and got on the phone with my HR to handle the situation, which they did.
What a TERRIBLE experience! I’ll never go back. Not only does Dr. Carr and Dr. Smith lose a patient, they are losing my wife as a patient as well and her friend and husband who referred us from hearing how ridiculous this whole thing was. Poor guys probably won’t even know that they are LOSING FOUR PATIENTS from this debacle. Renee probably won’t even tell them and keep this whole ordeal to herself. Save yourself the trouble.

I came to see Dr. Bryan Smith a few years ago for a second opinion and haven’t looked back. He recommended a much more conservative approach to fixing my damaged filling, and not only did it save me thousands of dollars but the fix has held up just like he said it would. I’ve been thrilled about that.
The staff is really nice and courteous every time I’m in here. Everyone is welcoming, friendly and they do their job extremely well.
We’re self-​employed and haven’t had dental insurance for many years, but going to Dr. Smith’s office isn’t something I dread. Every procedure we’ve encountered, from cleaning to whitening to X-​rays to filling repair, has been more than reasonable and fair. It’s something we most appreciate about this office and the care they offer.

I have been going to Dr. Carr for quite some time. I was referred by my periodontist who was moving to another town. All the staff are wonderful and friendly. I have lots of dental problems and have been fearful of dentists since I was a child. Everyone here puts me at ease. Highly recommend both Dr. Carr and Dr. Smith. My husband and several co-​workers all go here and wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else.

Great experience. Friendly staff and Drs. Carr and Smith are awesome. Very efficient. professional and quality service. I went years and years without going to a dentist and I’ve had to have some serious procedures on account of it. They’ve been great about it and are really making it easy to get things in order and to take proper care of my teeth in the future.
I never have to sit in the waiting room for ages, which is important to me.
Just as a side… Ginny at the front desk is awesome. Kind, friendly and sweet and terrific at her job. She always has me leaving there with a smile on my face.
If you are looking for a dentist and if these guys are near you, give them a try.

I was recommended to Dr. Smith from a friend. Overall a pleasant experience. The tech was super nice, gentle, gave me ideas on better ways to brush my teeth and entertained my 16 month old while the dentist was looking at my teeth. Dr. Smith was personable and nice as well.

I have been seeing Dr. Carr for almost 5 years which is the longest I’ve ever stayed with a dentist. I really appreciate that he has never recommended a particular kind of toothpaste to me, or that I should be washing my mouth out with listerine or a mouth guard like my last dentist. I only had to tell him once that I liked the chip in my front tooth and wasn’t interested in getting it fixed and he never asked about it again unlike a few of my other dentist that thought it was an affront that I didn’t want perfect looking teeth (no I’m not British, but I do think Clive Owen lost some of his charm once he got Hollywood teeth).
If Dr. Carr sees something off, he generally puts a watch on it before asking to do anything with it, so far I have not had to have anything major done. I’m probably even a bit biased about it since Dr. Carr always tells me my teeth are great and whatever I am doing keep doing it. I’ve also really liked his hygienists who have helped me not only brush better, but really taught me how to floss. Since I have been brushing the way Dr. Carr likes, I’ve had no more receding of my gums which was really worrying me.
Dr. Carr can be sort of odd and funny. When he first saw the x-​rays of my root canal from a previous dentist, he left a message on my answering machine that it looked good, but he would have done a better job.
My husband also goes to Dr. Carr. His only complaint is about Dr. Carr’s personality which is for my husband way to cheerful, goofy and talkative. I told him maybe he should see Dr. Carr’s partner Dr. Smith who is a lot more solemn.

Dr. Carr was recommended to me by my old dentist in Indiana before we moved here in 1997. I am not blessed with great teeth and have spent quite a bit of time in Dr. Carr’s chair over the years for new fillings, replacing old amalgam fillings, lost fillings, broken & cracked teeth, several crowns, etc. Dr. Carr has done a good job with all of these. He is also good at «waiting and watching» on potential problems to see if/​how they develop. You can count on him to let you know when you really need to do something ASAP and when you can wait a bit. He is also probably one of the most personable people I’ve ever met.
Dr. Carr’s front desk staff is amazing. Ginny is so sweet and friendly and frighteningly efficient. They do insurance filing for you if you are lucky enough to have it. I don’t think I have ever waited more than 10 minutes for any of my numerous appointments over the years.
The dental hygienists and assistants are capable. There has been little turnover in the last couple of years. They seem to have their system down well and the office flows nicely. They go to some kind of dental seminar as a team each year, which is nice.
Dr. Carr has some movies you can watch if he is going to be in your mouth working for awhile. He likes comedies. I saw «RV» while I was sitting in his chair. I would never have picked it but his recommendation was good: I laughed quite a bit, which is truly an achievement considering the venue.

I have been a consistent, frequent patient of Dr. David W. Carr since 1977 — 30+ years. Without a single exception, on every visit I have been treated with the utmost professional competence and enjoyed the epitome of a sincere, caring bedside manner. Even when I first began seeing Dr. Carr, so many years ago, it was his practice to care about his patients long after they left his office. I cannot count the number of times he called me at home to see how I was feeling after a procedure and if I was having any problems, and he still does. I have phoned him late at night and even on Sundays to get advice or refills on prescriptions. I have never seen Dr. Carr without a smile on his face or genuine compassion in his voice. Beyond that, his entire staff has been equally caring and competent. His office is the most friendly medical office I have ever frequented, and I have frequented many over the years. I have recommended Dr. Carr to dozens of friends and co-​workers over the years and all of them have later thanked me for sending them to such a wonderful dentist. I am not related to Dr. Carr nor connected to him in a business sense. I am just a very grateful life-​long patient.

I went to this dentist for two crowns. After trying to anesthetize the area 5 times, he finally gave up and said that I would have to go under general anesthesia. I’ve since had a very knowledgeable medical school anatomy professor tell me that if a dentist can’t hit your mandibular nerve in two tries, leave the office since that means that he is incompetent. Carr actually told me that it was my «faulty blood chemistry» that was rejecting the anesthesia… that I was «too acidic.» This was all traumatic and horrible and made worse by his mean staff. I couldn’t have been treated worse. The staff are all the most miserable hags.
Carr referred me to another dentist who works out of his office (Dr. Ersick… who actually owned the business before Carr bought it) and this dentist was able to anesthetize me and complete the crowns perfectly.
