History

Established in 1989.

Card Traders of Austin originally opened in 1992, and for the last 18 years we have provided, what we feel, is the best service in Austin for collectors of all ages. The current ownership took over the store in 1996 and has overseen the growth of Card Traders of Austin into the premier hobby store in central Texas. As one of the owners of Card Traders of Austin, I been working in the industry since 1995 and I am committed to providing exceptional customer service for everyone who comes to my shop. Prior to part owning Card Traders of Austin, I previously owned my own business and learned a lot about all facets of the hobby industry over the last 18 years. I enjoy helping folks find what they seek, whether it is that $ 1,000 card to finish their 1959 Topps Set, or it is that 10 cent common from Magic they need to complete their play set, me and my team are here to help you.

An old mainstay from my days of Pokemon and Magic cards. This place is my go-​to for any sports gift around Christmas time. Called them today asking for a bit of a niche gift for a coworker. They said they didn’t have it but would check with their supplier and call me back. I got a call a half hour later with everything in order. The price included shipping and was comparable to online stores (In fact cheaper than most of them)
But for real. Can’t recommend these guys enough. Great neighborhood fixture.

Stopped by the store while on a business trip from L.A. Spent time going through their vintage boxes so I could complete some older sets. Walt, Bob and the other gentleman were as kind and nice as could be. And their pricing was a better than I usually get on-​line, so that was a nice bonus — not retail! It was also helpful to have such a nice selection of vintage cards in number order. Thanks for a great experience.

This card shop is tucked away next to some of the best food in town. I’m not saying it makes the store any better, but it does make it convenient to visit during lunch time.
The clerks are always very helpful and knowledgeable if you have questions. The product is priced fairly.
I’ve been there to play Magic the Gathering a few times and it was quite pleasant. The shop isn’t huge so the setting is more intimate than most other shops, but in a good way. If you have a card you’re looking for give them a chance.

The owner is extremely nice and friendly. He told me how the baseball card hobby has changed, and which time periods are the most valuable. Their selection of packs, individual cards, supplies is great. It was fun to see the store and talk with the owner.

Nice folks and lots and lots of baseball cards, from timely to vintage. It looks like Magic: The Gathering pays the bills, but love the baseball cards, and The Boy loves them even more. I especially liked the collection of «Bob» Clemente and Pete Rose classic cards. When I hit the lottery, I’ll drop some coin on those.

They have about 10 boxes, each with of hundreds of Yugioh cards. All organized by rarity, prices here are way cheaper than amazon or eBay. Pull up a chair and start searching. Commons cost 10 cents and rares start at 1 buck. Whatever the price on the sticker is, it’s actually only a third of the listed price.

I love this store. I’ve only been here a few times but the staff makes you feel like a regular. They are very reasonable on price and are extremely helpful. I wish they had classic Boxing cards but still a top notch store.

This review is specifically in reference to their Magic singles. I can not comment on any other aspect of the business.
Please do not sell you Magic singles to this shop. They are stuck in a very 90’s style of pricing and will only offer you 50% of their sell price as in store credit. If you want cash they will only offer you 25% of their sell price. Oh and they are VERY slow to update those prices.

Card Traders is a very nice store and an excellent setting for new and old collectors as well as parents and kids. Or people like me who are very big 10 year olds. They have a nice stock of new products as well as single cards. I would’ve given them 5⁄5 except they try and sell autographed cards that have significant damage from UV fading.
The guys who work in the shop are never shy to have a conversation with anyone who walks in and in some cases I have seen them at UT baseball games and we start up right where we left off. If you’re going to buy some cards in Austin, Card Traders is the way to go.

Card Traders of Austin is one of the three sports card shops still in Austin (the other two being Austin Sports Connection and Kenny’s Collectibles).
They specialize in sports cards and memorabilia, and out of the three shops in Austin, they probably have the most extensive collection of pre-​1980s cards of anyone in town. I’ve talked to the owner a number of times and he has an eye for the quirky and obscure, so you may see some fairly interesting stuff within the glass cases.
However, if you’re also looking for the latest releases by Topps and Upper Deck, they have you covered. Cards supplies (e.g. penny sleeves, top loaders, etc.) is another strong point.
Now, the prices here aren’t always the cheapest, but as far as having the best feel of the 1980s baseball card shop you grew up with, this is hands down the winner. In fact, on Saturdays the place is often jammed with 30 and 40-​something guys trying to relive their youth.
