Break it Down was founded in 2009 by husband and wife duo Jeff Paine and Melanie MacFarlane. What began as a recognition that there were no composting services available for local businesses has grown to include the most comprehensive recycling and composting service in town.

Business Owner

Jeff Paine holds a BA in Physics from Carleton College, an MS in Earth Sciences from Berkeley, and an MSE in Chemical Engineering from UT-​Austin. He continues to connect his work more and more directly with sustainability issues at a local level, both to address environmental concerns and, increasingly, social issues.
