BOM Club UYE #6: P. Terry’s

P. Terry’s was the site of the sixth iteration of Austin Unilocal’s Burger Of the Month Club for February 2015. In the newly touted world of «never ever» beef (never frozen vegetarian fed beef, free of additives, preservatives, antibiotics, hormones, etc.), local institution P Terry’s has led the charge here in Austin. Their 1,000+ reviews across their nine Austin locations is pretty impressive for an inexpensive «fast-​food» joint.
There was no trouble with parking this time. Thanks to early arrivers Catherine T. and Phillip B. for wrangling up some tables for us. We even added a couple later to accomodate, which was impressive given that there was sleet in the area just before the 1pm meeting time.
I’ll let my P. Terry’s review stand for itself for the food here. I always recommend adding the diced jalapenos for the steep cost of twenty cents, and the grilled onion for free. And the lower part of my bun did have some structural issues, as it sometimes does. The fries could have been crispier, but at least they were tasty. Kinda the opposite of what you get at «the Cali chain that shall not be named». But the shakes and cookies seemed quite popular, as were the salt and pepper shakers on each table which could be used as a children’s art project.

I’ve had BOM on my radar for a few months and I finally made the decision to exit my cave of reclusiveness and drop by an event!
I’ve never had P. Terry’s (I’m not that frequent of a burger eater… Surprisingly) but I was excited to try with a group of cool Unilocalers. I was also excited to limp around in the icy slick roads after leg day but that’s neither here nor there.
It was a great event as I got to see some old friends and meet some great new people (Chris B. And fam, Tracey S., Sarah M., Vanessa B., and Rachel and Steven B.). I’ve met Philip and Catherine before but I’m sure meeting blonde me was like meeting a brand new person! :)
I won’t lie, the prices were more than reasonable. Angie L mocked my large milkshake with a medium soft drink but even my Double/​Double combo with that added large milkshake was still cheaper than my burger alone at Big Daddy’s. The important thing was that the burger was tasty and that’s all that matters: good food and good company.
I had a great time and want to thank Joe C for creating and setting up the event page. I’ll see everyone next time!

Perhaps the most controversial BOM Club choice turned out to be a pretty popular one! P Terry’s was more than accommodating and we had plenty of room for everyone. We had a good turnout and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. It just goes to show, it doesn’t really matter where you hold the BOM Club, we will always show up and have a good time!

When a lady exiting the drive-​thru gets a horrid look on her face because she peered inside and caught Phillip chugging a tiny bottle of Fireball, you know we had a great time.
Oh, and they’ve got pretty tasty burgers, too.
