Specialties
The Big Brothers Big Sisters Mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
This year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas volunteers will provide 90,000 hours of mentoring to 1,500 Little Brothers and Sisters; the value of this time is nearly $ 2 million! Even more impressively, last year more than 97 percent of Central Texas Little Brothers and Sisters stayed in school, improved their grades and avoided early parenting.
History
Established in 1971.
The Central Texas agency was founded in 1971 which means 2011 was our 40th anniversary!
For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers («Bigs») and children («Littles»), ages 6 through 16, in communities across the country. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.
