Bed & Biscuit Kennel

I’m writing this on the couch in my abnormally quiet home with a glass of wine in my hand and a usually hyperactive 1 ½-​year-​old yorkie napping away next to me.
Sending my pup to Bed & Biscuit has always been a wonderful experience! While we initially chose this kennel for boarding because it’s a quick drive from our home, I can’t imagine taking her anywhere else now. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and my yorkie is always thrilled to see them and play with other pups during the day.
The hours are fantastic and leave us with enough time to drive back into town on a Sunday to pick up our dog when we’re gone for a night on the weekend – whereas we’d have to wait an extra day to pick her up when boarding at the vet. For puppy daycare, I’m able to drop her off early enough and pick her up late enough that I have a couple guilt-​free hours to run errands and clean house without a puppy at my heels begging to play fetch.

Updated to add: Sadly, we can no longer use Bed and Biscuit. The new owners have a policy requiring an «evaluation day» for dogs who haven’t been there in over a year, even if the same dog has had many lengthy and successful stays there in the past. I still have every one of my dog’s «report cards» going into detail about how our dog is the coolest, he’s so chill and well-​behaved, they never want him to leave, etc… but now apparently he has to be «evaluated.» This is a dog who used to stand up and run tiny circles in the back of the car as soon as he saw the highway exit for Bed and Biscuit, he was so excited and loved it so much. It’s a stretch for us to pay for boarding (which is why it took us over a year to make another reservation). We had a little extra money for our vacation this year and really, really wanted to splurge, but the added round trip from Kyle is just more time than we can realistically afford. I’m feeling legitimately emotional losing access to such a great place, and I know our dog will be sad too.

I can’t figure out whether the Bed & Biscuit staff loves our dog more, or whether he loves them more. They’ve removed any guilt we had from leaving our dog at home when we travel.

Our 2 beagle mix girls have never spent time in a real doggy daycare or boarding kennel before until we tried this place 8 months ago. Our girls are now daycare regulars going 2 – 3 days a week, and we have boarded them on weekends 2 – 3 times as well. We’re lucky in that they are only 5 min drive from us and their hours for daycare drop-​off at 7:30am and pick-​up until 7pm is very convenient. During daycare they get to go out about 3 – 4 times a day for 15 – 20 minutes and get to hangout with other dogs. We’ve had great customer service from them so far in the past 8 months since we started! They have a nice variety of affordable (about 25−30% less than prices downtown in comparison) packages for daycare and boarding options that reward you for loyal regular. When you board your dogs, they also offer extra cuddle and play time with them and text you updates on how they are doing while you’re gone. The staff and the owner have always been very accommodating and helpful, and the best part is that our girls always seem to be so happy while they’re there which is the main thing I care about.

My wife and I have lived all over the south east and have used many different boarding places in all the places we have lived, and Bed and Biscuit is by far the best boarding facility. We have an older lab and a smaller rescue (Alaskan Klee Kai) who was abused before we rescued him, so he’s very scared of new places or new people. After only a few visits, we noticed that he now gets excited when we arrive to drop them off at Bed and Biscuit. The staff members are amazing and always very nice and accommodating. We really loved their requirement that you leave your dog for a half day (at no charge) so they can observe the dog’s behavior and note any issues so that they are not a problem when the dog is boarded. We have unfortunately moved from the Austin area and we wish we could take Bed and Biscuit with us to our new location. We highly recommend Bed and Biscuit to anyone looking for a boarding facility where your dogs are loved as if they were at home.

I am an overprotective dog owner, so when it comes to finding a place to leave my basset, Jubilee, it is a tough job. The times I have been to Bed & a Biscuit have been wonderful. The staff makes scheduling easy and welcomes both of us when we arrive. All of the love and attention Jubilee receives at the door helps put her at ease. The text updates are wonderful for my peace of mind and I think the staff seems very proactive about ensuring that my dog is receiving the kind of care that meets my expectations. They always write in details and are very organized when I check in which seems a bit above and beyond compared to other places in Austin. Jubilee is always exhausted after her stay, but content at the same time. It is hard to leave her, but when I do I feel confident she is getting good care while I am away. Glad to have this facility in town!

I boarded my almost 12 year old beagle, Gus, for a couple of days. The staff and everyone at B&B were very nice, and even sent me pics of how he was doing.
I’d recommend Bed & Biscuit to anyone needing a great «home away from home» for their dog!

These folks are great! Our old dog was having trouble when we were out of town and they went beyond the normal care to excellent care. They are the best!

I read the mixed reviews here, but because of the convenience of this kennel to where I live, and because I needed one pronto (family members who usually watch my dog overnight couldn’t this trip), I took my dog here. First, they required a day of daycare to get him acclimated. It was free and seemed like a good idea. But when I picked him up, I was told by the owner that they were on the fence about letting him return. I have boarded this 7-​year old dog many, many times and he currently goes to daycare three days a week!!! (At Austin Canine Central. LOVE THEM — but they don’t board). Like many dogs, mine has his quirks, including issues with some men, but any pro can and has handled them, as long as they take the time. Against my better judgement, I did board him there. He did okay, although I got another long story when I picked him up about difficulties some staff had with him.
But the icing on this bitter cake was his bordatella vaccine. They require that dogs get one every six months, and I don’t mind that at all; better safe then sorry. They offered to give him one, as it had been almost a year, at the kennel on the trial daycare day, but said he was too hard to handle to do it. So I took him to my vet the next day and he got it – no problem. When I dropped him off to be boarded, I gave the staff member a copy of his vaccination record. Several hours later, my flight touches down and I have a message from them asking me why I did not get him the vaccine! I called and explained that I had and that they had the paperwork, which she admitted they must have misplaced. Oh, but the story doesn’t end there. When I picked him up, I had a charge for a bordatella vaccine on my bill!!! Seriously??? Get it together, Bed & Biscuit. She did remove the charge, but…
Needless to say, I won’t be going back.

We love this place, but more importantly our 2 dogs love it too! The whining starts as soon as we turn onto City Park Road. Once inside, both of my dogs leap up on the gate as if they could not get back to visit the staff fast enough. We receive texts containing pictures and updates throughout their stay.
A great place that treats your pets like one of their own.

Brixton, my one year old toy poodle, has been going to day care here for the past few months and he seems to really love it. He gets so excited when we walk in the building and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The prices are about average, maybe a little above, but it’s on my way to work so it’s not a huge deal. I always appreciate when they have pictures or video of him playing with the other pups when I get there to pick him up, it always seems like he had a lot of fun and is totally worn out. I haven’t boarded him yet, but this would be the only place I would take him.

Lucky, our Goldendoodle loves bed & biscuit & so do we! They take great care of him & he gets so excited to come. The evaluation is peace of mind. Lucky has a little anxiety & I would have been worried about him if I dropped him off at a strange place without knowing he would be comfortable.
Bed & biscuit also knows lucky likes to be around other dogs so when he stays overnight, they pair him with a suitable kennel mate!
I also highly recommend Amber for training as well. Lucky has a lot of energy & is distracted very easily. Amber is teaching us how to keep him focused in any situation. We are really enjoying him so much more now that we are ridding him of bad habits like jumping & chasing deer. Now he stays by our side & waits for our direction. I love the improvements in our good boy. Thank you, Amber!

I’ve taken my 2 nine month old Lab puppies to Bed & Biscuit many times since I’ve had them over the last 6 months and overall have had nothing but good experiences. I have a reasonable expectation that my dogs are safe and well taken care of after I drop them off. Bed & Biscuit did not live up to this expectation yesterday and as a result I would not recommend them again.
I received a call yesterday around noon from one of the staff members explaining that one of my dogs had injured her foot in the kennel. I asked a few questions and was assured that they had no idea how it happened and that there were no markings on her foot, but that she couldn’t put any weight on it at all. They said that sometime between the morning and mid afternoon outside playtime she hurt her foot in the kennel.
I called my vet, made an appointment and went and picked her up. They were right that she couldn’t put any weight on her foot at all, she was basically a three legged dog at that point. I had to carry her to my car and the first thing I noticed was a bare spot and dried blood on the injured leg (about the size of a dime) where the hair had been rubbed off. According to Bed & Biscuit though, there were no visible injuries on her at all.
I took her to the vet and had her checked out. One hour, an x-​ray and $ 250 later we were sent home with the hope that she will get better. There were no broken bones, but there’s major ligament damage (in my vet’s opinion) that should heal on it’s own over the next few weeks.
It looks like my dog stood up on her hind legs and got her foot caught in the bars on the door of the kennel. She couldn’t get her foot out and as she struggled to get free rubbed the hair off her leg and damaged the ligaments in her foot. They showed me the kennel they had her in and I was very surprised at the size of the spaces between the bars on each kennel. I can easily see now how this would happen. If you have a larger dog, you should be concerned too.
Bed & Biscuit doesn’t have anyone inside the actual kennel full time (nor did I see a camera) so while my dog had her leg stuck in the door and struggled to free herself, the Bed & Biscuit staff was doing other things. The staff did seem genuinely concerned when I went back to pick up my other dog and asked if they could give my information to the owner.
This is only one bad experience over many stays, but after closer inspection of where my dogs actually stay when they are there, the level of attention and care by the Bed & Biscuit staff, I won’t be going back. Clearly my dogs are not safe there.

I looked this kennel up because it is close to my house and I am getting ready to take several trips and was looking for a place that my dog would not be sitting in a crate 90% of every day I was gone. Typically I take him to my vet and overall no issues, but really he’s a part of my family and I wanted to be in a more comfortable environment.
When I read through their website they boasted about how they maximize calmness to make your pet’s stay as calm and comforting as possible. I set up and evaluation to take my pet in this morning. Now I will preface to say my dog does get anxious and has separation anxiety when taken to kennels as a lot of other dogs do.
When I arrived and met the «behavioralist» I was quite frankly turned off by her attitude. I explained to her my dog was currently seeing a trainer and she scoffed at my trainers tactics. Just in observing my dog’s excitement during the interview she already informed me of her doubt my dog would do well there. Hmm, I thought she specialized in dog anxiety and the reason I was there was to make it a comfortable experience. She then took me on a tour and showed me the quiet room, which to me seemed to be more of a time out room and said they had a very calm environment and I would notice as I walked into the kennel the dogs there don’t bark… ok as soon as the first dog saw us it began barking and all of the other dogs followed suit and none of them stopped even after we walked out. It was quite deafening actually and there were only a few dogs. I asked about their capacity and she said 90 dogs so I can only imagine the noise. Their sound proof barriers didn’t seem to be doing much of anything and this noise alone would make any dog anxious.
As we were walking out she advised that if they felt my dog couldn’t get comfortable they would need me to leave my job to come back and pick him up. I almost grabbed my dog’s leash and left, but was already running late. My dog has been in a kennel several times and yes, he will be unsettled at first so I knew it would take him a bit to get acclimated, but to my surprise I received a very condescending call only two hours later stating they had given it two hours and my dog just couldn’t seem to get «comfortable» and I needed to come pick me up.
When I got there the behavioralist advised that though he wasn’t ready to stay there yet she could offer her services to get him to a place where he was calm enough to come back for what I sure would be a hefty fee. To top it off after I got their they actually tried to charge me for a full day of doggie daycare, which I simply refused to pay.
After leaving and reading the other reviews I am certainly glad my dog didn’t fit into this pretentious environment. Dogs are dogs. No dog likes being locked up in a kennel away from their family, plain and simple.
Good luck to those that have a good experience. I woulnd’t subject my dog there.

We started kenneling our dog here when we go out of town after our normally energetic puppy came back from a 3 day stay at the vet’s kennel all shell shocked and lethargic. I was pretty worried about it, because we’re sort of obsessed with our dog, but after several stays he’s always come home just as happy as when we dropped him off. I like how they’ve started giving out little report cards on how he did and who he played with! The staff is all really friendly and I feel like they’re taking good care of my lil man! The only reason I’m not quite at 5 stars is because whenever we pick him up he pees for like, 3 straight minutes (TMI?) and I wonder how often they let him out. Or maybe that’s just his weird way of celebrating our arrival… I wouldn’t put that passed him.

If you’re looking for a home away from home for your pet this place works.
Friendly staff and really cozy atmosphere! They don’t always answer the phone but they’re great about returning phone calls if you leave a message.
My 1 year old boxer loves it there and always comes out in great spirits!

We had 2 experiences here and overall it seemed fine. Staff was nice, I didn’t go on a tour so can’t comment on the back area but expect it to be individual kennels for each dog.
I’d prefer my dog to have more exercise and be free to roam with other dogs all day but this is not the facility if that is what you want. B&B is a kennel and your dog will be in a room for the majority of the day; I was told with three 15 minute breaks plus any additional play time at $ 5 a pop (which for 15 minutes is fine for me).
The only concern I have is when they let the dogs out. My lab is super-​potty trained. And I mean she goes on command plus can hold it for 12 hours easily; 14+ in a pinch (and as for longer due to circumstance).
In Nov after our trip when I picked her up at 8am my dog came out at went No. 1 out front. A lot. Like a gushing flow of pee for a long time. At the time I thought, odd but nothing more. After our Dec trip when I picked her up she had had an accident on her bed. Mind you when my dog gets sick she always throws up on her own bed so she likes to keep her mess to herself. They offered to wash it but I didn’t want to drive back for it so took it home. She went No 1 and No 2 on it. This was at 7:45am when we picked her up and her normal morning routine is 6:45 on weekdays; 7:15am on weekends, so not out of her norm. For her to go both potties on her bed means either A) B&B waits way too long between letting the dogs out (or just mine) or B) Something upset my dog and she skipped going potty the night before and couldn’t hold it any longer.
One thing about my dog is every once and a while she fakes going potty to come back inside — but only if it raining. Which is was not. I’m guessing something else was upsetting her — but what? She was a little less than enthusiastic about going in on the second trip. But seriously the staff seemed very nice. Not sure what it was. My dog is super friendly and not usually sensitive.
We’ll probably come here again. I mean really in the big picture it’s a dog pooping her bed. Not the end of the world. Just noticed and will watch out for any issues next time.

I’ve been boarding my 2 year old chocolate lab since moving to Austin.
Rudy (my dog) is always excited to go in and always leaves looking like he’s been on a vacation. The dogs are taken outside to play (in the shade) at least 2 hours a day and if your pooch needs extra attention, they offer additional outside playtime or couch time for reasonable rates.
I usually have Rudy bathed the day I pick him up and they do a great job getting all the extra hair out of his coat. His coat shines, he smells good and he doesn’t seem to shed for days after.
I never worry about Rudy while he is there — I know he is having a great time.

I’ve taken Roma to several places around Austin, and have been generally satisfied. I can’t tell the difference in the service between them at all.
Roma however, has a completely different perspective, and loves this place. She gets very excited when she goes to school, and comes back pretty worn out. She’s gone for the day, as well as stayed for vacation.
They are an incredible value, and have a great location. I’ve moved quite a way away, but have since decided that Roma is worth the trip back.

I’ve been meaning to update my review regarding the lost dog bed. It’s embarrassing. We never took it in. Several days later, I found it in the back of my car. No one ever rides in my back seat and when I had things to place back there, I found it sitting on the seat just winking at me. Immediate upgrade to 5 stars!
Cinnamon goes again today and will be there for 10 days and nights. She is very excited and is looking forward to the three daily meet-​ups with her pup friends again.
