History

Established in 2005.

Kathy and the Barbeque Mercantile store have been featured in Chili Pepper and Hearth and Home magazines and provided wood and charcoal to Steve Raichlen and Barbecue University®, hosted at The Broadmoor Hotel. Steve complimented Barbeque Mercantile as one of, if not the best barbecue supply store he has seen. Even with all the success, Kathy decided to come home and return to Texas and bring her store with her. «The excitement of Austin and the great Texas barbecue was just too much to resist,» she says. Kathy invites you to share in her passion for outdoor cooking at her store.

Kathy B.

Business Owner

Born in West Texas, Kathy grew up with a true sense of what it means to be a Texan with a devotion to high school football and a love affair for barbecue. As a small child, Kathy fondly remembers her father, Grover, coming home from work and firing up the grill in their backyard, while her mother, Margaret, would prepare side dishes in the kitchen. Hot dogs, burgers, or steaks it didn’t matter because grilling always made supper extra special. Kathy also remembers family trips to Lubbock which included visits to local barbecue joints.

Later on Kathy moved to Colorado where she tripped over a pellet grill and she never looked back. It was versatile, easy to use, and made food taste amazing. Eventually, her passion moved her away from her corporate career and she opened Barbeque Mercantile in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2005. Word of mouth spread quickly and in 2006 the Colorado Springs Gazette Newspaper readers voted Barbeque Mercantile «The Best BBQ Supply Store.»
