Auto Techs

My service engine light came on on my 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport recently. I had my local Advance Auto Parts store check the code for me (free service at any Advance Store FYI) and they said it was one of my O2 sensors.
I called the Auto Techs that recently opened on RR 620 to schedule an appointment and brought it in this morning shortly after they opened at 7am. Jacob wrote me up, gave me a ride home and at about 9:45 am he called to inform me that they completed the diagnostic scan and it was indeed a faulty O2 sensor.
At about 11:40 am Jacob called to let me know my car was ready, he came and picked me up and I was back home before noon.
These guys are honest, polite, provide great service and are reasonably priced. Glad to know I have a reputable auto shop within a few minutes of my home.

My Honda Accord had been having power steering problems for over a year, and I could not put off fixing it anymore as it was leaking fluid all over my garage floor.
I’d taken the car into a couple other repair shops (and First Texas Honda) because of the noise it made, and they all told me I needed a new power steering pump, with quotes ranging from $ 3 – 400 to $ 1100. That’s why I’d procrastinated.
Because of positive Unilocal reviews, I first called Austin Auto Techs Arboretum location, and they informed me there was a location right by my house, so I hoped for the best and hurried on over.
I was greeted by Omar, who reassured me they’d check it out and let me know an estimate for what needed to be done as soon as possible.
About an hour later Omar called me back to say that I didn’t need a new pump, it was just an O-​ring that was notorious in Hondas for failure, which created the air sucking that caused the horrible whining noise whenever my car was cold.
The quote to replace the offending suction hose and O-​ring? …$ 80 labor.
Sold!
He then asked if I’d ever changed my A/​C cabin filter. Hell no, who ever listens when mechanics tell you to change that?
«Well», he said, «it’s pretty bad.»
After he’d saved me so much on the power steering, I figured if it was less than $ 50 to replace, why not. The quote for the filter? .$ 45. Bam. Do it.
I then listed other problems that were less pressing or that other shops had told me I needed done, so he checked them out too. I learned more about what really needed to be done, and how much it would cost down the road.
My ass was back in the car seat about 4.5 hours after I brought it in with no appointment, and was saved hundreds of dollars in the process. (The total bill was $ 139!)
It should also be noted that both techs I spoke with were friendly, and didn’t talk to me like I was a friggin idiot.
We all know it’s hard to trust mechanics, but you best believe I’m headed back to Austin Auto Techs 620 the next time I need work done. Thanks guys!

I deliver pizza for a living, so finding a trustworthy car maintenance shop is absolutely crucial for my job, my wallet, and my sanity. I tried more than 10 shops in the Northwest area (really) before I found Auto Techs, but I haven’t been anywhere else since.
Every one of my experiences here has been top notch. Their staff is always friendly, their work is always of the highest quality, and their advice has saved me thousands of dollars. To top it all off, all of their repairs come with a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. Even at shops that charge an arm and a leg you won’t find a crew that stands behind their work like the crew at Auto Techs does.
I could not be more satisfied with this company. I’ll be using their services exclusively for as long as I live in Austin.

I took my ’95 Bronco over to Auto Techs recently and had a great experience. I had blown a gasket a day before a spring break camping trip with my family, and needed the Bronco to haul gear and firewood. The original estimate had them finishing up work after two or three days, but the next day it was ready. Our camping trip was saved. The kids were happy, and I got to spend some time fishing. The work was thorough, and complete. They even called to ask about replacing common parts while they had it apart. So in went a new water pump and just the cost of the part, no extra labor. On this old truck they probably just saved me a lot of hassle. I’ll be going back for my next repair. If they are as good next time as they were this time, I’ll change the rating to five stars. I’ve brought my 10 year old Dodge truck to Auto Techs for a number of repairs this year. I learned about them through reviews on Unilocal for their other location. This location on 620 opened in the last year or two. I stopped going to the nearby Dodge dealership after comparing cost of repairs with these guys via phone quotes a few times. One immediate difference I noticed is that the Auto Techs staff is very attentive and I nearly always get a technician to talk to me on my first attempt for a phone quote or I always get a prompt call back. I had the Dodge dealership take a day to call me back or forget to call me back with a quote all together. While the pricing is comparable to the Dodge dealership I have been able to get 10% discounts using my Unilocal check-​in feature. For repairs on a 10 year old truck that 10% can add up to real money.
They are convenient to both my house and work. It is super convenient that they offer courtesy rides to my home or office when I drop off the truck. The manager at this location, Omar, is real gentlemen. We are on a first name basis after 3 repairs and he has always been helpful and informative in discussing my truck’s repair needs. He’s rode around in the truck with me several times in an effort to pinpoint one of those sounds my truck makes everywhere except at the mechanic shop. I’ve always got my repairs completed same day in large part because Omar executes great follow through by calling me more than once if necessary to get a decision about ordering a part or moving forward with a repair. Plus he makes sure I get to the office on time when I drop off my vehicle.
Going to an auto repair shop ain’t exactly my favorite thing to do but Auto Techs certainly makes it less painful than some of the other shops out there.
