Dr. Shaw and his staff are great. They do what they can to help. I got frustrated with the problems I am having and took it out on them and was a jerk, yet they have still been really awesome. Highly recommended.

I live and work overseas — I was able to coordinate and arrange via e-​mail my examination and subsequent TURP surgery for my enlarged prostate. Doctor Shaw and his (very professional staff) knew what information was required and had me fill in the patient history online. The result was when I got to Austin everything flowed smoothly and I was able to get the exam and subsequent surgery done and be back to my job overseas in the shortest time possible. Doctor Shaw is impressive and his staff know their business and are very professional.
A tip for guys out there who have been dealing with an enlarged prostate for years and getting by on medication to just «get by» — have this procedure done! It was like night and day from the first day of the surgery and I am now kicking myself that I did not do this years ago.
Doctor Shaw and his staff made the whole thing (including surgery) almost a pleasant experience! The surgery was a huge anticlimax (no pain at all!!) and the results were fantastic!
It was fantastic (and very easy) to be able to coordinate everything while being overseas. So the day I walked into his offices my issues were known and things proceeded like clock-​work.
I HIGHLY recommend Doctor Shaw and his staff! (Any guys overseas needing to get something like the prostate taken care of when in the States — Dr. Shaw is your ticket.)

I really like Dr. Shaw. He seems like a very caring person and is very intelligent and experienced. I saw him on my initial visit and was seen quickly and given very professional care. I was given a diagnosis of my problem and given drug samples to try for a few weeks and then return for a follow-​up visit. I arrived 15 minutes early for my visit and was taken back to the exam room at 5 minutes past my appointment time. That is where the problem began. After seeing a nurse to take my vital signs and ask me a few questions, the door was closed and 45 minutes later no one had opened the door to see if I was there and the doctor had certainly not come in. I opened the door so they would see that I was still there and after a while the doctor passed by on his way elsewhere and looked at me as if he was unaware that anyone was in that room. He said that they would be with me soon and started to leave when I told him that I had been in that room 45 minutes and he said his assistant could start with me. I agreed and 5 minutes later still no one had come in to see me. So, I walked out, passing by the receptionist’s desk and told them I was leaving. They kept my $ 25 copay so I guess that paid for me to wait in the back for almost an hour without being seen by the doctor.
I have read other reviews by patients who have experienced this same problem. I wonder if doctors in general practice overbooking their patients so they have more than they can handle in the time allowed OR if health care has become so «organized» that it is more a business than a caring practice? Dr. Shaw seems like a great man and I really enjoyed meeting him the first time I was there and was very impressed by him. He needs to examine his practices of patient care, however, and allow enough time in his schedule to actually see his patients in a reasonable amount of time rather than making them wait so long that they experience emotional distress because of the lengthy waiting time.

I recommend Dr. Shaw, 1^st visit, new patient, hardly had to wait. Attention to detail, caring and concerned attitude, friendly hardworking staff, among list of reasons why I will be back and entrust to others.

I first met Dr. Shaw while seeking a second opinion after my urologist recommended the TURP procedure. Dr. Shaw concurred that surgery was necessary.
Shaw patiently answered each question that my wife and I had without ever coming across as patronizing. His manner was warm and open and it seemed more like having a conversation with a friend. Given the seriousness of the surgery it felt great to have our questions answered so confidently and in layman’s terms.
Shaw’s PA Aneesa as well as every member of the office staff I met was communicative and professional.
I decided that day that I would escalate my surgery and I wanted Dr. Shaw to perform it.
Less than a month later I had the surgery at Arise Medical Center.
Recovery was steady and uneventful and my aftercare meetings with Shaw and his staff have been great.
While no one wants to have surgery, mine has been a positive experience with a positive outcome. I have felt well cared for by Dr. Shaw and his team and would not hesitate to recommend them for this or any other urological procedure.

I’m really happy with the outcome of my varicocele correction, even though it was a long process. The problem is pretty much 100% fixed for the time being and I feel lucky to have Dr. Shaw as my urologist. I would recommend him to anybody.

I never got the chance to meet Dr. Shaw even though I specifically requested that he see me. Instead I was seen by Aneesa, his P.A. and my experience with her was not a good one. I’ve had chronic pain in my kidney area since July and was referred to AUI by my general physician for exploratory work. He believed I could possibly have stones in my bladder missed by the CT scan. After peeing in a container, Aneesa said I no longer had blood in my urine and that my infection was possibly all cleared up and that my pain was probably muscle/​skeletal related. Although she did review my CT scans with me and said there were no signs of stones, I felt she quickly dismissed all my concerns and seemed very condescending in her replies to each. She didn’t even bother to physically exam me in any way. My doctor referred me so that they could do further work on me and yet, just because I no longer had blood in my urine, she didn’t see the need to do any further testing on me even though I am still in considerable pain and have been for the past two months. She said she was going to refer me to a back specialist, however, when the nurse checked me out, I never received any referral information. Both my husband and I took time off from work for nothing. The whole visit was a waste of time.
My horror didn’t end there though. When I checked out, I was told I owed an additional $ 173.00 not covered by my insurance after paying my $ 25.00 co-​pay. Granted it may be an insurance issue, but $ 173.00? For what? $ 173.00 to talk to me for ten minutes and have me pee in a container and tell me that she doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with me without so much as touching me? And I’m suppose to come back in three weeks. For what? If she doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with me (urology wise), why do I need to come back in three weeks? So I can be charged another $ 25.00 co-​pay, plus another $ 173.00? I think not. I will never be returning to this office again.

To my astonishing surprise I did receive a message from Dr. Shaw, himself. He was very apologetic and expressed disappointment that I was less than satisfied after leaving his office. He agreed to personally see me himself and do a thoroughly review all my medical info, scan and complaints. I do feel better that HE does in fact care about the quality of care his office gives to his patients. As for going back and taking him up on his offer, I’m not sure yet. I was really emotionally traumatized and let down. The toll of the constant continual pain and disappointment of feeling so casually dismissed without a physical examination has left me very «doctor shy» and hopeless about my situation. But as I stated, my review was never on Dr. Shaw, but on his P.A. He apparently has a much different and better approach to dealing with his patients. There may still be hope for me. And since I am still in pain, I am leaning on taking him up on his offer.

With 2 babies under 2, my husband and I decided that to save our sanity, we reached our max and it was time to get him snipped. Being the good wife that I am, I did a bunch of research to make sure his jewels were in good hands… that’s when I came across Dr. Shaw. I actually found almost 150 awesome reviews on ZocDoc and booked his appointment for a consultation on there, which was super easy and convenient considering that it is tough to find time during the day to call and make appointments.
We were pleasantly surprised when my husband got word from Dr. Shaw’s office that they would also be able to perform the procedure at the consultation. Perfect, no need to miss more work! They emailed a really detailed and helpful welcome packet that thoroughly explained what to expect. They called in 2 prescriptions for him to pick up prior to the procedure — something to take the edge off and a NSAID to help with post-​op discomfort.
We arrived at his absolutely BEAUTIFUL office, was greeted warmly and brought back promptly. The assistant who showed us to our treatment room and took his blood pressure was so sweet and cheery! The physician’s assistant came in and explained the procedure (using a 3D model) and post-​op instructions. She explained everything so well (even though we knew most of it from the extremely detailed welcome packet).
Then comes in Dr. Shaw and he is AWESOME. He has a great personality, bedside manner, and is still very professional. Not going to lie, we wouldn’t mind being his best friends — he is THAT personable. Once started, the procedure went very quick. Upon finishing, we got a lovely cooler bag, ice pack and water bottle compliments of Dr. Shaw and Austin Urology Institute. Fancy!
We were seriously in and out of the office in 1 hour. Wow! What?! In and out of an appointment WITH a surgery in 1 hour (and we didn’t feel rushed!). Pretty amazing.
The final cost was very, very reasonable. It was cheaper than a year’s worth of birth control and certainly cheaper than another little babe! My husband is the first of our friends to get a vasectomy but you can bet we will be referring all of our friends to him when that time comes.

Dr. Shaw had great bedside manner and put me at ease through a procedure that had me pretty nervous beforehand. The whole vasectomy took just a few minutes and they kept my discomfort at an absolute minimum. Really nice job.
We live overseas and I flew back to get this done with Dr. Shaw just based on his reviews and feedback from others i know. I’m not disappointed.

Great Doctors are often too busy to make time for you. On my first visit, I was told Dr. Shaw was still in surgery, I understand that and I don’t consider my life to be in danger and was taken care of by a nice Doc on staff. On my follow up appointment I waited about 45 min past my appointment time and was again greeted by the Doc on staff not Doc Shaw. She started to explain again about how busy he was and the results of my test. I had to interrupt her and thank her for her time and that I would like to see the Doc I made an appointment will Doc Shaw. I waited another 35 min feeling upset about the run around and for having to ask to see him. When someone makes an appointment with me, it does not mean an hour after the appointment is set that someone then has to ask for my attention again? I finally had a chance to see Doc Shaw and within 10 min he said he does not see anything wrong with me and I need to see another Doc. You wasted my time twice. I have been sick more then 5 times! I think he was annoyed I had to asked to see him? He explained he had no answers or ideas, he only deals with one part of the body. His office called me to see how I was doing after my boss unbeknownst to me send an email to them about how upset I was. I said thank you for the call, who is this? It’s the first Doc you spoke with, I said thank you for her call, I expressed some concern about my visit, «this is how our office works, if he can’t see you someone else will». I said I appreciate the call but why did Doc SHAW not call? He is out of the country. He is a busy person I get it.
I feel he wasted my time twice.
Doc Shaw you and your office did not set the right expectation. I will never visit your office again. I would appreciate it if you refunded my co-​pay for wasting my time twice. I wish you and your staff the best.

I highly recommend Dr. Shaw and team. I had my vasectomy a couple of days ago and I feel great. Their office was beautiful and the staff had excellent patient care. The whole process took about 5 minutes once he started and did not hurt a bit.

straight and to the point. My husband felt a lump down there around christmas eve… The ER center ultrasound confirmed it was a suspicious lump. Dr. Shaw perfomed husbands surgery the day before new years eve! Turns out my 33 yr old hubby had stage 1a testicular cancer but we could not have been in better hands! I highly recommend Dr Shaw and guys… check ur balls ! the earlier the better! We are thrilled we found it early and Dr Shaw worked with us and he was our blessing during such a difficult time. i highly recommend!!!

I have had a rough time of it with these kidney stones and infections and I was referred to Dr Shaw and within two seconds of walking into the office, I felt immediately better and at peace. Dr Shaw had amazing front desk staff, super friendly, smiling and comforting. The nurses were amazing and Erika was great when is came to scheduling the surgery and following up with me. Her smile and personality lit up all of the rooms she was a part of. I go to Dr Shaw with confidence as he knows his stuff. He exudes wisdom, knowledge and comfort. I am so thrilled to have found him, and I now cannot imagine going through all of this mess without him or Aneesa. Much love and grateful hugs to the whole staff and together, I know in my heart, we can figure out why the kidney stones and infections keep coming back. I have complete faith in Dr Shaw and Aneesa!

I got a vasectomy today, and it wasn’t bad at all. Dr. Shah was awesome. His nurse practitioner though we weren’t going to be able to do it because I’m a big guy and she couldn’t find the plumbing. But Dr. Shah came in and manipulated the giblets and got it done. There were no needles and it took less than twenty minutes. It was a great experience.

I got to listen to a couple who told me their journey to finding Dr. Shaw and drove all the way from South Texas to get treated for a tumor that was seriously the size of his stomach, for the robotics that Dr. Shaw is known for. It made me proud to know Dr. Shaw and his staff.

DR Shaw and his staff are great. It was easy to set up appointments, follow ups. Almost no waiting time in the waiting room or in the actual exam room. I went in for a procedure, and the staff was very helpful, very informative. I have recommended DR Shaw to a couple of friends already, would definitely recommend him to anyone.

I had been trying to work out the big V in my head for quit some time. Needless to say I am beyond the diapers and formula game. Really hard choice to make as a Man of a Dominican background a stigma is layed on pretty thick. It took me about 4 years to make the call. I recall some local Radio personalities doing the procedure online and remember those guy’s being OK after the fact. This was the most relaxing environment possible. Everyone in the office was very pleasant and professional. Dr. S is humorous and is a great conversationalist and if I wasn’t getting my stuff worked I would have made for better shit shooting. Unilocaler’s beware this a Great place to address your De-​fertilizing needs. I wish I would have made the sooner.

I just had my vasectomy done by Dr. Shaw and his staff. Highly Recommend.
1. Easy to schedule and clearly answered all of my questions. Nurse was happy to answer my questions over the phone about how soon I could sing a Christmas program after my scheduled surgery.
2. Everyone in the office was friendly and professional. They brought me back to the room and gave me an info video to watch that was designed to make you laugh a little and get your mind off of the procedure.
3. I was very impressed at the lengths everyone went to… in order to make me comfortable. His assistant did a precursory exam and did not ‘look’ at my genitals, just felt for any issues. They gave me a sheet and made sure the area was covered while they worked. I just did not feel exposed or uncomfortable.
4. Dr. Shaw was friendly and professional. He tried to keep me comfortable by making light conversation during the procedure and was done very quickly. He even gave me a little more local pain killer when he sensed I could feel a little pain.
In summary, if you are looking for a vasectomy, I would highly recommend Dr. Shaw and the folks at Austin Urology. Very professional, courteous and above all respectful.

Seems like a great practice. I went for a –uhm– sensitive procedure and everything was calculated to put me at ease. Gentle bedside manner, a little humor, friendly staff, surprisingly quick, painless, easy execution.
A few days later I feel really good — haven’t needed my pain medication or anything.
The only reason I give less than 5 stars is that I felt a little — pandered to? I’ve been to a few doctors in different fields who try so hard to put me at ease that they seem dismissive of my concerns. This experience wasn’t too bad, but it was in that genre. I like for a doctor to answer my questions seriously and completely. I wouldn’t go to the office if I wasn’t leaning towards getting the procedure or service. Once I’m there, I want to feel confident because I’m well informed, not because the doctor asserts that nothing bad is going to happen.
