Austin Play Garden is a preschool that focuses on play as a means of learning. We use research based methods and approaches to working with young children. Exploration, the use of the environment, and forming secure relationships are very important to our approach to educating children.

History

Established in 2014.

Austin Play Garden was founded in 2014 by sisters and long time educators, Claire Smith and Hannah Rosenbaum. The idea to open a school for the Austin community came from their experiences in child care, public schools and working with families in general. They believe that early childhood is the most important time developmentally in a person’s life. The goal was to create a school that provides high quality educators and experiences for this time equal to the standards met for any other time of a student’s life.

Meet the Business Owner

Business Owner

Claire Smith has worked in childcare and public schools for the past 12 years. Claire graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 2006 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. After spending two years teaching in Atlanta, Georgia, she moved back to Austin where she taught for the past six years. During this time, she earned her Master’s Degree from the University of Texas in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education.
