I have seen Dr. Hasson on 2 accounts. One for my knee and one for my ankle. On both visits, he didn’t spend a lot of time actually looking at my body — just rushed me to X-​Rays and then MRIs, which were very costly on my part due to my insurance. My first visit was for my knee and I ultimately ended up getting a Cortisone shot for that, which was helpful. And for the second visit — When my ankle was still bothering me after a bad sprain which happened years ago, I finally decided to bite the bullet and go in. I see an excellent massage therapist on a weekly basis. She also works at a chiropractic clinic and is a true expert on myofascial massage. After working on this particular injury for about a year, she was concerned that is wasn’t healing. My sprain had caused my bones to shift in my foot — creating a visible gap in the ankle, which differed from my other foot, if anyone bothered to look at it. My massage therapist was worried about a tear in the band of fascia at the connecting point of my ankle. She could release it through massage, but every time it would tense up afterward as if protecting something. So, she urged me to get it check out. I called and asked if Dr Hasson worked on ankles. They said yes. I went through all of the rigmarole with getting a referral from my primary doc, etc. So — when seeing Dr. Hasson for my ankle, I told him right up front about what my massage therapist and I were worried about. He said «you can stop talking right there. I’m not going to listen to any massage therapist». ??? This person spends over an hour a week working on my injury and has training in anatomy and you’re not going to listen to her? He didn’t even compare my injured foot to my good one — just sent me off for X-​rays. They came back fine, so he referred me to an MRI immediately as a next step. This MRI was costly to me — again because of insurance — but I agreed to it because I need to know what is going on with my body. When I went to Dr. Hasson for the follow up visit to get the MRI results, he hadn’t even read them yet. He sat there and cruised through them in front of me. Basically saying I had some minor tendinitis and plantar fascitis but that everything was fine. He said if I really felt like I had something going on he would refer me to a foot doctor because he really only worked on knees. Hello? 2 doctors visit fees, X-​rays, and an MRI fee and then you want to send me to someone more qualified? I wasn’t leaving there without something, so I asked for a Cortisone shot in the hopes that it would help out like it did my knee. We’ll see.
As for the staff, they were nice but very unorganized. I knew from my first experience (with my knee) that only Seton takes my insurance for MRIs. I told them that and they still referred me to Longhorn Imaging for the MRI. I had to call the office and say that Longhorn imaging doesn’t take my insurance. (We had this exact conversation 9 months prior.) So, we had to go through the process of getting the referral to Seton. When they finally got it, it was taking a while to get an appointment scheduled so I finally just bit the bullet and called Seton. Well, it turns out that the referral they had was for the WRONG ANKLE. I asked if they could just change it. They could not. So, I had to call Dr. Hasson’s office AGAIN and get a new referral for the correct ankle to the correct MRI place. This took forever, so the whole process was delayed.
If my ankle isn’t magically healed by this cortisone shot, I will seek treatment ELSEWHERE for sure.

I just saw dr. Hasson in last 10 days at Greater Austin Orthopedics on Eiger in SW Austin/​Oak Hill near w.c. and 290W. I too did not have a good experience with Dr. Hasson but didnt know about these reviews because I guess this was his prior practice and I didnt know to look here.?
I only had 2 office visits but he rushed in and out both times, less than 5 minutes, never physically had me get on the table to move my legs to understand more where my pain was coming from (i know its bone trauma from previous accident) and based solely on an MRI report (he doesn’t actually view the MRI) he suggested I go to the pain dr. across the hall. I took my MRI disc to Tx Orthoprdics on 360 and they reviewed MRU with me and discussed my concerns. We came up with a treatment plan that should isolate the pain amd resolve it.

Dr Chen is pretty good doctor if you need your knees check out.
If your looking to get Rehab, don’t go with these guys. They
are all their to collect a paycheck. I initially thought it would be
good from the first consultation, but after first visit, they give you a list of
exercises and ask you to do it on your own while they surf the internet
on the computer all while charging you $ 60 a hour.
If you need a doctor, it is a pretty good place.
If you need Rehab, please go somewhere else

Dr. Hasson. Well it looks like most people appreciate his manner and his surgical skills. I did not have surgery, so I cannot attest to his skills. His manner during the first visit was good. I felt like he was paying attention and wasn’t too rushed, although my total time with him may have been 5 minutes, most of which was small talk.
He ordered an X-​Ray, which I appreciated since I have a repetitive injury that I want answers on. He pointed out on the image some extra bone mass that was interesting, but not alarming.
He ordered an MRI.
I made the mistake of looking at the MRI images before returning and had some questions that I was excited to hear the answers to.
He absolutely refused not only to entertain my questions seriously, but also to even review the MRI with me. He said he completely trusted the radiologist and would not be discussing the images with me (despite the fact he had discussed the X-​Ray with me…) $ 500 dollars later with greater concerns than before I ever entered his office, all I have is the advice to stretch a lot. I already stretch quite a bit and am in the best shape I have been in a few years, yet I still get the same old injury. «Stretch more» may be the answer, but a little consideration for people who cannot easily dish out lots of cash for miserable patient interaction, veiled insults, and total lack of regard for patient concerns.
He did, however, offer to refer me to another doctor. Well, if they’re as considerate and helpful as him, I’ll pass. Then I get to pay for the experience on the way out the door… Thanks for nothing. Enjoy living in your castle while poor saps like me get sucked in and spit out.
I apologize to those who know him and love him. I can see that side of him. I also saw the side that was sputtering and stuttering when I asked him a series of questions and then became obstinate and unfriendly to the point of insulting.

One positive note to consider is that I decided to contact the office and demand that I be refunded my copay and not have my insurance charged. They readily agreed to do so. That should never have to happen, but I appreciate their willingness to understand that I was under no impression that the doctor had performed at an acceptable service level.

I had a major knee surgery done by Dr Hasson and could not be happier with his services from start to finish. I have had many problems with my knee in the past but Dr fixed me up. Straight shooter who really cares about his patients and well being.

I broke my finger — I know, stupid thing to do. Wasn’t planned. Wet concrete, not supposed to run, I know, I know. What can I say, I’m a daredevil. A daredevil with a broken finger. Ended up at Austin Orthopedics. Here’s the thing — the staff were all pleasant. Well, not all the staff — the check-​in lady was a little grumpy and that’s fine, I wasn’t really expecting all that much from her in the first place. The techs, they were all very nice. The doctor was even all right — I was really hoping for more of a take charge kind of approach though, as Dr. O was very, very laid back. I heard a lot of, «Give it time» and «Well, that’s the way fingers are, you know…» kind of comments.
Why the bad review is the wait time. The office is incredibly disorganized. I showed up three times. All three times, had to wait over an hour and a half. Once — fine, busy day, I guess — but three times? That’s a pattern. I’m taking off from work here, people. I don’t have all day. Well the third time — yesterday — I gave up. I waited an hour and a half, and then I came out and asked how much longer it was going to be and they checked the charts, said he had two more before me, that it was going to be a while. So I left. And then I got a phone call, and that’s what sent me over the edge, because she wanted to know why I left, she said I was next, she said the doctor came in but I wasn’t there, putting the blame on me, like I’d vanished, pulled an Eastwood out of Alcatraz, like I hadn’t asked about the wait and told them I had a job, I had to leave. Disorganized. So what I’m saying is not a horrible place or anything, but you’re going to need to clear your schedule.

I wish to warn potential and actual patients about one of the 2 doctors, Dr. Newt Hasson. My wife’s mom was almost killed by this man. He discharged her after a double knee replacement that required several follow-​up surgeries *without* wound care instructions to the rehabilitation clinic (she was 79 at the time). We received an urgent phone call days later that her prosthesis was actually visible through the wound (it had not been cared for because of his failures). She required another emergency operation. I will never forget my wife *pleading* with Dr. Hasson at the discharge site to actually write instructions for her care. My wife and mother-​in-​law left in an ambulance, I remained behind. Two nurses came up to me and told me what a bad doctor Dr. Hasson was, rather indirectly at first. I asked, somewhat puzzled, whether we should be taking my mother-​in-​law to Dr. Hasson at all. She said, «Honey, I wouldn’t take my dog to Dr. Hasson.» The infection that set in was what almost killed her. Looking back, I could see he had made a number of mistakes. We convinced my mother-​in-​law to switch doctors (she is the type that defers to authority). When she eventually told Dr. Hasson she was getting a different doctor, he tried to intimidate her (I was there). «We’re almost married,» he said, or words to that exact effect.
I know what I’m talking about. I’m a Harvard summa cum laude in Physics and Chemistry, and I spent my whole life at the National Institutes of Medicine in Bethesda, MD doing fundamental research on fluorescent dyes, work published internationally.
I caution you: do not trust this man!!! He is not trustworthy.
