History

Established in 1999.

We began back in 1999 as Beds Beds & More. It didnt take long to figure out how toxic fire retardants and mattress innards had become, even back then. We were the first mattress store in Austin to begin carrying organic mattresses.

Then 2007 rolled around, and the national fire retardant standards got very draconian, and stay that way until today. It is then that we stopped carrying the old regular mattress line ups everyone carries, started carrying only mattresses with a natural story, and changed our name! Mattresses as of 2007 have to be in essence fire proof (35 seconds with a blow torch, 30 minutes with soft flame), and the way normal manufacturers do this is by spraying toxic chemical fire retardants onto their mattresses. Formaldehyde, PBDE’s, antimony, melamine & more have been recorded off gassing from these mattresses (Greenguard organic certification vacuum off gassing tests). At Austin Natural Mattress, our mattresses are fire proof via natural means, such as organic wool!

Being a bit of a music nerd with a love for all things natural and organic, I started my volunteer work with local eco-​revolutionists Ecology Action over 10 years ago. Initially it was with organizing monthly benefit concerts for them, but I eventually became a volunteer organizer of some of their off-​site event recycling efforts. This experience made me want to approach the organizers of the Austin City Limits Music Festival about managing their entire recycling program. They liked my ideas for where to take the program and I successfully managed that program for five fun and crazy years. These days I spend most of my time with my 3-​year-​old son Wade.

In my spare time we enjoy recording bands and musicians in our small home recording studio, playing bocce ball in the backyard, camping at music festivals around Texas, and trying to make the world a better place for my son.

I had decided on a latex mattress, but one with latex over coil springs – not that easy to find. Austin Natural Mattress had a nice selection of these though, made by the honest, hardworking Amish craftsmen of someplace or other. No kidding. So, they had the product I wanted and a very good brand, as well.
I asked a lot of questions and spent a long time just trying out different mattresses over several visits. Charles patiently remained friendly, professional, and very informative.
Delivery was as promised and my only problem now is that I don’t want to get out of my bed to go to work.

We’ve been sleeping on our mattress for a little over a month now. The whole sales and delivery process was a full 5 stars but I wanted to see how the mattress performed before writing the review. As you can see we are more than happy with our new bed. Charles has a great method for helping you find the right bed, first asking you about your current bed then asking what you like and don’t like about it. From that point he puts you on the bed he thinks is best then has you try out a bunch of others. He was spot on with his recommendation and we ended up with his first recommendation based on our discussion. I have to tell you the last month of sleep has been the best in years. Fair warning, you aren’t going to find a bargain here. These are high end mattresses but well worth the cost when you realize you’re spending up to a third of your day using it.

I’ve always been a fan of the natural latex mattress. After visiting a couple of stores I was so confused and tired of the high pressure sales. I found Austin Natural Mattress on Unilocal and after seeing the great reviews, we went to check it out. I loved the laid back atmosphere in the store. We had plenty of time to try all of the mattresses and never felt like we were being stalked. Charles is very easy to work with and took excellent care of us. We bought on the spot and have been thrilled with our choice. The delivery guys were great as well!

We would give more than 5 stars if we could after purchasing mattresses from Austin Natural Mattress. It was such a positive and easy experience working with Shane (the owner) and Charles. We had done some research on beds but it was great to have Shane and Charles help us as they were super knowledgeable, friendly, and answered all our questions whether we called or came in the store.
We appreciated they didn’t mind that we came in to lay down on different mattresses on different days (it’s
lay on a mattress at least 30 minutes or more) They are both laid back but their expertise comes through in guiding us to the best mattress for our needs. I have back issues and Charles has gone above and beyond to help me try different options and make sure I got the best option for my back. Delivery guys were nice and helpful as well. We’re both sleeping better and enjoying our mattress.

Can’t say enough about how much I liked the folks at this store. We’d been to a couple of the big chains and just didn’t like the vibe of the salesmen or the store. This store was low pressure, but attentive and super helpful. I was almost scared off by the name «natural» in the title (thinking it would be out of our budget). However, I was pleasantly surprised by some of the more affordable options they had available. In short, we got a mattress that we truly love, that’s locally made, from a local business, with a great warranty, free delivery and we were able to finance it. Great products and a great store!

From our first visit to receiving delivery of our mattress yesterday, I am pleased with the service and expertise the store provided. There are many beds to try in the showroom. Charles listened carefully to our specific needs and worries, showed us the best options for us, and never put an ounce of pressure on us to buy.
When we returned a few days later to purchase our mattress, the transaction was efficient and pleasant. We bought over the holidays, and received our mattress in 13 days. I didn’t keep the names of the delivery men, but they were also genial and efficient.
We are relieved to have 90 days to make sure our mattress will work for us, and for Charles’ advice to make sure we had two viable options in the store so we would have something to trade for if this one did not work out.

Had to write an update after finally purchasing my mattress. Everything written previously still stands. But as far as price goes, docking 1 star for the high prices. I found a similar mattress for much less. Might be due to difference in brand, but I was glad I did more research before considering buying one of the lowest-​priced mattresses here.
«Went in & definitely was a different vibe from other mattress stores. AKA — no one watching your every move or pressuring you to buy anything.
Charles was respectful & answered all the questions we had & didn’t try to sell us anything. He mainly sat behind the desk as we perused & tried different mattresses. Was honest in answering our questions about durability & cost & brands & specials. Really appreciated that!
Delivery is free, so that’s a plus if you’re shopping. »

The first mattress we chose was a little too firm. But the delivery and set up or excellent from Chris Delivery Service. We were able to exchange the mattress that was too go rm for the next one down. The second delivery despite a snafu on the original delivery date, went extremely smooth on the next day with Chris Delivery Service.

Its been 2 months since we bought a new bed from Austin Natural Mattress. The Unilocal reviews pointed us here, and they were right! The organic bed doesn’t retain our heat at night, I’m getting a better nights sleep, my wife doesn’t complain about me moving around at night, she’s also getting a great nights sleep, hurting less in the mornings. Our cats like it too! Overall the organic memory foam, just feels amazing!
Really nice people, non pushy, you walk in, try out the beds, they come to you a little while later, or you go to them to ask questions. Charles was great to work with, and we are both really pleased with our purchase!

They didn’t treat us like we were stupid!
We had already done a lot of research and knew what type of mattress we wanted, and they were able to help us find one that did not have carpet padding in the foam!
What really sold us, though, was a mattress company that donates a bed to people in need when you buy one of their mattresses. It made me feel like buying a mattress was not just about me but about helping others.
The associates are unbelievably helpful, and they will trust your opinion.

After a frustrating buying experience at a big name national mattress store, we found Austin Natural Mattress and Charles’ no pressure no nonsense style. He patiently listened to the problems I had with my last mattress, listened to what was wrong with my back and helped point us in the right direction to a natural mattress that we would like. Immediately felt welcome when entering ANM. Charles was helpful without a hint of sales pressure and very friendly. It was just the place I was looking for after too much confusing research online and visits to big box retailers.
Got a great deal on a floor model mattress. I’m afraid it may be a little firm, but nothing a mattress topper cant solve. Spend as much time as you need testing. Note– Floor models cannot be exchanged. Should of known or asked so I don’t blame ANM, but was hoping to bring back and exchange for a softer model or a king size. Just a note.
Highly recommend these guys. Look no further and go see Charles.

We looked at mattresses for my kid at two different places in town — and bought one from the other place. BIG MISTAKE. After getting that all resolved amicably, we were back to square one, so we went back to Austin Natural Mattress. Charles was just as helpful as he’d been the first time we came by.
When he heard we’d had a bad experience, he offered to have the mattress we were looking at brought to the store for us to test out — with no commitment from us to buy. He said he’d prefer to do it that way than have us order it and be freaked out waiting for it to show up, without any confidence that it would be what we wanted. He did exactly that, and it showed up when he said it would, and it was perfect.
We were there on a Saturday afternoon and the delivery truck was just getting loaded up, so Charles popped out back to see if they could bring us the mattress that day. Yes! And they showed up on time and were extremely pleasant and helpful, even though they’d had a hard time finding our house on the map and when they called me, my phone helpfully chose not to ring. And did I mention they’d brought the mattress up our front yard steps, which I’m pretty sure are equal to an entire flight of inside stairs?
When we need to replace our king-​size mattress, which we also bought somewhere else several years ago and it’s been a mistake too, I know where I’m shopping.

I had to talk my boyfriend into coming to a «natural» mattress store. We had our minds pretty much set on a sleep number. But I really wanted to see if a natural mattress could be a solution for us– I wanted something eco– friendly and without all the toxins.
This store is great– no pressure, very imformative! We ended up finding an awesome bed that met both of our needs, was versitile, and will last MUCH longer than a sleep number (and can’t break!).
I highly recommend this store if you are in the market for a mattress!

This place is amazing! Came in looking to get an organic latex mattress and said I was hoping to spend under $ 5k. Charles told me he could get me everything I wanted in a mattress for under $ 3000! We ended up paying even less than that for an all organic king-​sized locally-​constructed natural latex mattress. The best part is that each side is customizable so neither my husband nor I had to compromise our comfort. We have purchased other bedding accessories as well — everything has been top quality. He even sent us home with all the organic certifications for our mattress so we could feel secure in our purchase. The whole experience was great — extremely knowledgeable service, no sales pitches and no rushing the process. Can’t wait to come back when we upgrade our son to a regular twin bed!

I have been living in Austin now for about 9 months and happened to move here on one of the 4 rainy days Austin has experienced since that point. After reading what sounded like an unusual amount of OMG-​worty Unilocal reviews about Beds, Beds & More, I decided that the first thing to do to spruce up my barren non-​furnished apartment was to snag a mattress.
Sopping wet and cold, I walked into beds beds & more and Charles turned my grey skies to blue with professionalism, kindness and just plain «austin» vibes. Within 15 minutes I not only had ordered a fairly priced mattress, but a bed as well. Charles even offered to send me home that day with a mattress to sleep on until that which I ordered came into the shop.

We bought a bed here last weekend and found the reviews on Unilocal to be very accurate in terms of how low-​to-​no-​pressure the sales people are here. Charles, the sales person that day was very helpful answering any questions we had and patiently waiting for us to come to him.
After deciding on the mattress that felt right, Charles worked with us on what I believe was an excellent price for the mattress set. Less than a week later, our bed has been delivered and I’m looking forward to spending my first night on this new bed. The entire sales and delivery experience went very smoothly so I’m glad we found this business and recommend them to others shopping for a new mattress.
