Friendly staff, lots of food options, clean and great seating inside and out, mellow music which isn’t too loud. About the only thing I can see is the lack of outlet… which if that’s the only thing, it’s not too bad.

Food is great but takes forever to clean up tables and clean up is just removing dishes. It would be great if someone wiped down.

Moving to downtown and the most important thing in my decision is the proximity and quality of coffee shops. Need to know there is someplace close that I can go to on a regular basis for a good cup and occasional meal. Found four places within a two block area and was sold! First stop in my coffee tour was Austin Java. Ended up here twice in one weekend. First visit coffee and second visit breakfast. Here goes! Coffee –3 stars Had a cold brew and my friend had a mudslide one day and a mocha the next. Cold brew on first trip was a lot better than on the second day. Pretty sure the second day the coffee hadn’t brewed as long so lost the smooth taste of my first cup. My friend said the mudslide was really tasty, but his mocha was pretty unremarkable. Breakfast — 3 stars Ordered an egg white omelet and biscuits and gravy. Egg white omelet was unseasoned and pretty overcooked. Biscuits and gravy were good but nothing remarkable. Also lacked some seasoning. Heard from some other folks the eggs benedict are relish, so if we come back may give them a shot. Not horrible, but not memorable. Service — 2 starts On our first trip this place was dead. Walked in and no greeting just a girl behind the counter who looked at us and waited. Placed our order, paid, and given our drinks. No interaction, no simply thank you, or even have a nice day. Just nothing. On our second trip we got there pretty early and they had a few tables full but not jammed. Same counter person with no personality. While I don’t expect circus entertainment, it would be nice to at least be acknowledged. When we placed our order she gave us one drink and didn’t give us the other. When we sat down we weren’t sure if she would bring it or if we needed to go back. When the food was delivered the guy who served us asked us if we needed anything so at least one person seemed to want us there. With all the choices around here, not sure I will give them a 3rd chance. Reading a few reviews, seems there have been some service problems. Come on folks. this is Austin not LA. Relax and maybe show a tad bit of hospitality!

Stopped in to grab dinner and a drink before a show at Moody Theatre. They have a good selection for it being known more as a coffee shop so I recommend folks check out their menu. Love that they serve breakfast all day… I had french toast for dinner. Yum!

In this overly pretentious part of town i got some delicious fish tacos and salsa to die for for a good price and a relaxed atmosphere. Definitely going to be a new stopping place when i come to town.

We are big fans of the breakfast at all 3 Austin Java’s in Austin. Late week I went to the one on 2nd street and was very disappointed in the service and the food. When I ordered my breakfast I ask for ice tea the woman told me they did not have any iced tea today. I ask do you have hot tea and I was told that they did in fact have hot tea. So I ask for 2 cups of hot tea and a glass of ice. She actually told me «they do not do that». So naturally I ask why and was answered«we don’t do that». I was in a hurry so I just let it go and got water usually I would ask for a manager but no time to fight. I ordered the breakfast quesadilla which turned out to be runny, terrible taste; tortillas were way over cooked and had patches that were burnt. I won’t be going back to that location.

I liked being able to go across the street from ACL Live to grab a hearty cup of good coffee to go! I have also visited their other locations — all very casual — but the food is good and there are several healthy choices on the menu.

This place is incredible. The service was fast. I went on Sunday afternoon around 3pm. Nice energy and friendly service. The coffee I had was really strong and flavorful. I would highly recommend the Crab Benedict. Crab cakes with lump crab meat, seasoned to perfection, perfectly poached eggs, creamy hollandaise sauce, capers & green onions on top of an English muffin. I had a side of potatoes, which were very tasty although they would be even better if they were a little crunchy to add some texture to the dish. I also tried the biscuits and gravy. Heavenly!!! I will definitely be back!

Pretty yummy food, friendly staff. I LOVE the pastas here and it is conveniently located downtown across the street from ACL Live. Definitely a must try for a local Austin café.

I come here fairly often for lunch since it’s close to my office and has healthy options plus coffee… usually a winning combination for me. It’s a bit pricey, but being downtown, I grudgingly accept that. Usually I get a salad, and the quality is hit or miss – for instance, sometimes they forget to include the bread slice and/or salad dressing on my to-go order. Not a big deal, but if it happens often enough… My most recent experience sealed my decision to not come here anymore. I ordered the Thai One On salad, and not only was there no bread or dressing, but just a little peanut sauce dribbled on a mass of hard refrigerated noodles(normally they’re at least tossed in the sauce). Just three scraps of red pepper and some bean sprouts under it on a bed of lettuce… easily a $ 10 salad with $ 1.50 worth of ingredients. I felt kinda robbed and still hungry afterward, which is not a good feeling when you still have to spend 4 – 5 hours sitting at your desk before another chance to eat. I know another place a 5-minute drive away where I can get a stellar salad with egg, avocado and chicken al carbon for about the same price. Guess that’s where I’m headed from now on. Smell ya later, Austin Java…

Friends keep making this a meeting spot and I totally get it. Conveniently located, it’s a great place to grab a cup of coffee and chill. It does get crowded as they have a good menu as well, but hit it up early or late and you’ll have a perfect spot for people watching, especially if there’s a show at Moody Theater. The outdoor patio is a really nice place to sit with tables scattered and plenty of room in between. Plenty of bike parking in the area as well, a bonus for me since I’m typically meeting folks here to ride bikes. The coffee options are great. I’ve tried sweet and unsweetened drinks and enjoyed both. The folks working here are always nice to me and helpful if I have questions. Perfect meeting spot if you’re doing something in the area!

Ok, so it was the last meal before prepping for a medical procedure. I had high hopes, and ordered two eggs, scrambled soft and white toast.(keeping to that prescribed diet, naturally!) What I got was eggs that could have doubled as tire material; they were that rubbery. Under seasoned, lukewarm, and I choked down one bite before giving up. I thought, okay, I will focus on the toast. It wasn’t bad toast; after all how much can you do to screw up toast beyond burning it? Well, you can serve it so cold that the butter won’t melt on it. My friends arrived and I took solace in my iced tea, but the breakfast/last meal was a total bust and although I could see that the people behind the counter noticed, no one said a word, offered a replacement meal, or even an apology. We meet there fairly regularly, but from now on, I think I will just stick to tea or coffee and leave the menu alone.

The pancakes & French toast was awesome here! The atmosphere here just having breakfast outside was very relaxing. Last time I came here I got the breakfast quesadilla and that was like heaven sooooo good I started making it at home also! The coffee is always great here!

Ya know… It’s really sad when the attitude of one staff member brings down an experience. I was wandering downtown and stumbled upon this place and thought, «how neat! I’ll eat here!» So I went in, looked at the menu on the wall, approached the counter, and ordered. Once the girl at the front counter took my card I said, «this is a neat little place!» And she responded with a bitter, «it’s a’ight». A small blonde girl who had the attitude that either I took too long to order, her boss pissed her off recently, or she thought she was too cool for the place she was working at. I took my number and sat outside. When she brought my food she had that same«meh» attitude. I thanked her with a smile on my face trying to forget it all. I sat there and enjoyed my French toast, the city, the weather, and the pigeons coming close and cooing. It’s definitely a good location. Then as it was time to leave I decided I’d bring my plate inside since the pigeons would probably be all over it if I left it. And again… the attitude of this girl as she took my plate was just bratty. A young unappreciative brat who doesn’t know how to smile even when someone is smiling and thanking her. I’d give the location 4 stars The food 3 ½ And the attitude of this one girl a zero for sure. Such a shame.

I know this is Austin and everyone loves Austin Java, but as far as I’m concerned their food and their coffee is mediocre at best. Please, if you have non-Texan visitors in town visiting, don’t let their first breakfast tacos be from Austin Java.

I’m referring to the City Hall(2nd& Lavaca) location. This past Saturday morning, my husband and his sister stopped in for some coffee and breakfast and the cashier(young lady) treated us like absolute dog shyt! I ordered then nudged my husband to order next and she said«I’M NOTREADYFORYOUYET!» My husband replied with«Excuse me?» I can’t believe how rude she was and didn’t care how she took our order. I swear I will never step foot in this particular location. It is unbelievable how the younger generation is so disrespectful and have no remorse about it. I can’t wait to hear how you handle this. She obviously either hates her job or doesn’t care.

I walked in here, because a lot of the other restaurants on 2nd and Colorado streets had a one hour wait on a table for 3, for sunday brunch. I was desperate, my tummy was rumbling(from hunger, obviously) and so was my almost three year old, insisting on waffles«NOW». I just assumed Austin Java would have some coffee and baked goods, and I wandered in. The first thing i saw — we serve breakfast all day. The second — Fireman’s 4 waffle. I ran to the counter at the speed of light, and ordered myself the waffle, a kids buttermilk pancake for my little one, and an espresso to keep myself from falling flat on my face. The pancakes came out pretty fast, I cannot stress how important this is. They were soft, fluffy and the maple butter was an instant hit. The waffles were pretty good. I couldn’t really taste the fireman’s 4– the heat probably makes all the alcohol evaporate– but they were really good. The best part was the coffee maple syrup, I ripped the waffle apart with my bare hands and dunked it in the syrup, stuffed it in my mouth, and I was darn happy. The waffle came with a choice of any two sides/meat, so I opted for the hash browns and toast(for some odd reason), and they were good too, My husband ordered the Greek omelette, which he enjoyed immensely. There are quite a few vegetarian options for the stranded vegetarian, such as myself and a variety of baked goods and coffee. Sandwiches, pasta, soup and of course, breakfast food. The staff were amazing– helpful, patient and cheerful. Finding that kind of service at a coffee place made me really happy. Or it could have been the waffles. Overall, i was more than happy. Austin Java saved my sanity.

This is a great spot to get a good cup of coffee and relax outside for some people watching near the busy intersection outside the big corner location of this chain. They have an extensive menu of cleverly named specialty espresso drinks, such as the Junior Mint and the Caramel Knowledge. I kept it simple and went with an always delicious Vietnamese Iced Coffee($ 4.39 for a medium). It was super refreshing and nice and strong, which did the job of providing relief from the heat and keeping me awake for the rest of the night. With a few other locations around town, this is a good choice for a chain with moderately priced drinks.
