Had my surgery (brostrom repair and a debriment scope) aboouuut… 8 hours ago. Dr. Ebert was great and compassionate and answered my last minute questions for me. All my nurses and his surgical assistant and my anesthesiologist (capitol anesthesia) were lovely and kind. They explained everything before they did it. Dr ebert even took picture with my scope and gave me a copy so i got to see the inside of my ankle which was neat. I was concerned about nausea after waking up so i got a patch behind my ear, zofran in my iv and zofran at hme to take witb my pain meds. I also got a nerve block, so i have 0 pain, just feels like my leg is asleep. It was as nice an experience as any surgery can be. My husband likd tbat they kept him updated and explained my aftr care post op to him since he will be babysitting me the next 2 wks. Please ignore any typos, im on a kindle in bed all druggd up. Dr ebert is great!

Wow I just realize I wrote out my review of my surgery and never actually sent it. Serves me right for trying to write on morphine.
So It’s been over a year since my ankle surgery. I was on an advanced recovery schedule so I got out of my cast and into PT faster than usual, but I want to say I was in my splint for 16 days, my cast for 14 days, and my boot for several weeks (maybe 3 – 4?) The only complaint I have is that I wish they’d go into a bit more detail with you on the psychological aspects of recovery, because that was by FAR the hardest part. Being helpless and unable to contribute to your own life is rough on you, and I was really bummed out there for a while. I do also wish that they would recommend a specific PT. I got a list of whoever was closest to me, and I just picked one at random and I wasn’t super happy with them on the whole.
Visits with Dr Ebert continued over the next few months, and he was always great, as well as his front desk staff. The only oddity in my visits was the nurse who did my cast. She began putting my cast together like normal, and only noticed that she wasn’t doing it right when I said something about beginning to put weight on it. She goes «oh wait… this is a WALKING cast?» I said «um… yeah?» then she told me I had to very quickly put my foot down on a board to get it to set in the standing position before the plaster dried. Now, trying to do that «quickly» with an ankle that feels like it’s falling apart without support is just this side of excruciating, and I was kind of annoyed that she didn’t seem to know what kind of cast she was actually applying. As a result, it didn’t set at a completely flat angle. Also, I didn’t get a choice of color (I got black in summer, sad face)
I ended up only taking my pain med for 3 days because even with zofran I was horribly sick for another 3 days after that, to the point that my husband called Dr. Ebert asking if there was something wrong with me lol. I managed well without the pain meds for the most part, lots of ice behind my knee and keeping it elevated. I had a few sleepless nights when the nerves were healing, and you feel sharp pains as if a tiny gnome is beating on the outside of your ankle with a little pickaxe.
My incisions all healed up beautifully. Swelling lasted a while though, especially when I started back at my standing job. That only really went away 100% about 2 months ago.
The only thing I have left to remind me I had ankle surgery other than 3 scars is that when i’m standing for a while, I can’t go through my whole ROM with my ankle, it catches, and I have to wiggle it around and make it pop before the ROM is back. That’s just scar tissue that I have to work through. I’m 100% pain free from the original problem I had, and I only feel a little aching now and then when I stand for long periods of time, like 5 – 6 hours.

After 5 years of rock climbing, I done gone and managed to get myself injured.
In an odd twist of fate, my injury was similar to the one my wife suffered two years ago, so we knew just where to go after I got out of the ER.
All of my initial thoughts still apply the second time around; It’ll take you a few days to get an appointment, but it’s worth it. Actual facetime with Dr. Ebert is brief, likely because of the number of patients he sees in a day, so come prepared with questions.
I lucked out and won’t be needing surgery this time around, and for that I’m grateful.

Dr. Ebert did hammertoe surgery on my left foot (four toes) in Jan ’13.
I am thrilled with the results. Four months later I wear whatever shoes I wish and have no discomfort. Actually three days after procedure I discontinued pain pills.
I highly recommend Dr. Ebert and his staff for their skill and professionalism. BTW I am a senior and had wonderful results.

After the first appointment I figured a wait of 1.5 hours had to have been abnormal. The first time around I saw Dr. Dodgin for some knee problems. After the extended wait and «we don’t know what the problem is attitude» they sent me to get an MRI. The MRI revealed a meniscus tare and they gave me a shot. That was over a span of two visits.
3^rd visit was with Dr. Ebert for an ankle injury after running the 3M half marathon. After another 1.5 hour wait I got the same «we don’t know what the problem is attitude» as the first time. The final verdict was «wear a boot for 3 weeks» and come back and see us.
This place just sucks! From the crappy long waits to the Dr’s who don’t give a crap, I will never come back to this place again. My Physical therapist also will no longer make referrals to this office as I am not the only patient of his who this happened to.

Dr. Andrew Ebert is truly a godsend. I had a dislocated ankle and a lower fib break. Which he mended with surgery, a metal plate and some screws. The pain management after surgery went incredibly smooth. I only took pain meds for 24hours after. Over 3 months later my pain is manageable to non-​existent. His staff is friendly, knowledgeable and comforting. I feel truly fortunate to have found such a wonderful surgeon. He has taken very good care of my injury. I would recommend him to anyone!

Dr. Andrew Ebert is a skilled, professional, experienced and well-​respected orthopedic surgeon. An added bonus is that he’s a pretty regular guy. I found him via two of the best foot and ankle specialists in the country: Clanton in Houston and Deland in NYC. He is about 25 years their junior — which I see as a HUGE benefit. He has already made his mark earning awards and accolades amongst his colleagues — yet his office is not the circus that Clanton and Deland’s have become. After 20 years of living with a lisfranc dislocation — and increasing arthritis and deformity, I underwent a 1^st and 2^nd TMT joint fusion. The experience was flawless. Pain management was excellent. Surgical care and follow-​up care by Dr Ebert and his staff was thorough and professional. I feel very fortunate to have a top caliber foot and ankle specialist in Austin. I had planned on travelling to NYC or Houston for the surgery and recuperation. I agree with Elizabeth F: So glad I found Dr Ebert.

Orthopaedic Surgery is a BIG DEAL. For anyone but for athletes and professionals who depend on their bodies to make a living or feel alive surgery is a massive stress.
When I finally found out I needed hip surgery, everyone in the fitness/​health industry was divided into two camps: «Go See Dr. Heinrich as Orthopaedic Specials, he’s does more hips than anyone in town. He’s good.» to «Don’t go see Heinrich, he’s does to many hips and too much cutting too quickly. And he’s a jerk.»
I decided to give him a shot. Let me preface the following by saying that after waiting 2 hours I told the Physician’s Assistant what I heard about Heinrich and was concerned. The PA was astonished that anyone would feel that way. I met with Heinrich where upon he gave me the run down of what he wanted to do — which was a far larger intervention that I anticipated. The surgery was going to be much more invasive and recovered harder.
Now in most large cities you have the luxury of choice when it come to quality medical care. In Austin, a city of athletes both professional and amateur, we’ve got nothing when it comes to hip work and really not much good work when it comes to Orthopaedics.
So I headed to Houston to talk with a guy who not only played pro football, but went Harvard and then worked at the country’s leading Orthopaedic Clinic in Vail. Talking with Dr. Addickes’ was a totally different experience. He not only made the go through various functional movement patterns he determined that i only need minor corrective surgery with less recovery.
Three hours is a long ride to go see a doctor, but considering i waited 2 to see Heinrich, not so bad. THere was NO wait time to see Addickes and i’m getting a better surgical outcome to boot!
