Misleading billing practices – not new apparently. See Unilocal reviews Jackie S 6÷12÷2011 and RG 4÷27÷2012 and add me to the list of fools that were told that insurance would cover but got a whopping bill from non-​insurance coverage for PT. I had MD referrals and was told by AdRehab that treatment was covered by both MEdicare and Tricare but noooooo. BEWARE. Like the other 2 reviewers – I didn’t learn the truth until received non-​coverage billing by insurance companies. BEWARE and don’t even believe them that evaluation and/​or treatment by their chropractor is included – such a sly omission… shame and on to Better Business Bureau commplaint.

Dr Z has been such a great help. I have had on and off back spasms/​pain since high school and being a competitive athlete, I thought I knew exactly what to do. Went to Dr Z and found out my idea of ‘helping’ my back was the opposite of what I needed to be doing. Pain free and no issues even doing squats, biking and hard charging skiing. Highly recommended.

Dr. Zelinski and his staff of physical therapy techs and PTs are outstanding and caring in every way. They are professional and know exactly what they’re dong. I’ve not ever experienced the one-​on-​one professional attention that actually worked on my complex issues during these last 6 months.
I highly recommend Dr. Zs practice and would not hesitate for anyone to investigate and have a professional consultation with him. He’s friendly and very compassion and gentle…

Dr Z is an amazing resource for any active person in the Austin area.
I have been seeing him on a regular basis ever since I have moved here and I can happily say that due to his staff and his expertise I have been able to run and work out consistently. He has been able to help me combat overuse injuries in my hips, back, and feet. The combination of ART, strengthening, and flexibility exercises he creates for every visit leaves me feeling stringer than ever.

I can’t speak highly enough of Dr. Z and his staff.
This place is awesome because you can get PT, chiropractic and ART all at once. You can make an appointment pretty much anytime and there is hardly a wait when you go into the office.
If it wasn’t for Advanced rehab I’d still be sitting at home unable to run or work out. Dr. Z has been committed to helping me get healthy and stay healthy and he diagnosed what other MD’s and chiro’s couldn’t. He really get’s to know his patients and doesn’t dismiss them after they are feeling better.
If you’ve tried other places with little to no results, I highly recommend trying out advanced rehab!

I went to Dr. Z’s office with a mild hip issue, some back pain, and some shin splints that were keeping me from running. Within minutes he had diagnosed me with a disc issue. He did his ART therapy one me for about 10 minutes and then it was off to the PT area to learn some roll outs and stretching exercises.
He seemed confident that the issue could be resolved in a timely manner, and I would be up and running in no time.
I went home that day and did some research about the exercises he gave me as well as the condition I was «diagnosed» with. I started seeing some conflicting information. It seemed that the stretches/​exercises he gave me could actually make this condition he said I had worse. If I did have this condition I probably needed to go get an MRI.
I had an appointment for another day that week and asked the PT about it and he was very vague. I started to worry, and I started to think I needed a second opinion. This diagnosis was a pretty serious one… and I didn’t want to take any chances.
(Both times they made me pay a $ 50 copay, even though I told him they could bill my insurance and it would be covered by my HRA. Also, I was quoted that each appointment was $ 80, more on this later)
Turns out after two second opnions that Dr. Z’s diagnosis was incorrect, but also if he truly believed I had that diagnosis he probably shouldn’t have prescribed those stretches and exercises that would indeed make it worse.
I never did go back. I went to a guy up north who had me up and running within a few weeks.
I don’t trust Dr. Zalinkski. I feel like he didn’t take the time to listen to what I was saying, or the time during ART to see where I was hurting and what the issue really was. I had a VERY common runner’s issue, and Dr. Z is supposedly a doctor who caters to runners.
Now on the billing. My HRA/​insurance ended up paying for my visits completely. But instead of the $ 80 quoted they milked my insurance for over $ 500 for two visits! AND they owed me the two co-​payments back which took almost 3 months to receive after my insurance had already paid them. I would call once a week and get a run around every time about when I would be getting the money back. It was a poor customer service experience.
Now, you may read this and think I am disgruntled, that I am a complainer by nature, etc… But honestly, I am just a runner, who got hurt and needed help with a pretty simple injury. I feel like Dr. Z just didn’t spend the time and take the effort. You can’t just throw diagnosis around. You are a doctor, and a professional, and you have to be careful what you diagnose someone with. At least in my opinion.

Dr. Zelinski came to the rescue on my sudden immobility. I woke up last week with a crick in the neck, no biggie… several days later it was feeling better. Then, a turn for the worse. I woke up with a reinjury and much more painful, barely able to move. My neck felt like it could not support my head.
I am getting ready to leave for yellowstone, much hiking and activity planned. Panicked and in pain, I did a Unilocal search and settled here. As soon as I left my appt, I was in much less discomfort. Second appt the next day and after a series of adjustments, stretching, excercises, etc., I am well on my way to normalcy. Dr. Z seemed to really know what was going on in there and took time to work through the pain.
Thank you Dr. Z and staff, I will still be able to enjoy my vacation as planned. A couple of days until I leave and I hope to be good as new by then.

I was at a race & it was clear that the guy in charge (Thin & young with black hair) was more interested in flirting with the cute racer girls than dealing with the cramp that was a huge problem at the time. Even tho there was no one on his table, he blew me off & told me to wait in the hour long massage line. Even tho I had just waited thru that line & the massage therapist had referred me over to him!
Also watch out for being scammed. The guy at the race said my insurance would definatly cover the charges if I came in to the office. So he set me up with appointments 3 times a week. By the time my insurance let me know they would not cover it I had a $ 1500 bill that advanced insisted I pay, would not settle with me, & they insisted that they had done nothing wrong in any way. The desk girl is really rude when you talk to her about it.
I hope the get investigated by better business bueru.

I went back again today and saw Dr. Carter. He was excellent too. Snap, crackle, pop went my neck. Boy, I feel one hundred times better and I can’t wait for my appointment next week.

I have/​had a disc bulge (L4/​L5) since 2005. I have been suffering since. No pain down the leg. I have been to five different doctors. No joke. I’ve tried Chiros, therapy, everything! Someone told me to find, Dr. Z!
Within five minutes of being on his table and receiving the ART treatment I felt great! I am now 98% pain free!
If you are debating. go see him NOW. I promise you will be happy you did!

Doctor Z and his staff saved my half marathon.
I had been participating in a training program (as a totally new-​to-​running runner) when I developed excruciating foot pain.
After x-​rays confirmed there was no break, I went to ART to see what I could do to finish my race (it was only 3 weeks away and I had another 3 weeks after that). Turns out I was suffering from plantar fasciitis.
Dr. Z prescribed ultrasound therapy, exercises, massage, active release therapy, and stretches. I went to his office twice a week and by the day of my first race the pain was reduced enough for me to finish. I continued twice weekly visits for the next three weeks and by the second race, I was pain free.
Not only do I love his office for the miracle they performed on my foot (I couldn’t even walk on it without limping). But he and his staff were the epitome of professional and welcoming.
By the second week, they all knew my name and would ask after my training. Dr. Z made the ART work (which is NOT pleasant, but REALLY helped immensely) as positive as possible by offering constant words of encouragement and support.
A couple of times I had scheduling conflicts and they were pleasant and accommodating.
The office space is large and could comfortably fit several people receiving therapy. He has great equipment and well-​trained therapists.
If you ever find yourself in the unfortunate situation to be suffering from any kind of soft tissue injury, you couldn’t do any better than to put your health and well-​being in Dr. Zelinski’s competent and efficient hands.

I came to Advanced Rehab after suffering from IT band syndrome for about 6 months. I saw multiple doctors who recommended physical therapy, which helped a little, but I was still unable to run without getting shooting pain in my knee almost immediately. After investigating my condition on running forums, I wanted to try ART therapy, and a fellow graduate student recommended Advanced Rehabilitation.
For me, this treatment has been really successful – more successful within two weeks than anything else I have tried for this problem. Dr. Zelinski is very courteous and knowledgeable, and the office runs efficiently – I have never had to wait. The only reason why I hesitate to give Advanced Rehabilitation five stars is because, as one of the previous reviews indicates, this treatment isn’t going to be for everyone (note: they have other treatments too, but I have only done the ART and some physical therapy), and I can’t speak to whether they would steer you away from ART if it is not going to be appropriate. However, if you have done research and you think ART might be for you, I would totally recommend Advanced Rehabilitation. My experience has been overwhelmingly positive – I went from being unable to run for more than five minutes to being able to run five miles in the space of two weeks.

My co-​worker, an exercise enthusiast, recommended this place to me last year. I started becoming unable to successfully lunge with my left foot extended forward because it was agony putting weight on the ball of my right foot.
Dr. Z was very courteous and knowledgeable, and practioned some A.R.T methods on my calf, which he thought might help alleviate the source of my problem, diagnosed as plantar fasciitis. Of course I was on cloud nine, confident that his knowledge and help from the clinic therapists was going to get my problem solved in no time. After a few weeks and more therapy though, I was still suffering at the ball of my foot. Sadly, the manipulation Dr. Z performed wasn’t making me feel so hot. So he recommended I schedule more therapy, and also head to a podiatrist.
In retrospect, I wish I’d known better and just seen a podiatrist initially to get on the fast path towards recovery. With no x-​ray to rule out a bigger problem, it seems like we were flying blind with the therapy sessions. The pain was definitely foot related, and the plantar fasciitis diagnosis didn’t make sense from my internets reading. With x-​rays and and MRI, the podiatrist found that I actually had a fracture at the ball of my foot, and doing anything but booting and immobilizing it was a no-​no. The podiatrist told me to cancel therapy, which I did.
I needed therapy post-​boot, and went back to Dr. Z’s office. It went, as the stars imply, A-​ok. But I feel that my current therapist at ARC has better techniques, recommendations, and knowledge about my particular ailment.

I am an avid athlete who is constantly pushing my physical limits. I have seen Dr. Z (zelinski) at Advanced Rehabilitation before a while back but recently went to see him for a nagging ankle injury. Can I just say Dr. Z is fantastic! I sprained my ankle last summer and it just has not been right since. A pretty good amount of pain and tightness has kept me from running for several months. Nothing I did or anyone else I saw was able to get me healthy again. After one treatment with Dr. Z I was able to run for the first time in like 3 months! The knowledge and experience is amazing. All of the staff is great!

Advanced Rehab is a decent sized medical office with a multi-​pronged, alternative approach to treating various injuries; in addition to Dr. A.J. Zelinski, chiropractor and A.R.T. practitioner — who this review is mostly about — on staff, they have people who practice a variety of modalities like acupuncture, massage, etc. The people who work in the Advanced Rehab office are very nice (and some very CUTE), and the other specialists who do some of the A.R.T. stuff in addition to other modalities of treatment may be great, but I have not worked with any of them and so cannot either yea or nay them.
Why I went to Advanced Rehab:
Sometimes, if you have a particular health problem — which I do, my thyroid is permanently wack — this makes you more prone than the average bear to getting yet OTHER health problems. You’d think having some kinda thing regularly messed up with your body would help you get used to it, or anything else malfunctioning in your body, but this is not the case with me. So you can imagine that when I woke up about 2 months ago going «aw Holy (#*&!(#*!&@#(*& CRAP, when I bend my neck towards my chest, I have tingling, body-​part-​asleep shocks zapping through my chest and back for no apparent reason» I was pretty freaked out. Wah!
I went to a number of MD’s, neurological folk, had a battery of tests, scans… no sign of anything they could detect. Likely a pinched nerve thing. Who knows from what, exactly. I’ve done a bunch of Rolfing and other massage things before, so I tried them again. They felt nice, but didn’t help this particular weirdo neck problem.
So one of my friends recommended finding somebody who does A.R.T. I’m not sure if it’s the A.R.T that’s helping, or the chiropractic, or a combination, or that plus my own gentle exercises and stretching that are getting me slowly back to normal, but something is DEfinitely improving.
What is A.R.T. I like to think of it as targeted, specific stretches that go a bit futher than just a simple stretch, since somebody is essentially stretching YOU. The atxrehab web site says the following:
«Active Release is a highly successful approach to injuries of muscles, tendons, nerves, and the surrounding soft tissues. Active Release is not massage, physiotherapy, or chiropractic care. While those procedures relieve muscle and motion dysfunction, they do not necessarily address the underlying problems caused by scar tissue formation.
Every ART session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The ART provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.
These treatment protocols — over 500 specific moves — are unique to ART. They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient. ART is not a cookie-​cutter approach.»
Dr. Zelinski is a very cool guy. He listens to everything you have to say, and he told me from day one when I was done talking. «Ok, well, I’m not sure what I do will help you, so if it’s not helping, don’t keep coming back here and wasting your money and time.» He also gave me a list of medical practitioners in various fields that he likes, running the gamut from alternative medical practitioners to neurosurgeons! He has also worked with a number of pro athletes in track, swimming, & weightlifting.
In addition to being a full chiropractic care type of office, they also have a bunch of folks on staff to help you do a variety of physical therapy-​type exercises with bunches of gear they’ve got on hand… exercise balls, trigger point therapy, therabands, etc.
So am I all better? Not yet. However, I am MUCH better than when I started going, and I would say I went about 2x a week for the first 2 weeks, and then once a week since then. I think I’m on week 5 or 6 now.
Advanced Rehab accepts a variety of insurance types, yay. They also have multiple locations. The office I go to is the North office. Your mileage may vary.
