The Bee’s Knees

One of the first places I ate at in Augusta, and I’ve returned many times. I’ll start with my favorite part, the booze. They’ve got an extensive list of wine, sake, and homemade cocktails from the fully stocked bar but most importantly is the beer menu. They give you an iPad, called the Beer Pad, which is completely unnecessary but I love it anyways. The Beer Pad is not as extensive of a selection as other places (go next door for that while you wait on a table) but I’ve always managed to find one I like. The server will emphasize the tapas style of the menu, but don’t let the term tapas fool you; I could make a meal out of several of the options. Avocado chop chop and blue crab artichoke dip are my old standbys, and I usually end up sampling something new from the other people’s plates at my table. Their full meals are massive; pad thai was definitely two meals. A little pricy but worth it, this is the type of place you take your parents to convince them that Augusta isn’t quite as degenerate as certain parts of Broad Street would have them believe. They bring out the food as soon as it’s done, so be prepared to share with hungry onlookers if your food comes out first.

I don’t know why I love it so much. Great name? Great service? Probably that and because it is great food that you just can’t get at every other place in town. It’s different. We are craft brew people… and this place has something to offer. Lots of young people but still diverse enough so that we mature folks don’t feel like we are hanging out at Chuckie Cheese. Word to the wise. They are not a 24 – 7 establishment. Downtown Augusta as a whole is more of a Thursday thru Saturday kind of scene. So check before you go! But just be sure to go!

Went into this cute little Tapa and I’m glad I did! This little restaurant is located in downtown Augusta, and I would say it’s decorated a little nicer than most of the other Tapas. Tapas are appetizer sized plates that you can order instead of full meals like other restaurants. The tapas we ordered were the gouda fries with seafood, the garlicky shrimp, and the blue crab crabcakes. My favorite of the three would be the garlicky shrimp. It was full if flavor for just around 5 pieces of shrimp and 4 little pieces of toasted baguette. The nachos were decently sized. Again, this place is more of ordering a few things and sharing instead of full course meals. If you’re looking to eat something that’ll keep you really full, try ordering the larger sized portions. The place is decorated nicely, topped with a candle at your table. Staff is attentive and try to help you with ordering things you’d like. Awesome place to try new things!

Eclectic tapas menu. Lots of spicy and creative flavors. Nice beer, wine and spirits menu. A little dark inside but the food was very good. Staff was youthful and friendly. Deserts change daily. Worth the trip.

The food was fantastic, but what really sold us was the service. Everyone was kind and extremely accommodating.

Its a nice little restaurant for some people I suppose. The staff were very helpful, the booth we were seated in was very comfortable, and service was prompt. They even had champagne sitting at the table as a special request I made before arriving.
Now the bad. The food wasnt quite ridiculously expensive but Id say overpriced at least. Blended tuna on a croûton was more than Id ever pay again. Street parking is always fun to try and get a spot downtown during peak meal hours.
Overall Id say its not bad to try once but Id rather find somewhere else.

The coconut curry Panang is amazing! In love with it! It was just delicious. The ambience in this place is great and it was walking distance from my hotel (Augusta Marriot). I am glad I came here They have awesome draft beer as well.
Will come here again when I visit Augusta!

I had a bad experience here this past weekend. Do not usually write poor reviews as I have been in the industry and tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. We had a group of 7 that they accommodated at an outside table (we were told there would be a heater but none appeared, so a cold experience).
The tapas were good. A friend and I ordered the ramen (myself tofu, and her the chicken). We specifically asked about the broth as she has a serious seafood allergy to shellfish and were told the broth was vegetarian based.
About half way through my bowl of ramen I found two shrimp. We alerted the manager as we were worried that my friends ramen would have been exposed to the same shellfish. The manager came over and adamantly insisted that there was no shellfish in the broth despite the fact that I had found 2 shrimp in my supposedly tofu ramen; she seemed very sure and unwilling to accept the facts in front of her. They did not offer my friend another dish or to take it off the bill (obviously she was to worried to eat the rest). She did in fact have a small allergic reaction later, nothing she needed to use the epi pen for, but none the less this was unacceptable in my book.
The waitress was very nice, and the food was ok, but I would not go back based on this experience.

I grew up around southern eats all my life and this definitely hits the mark.
I can taste the farm the to table concept in my omelet and I can taste the love given to their food in their biscuits (which yes is a great way to evaluate any down home Southern establishment).
For drinks: Yes, you got your standard Mimosas, but then you got your ridiculous amount of options of craft beers and cocktails that are all super well made and comes in a classy looking like cups.
I was a big fan of how super helpful and friendly our server was in supporting a huge group and helping us.
The only reason why they only get 4 stars instead of 5 is that their menu is rather standard in terms of what is offered. In order to wow me, they have to go beyond the traditional cliches of southern food (granted they do a good job of it)…
Add some more flair and you got me.

Give me a break, Augusta. This place is so highly rated and I can only assume it’s because no one knows any better. I usually love tapas and a friendly hipster atmosphere. I was very disappointed. My bruschetta was not appealing: one piece of spinach, two diced tomato pieces, and a minuscule amount of tapenade. It’s as if they are not even trying. I could have made that myself after a trip to publix. It was infuriating. The pad thai is a joke. The drinks are way overpriced and the sangria is downright awful. Don’t buy into this place. Or their counterpart growler bar. They should go to a bigger city with better restaurants to see how it’s supposed to be done.

Meh… tried the panang curry and Gouda nachos. In Los Angeles, curry comes with your meat of choice and a variety of vegetables. At this restaurant, you have to pay $ 2 more for the veggies which are diced way too big. I am assuming if I didn’t order the veggies, I’d just get shrimp and red sauce. Weiiiird! The curry was pretty good though but I was expecting more of a kick like I’d find back home.
Gouda nachos. They were good but could have been better. If this place handmade their own tortillas, then fried them, I think the Gouda cheese would hold better on the chips. It also makes the dish more authentic. The chips got soggy too quickly with the thin chips they had. It would have also been great if there were sprinkles of fresh diced jalepeno and a bit more pico de gallo on it. This would make for not only a delicious app but also better presentation.

Decent brunch but over priced and very slow.
The biscuits were delicious but clearly made with a lot of butter. Took a long time to be seated even though the restaurant was more than 50% empty. Just seemed like there must have been new staff or something considering how slow the service was.
My mom ordered the shrimp and grits for $ 14 and it was such a disappointment — we could make it much better at home. The shrimp were very small and the grits were just so plain. We love shrimp and grits and have had much much better at several places here in town.
I ordered the chicken and waffles and the chicken came almost half uncooked after taking over an hour for it to even come out. Even the server was visibly shocked and embarrassed that the chicken was that uncooked. I was very surprised that the chicken was that raw since it seemed like a regular item on their menu and it had taken so long to come out. Being a amateur cook even I know that a chicken that thick would not cook through being fried like that. The manager/​owner (?) was very sorry and told us that they would expedite the order. But after waiting so long for food to come the first time I was ready to leave and changed my ordered to the biscuit sandwich which seemed like it could be made even quicker. The manager did comp my meal.
The 3 other members of my family really enjoyed their biscuit sandwiches. However it was surprising that something that simple also took an hour to come out.
On the positive side the server was very nice and did check on us often throughout the hour that it took for our food to come out. The restaurant was also clean and cute. The manager was also very sorry about the chicken being that uncooked.
Overall I would not come back. My family certainly does not shy away from expensive restaurants (even much more so than this place) but we also expect the food and service to be somewhat aligned with the price. I understand that even the best of restaurants can have off days but I just wanted to write this review in case others would find it helpful especially since the food was pretty expensive for what you get.

Two words: avocado chop-​chop (or maybe it’s «chop chop» and thus, three words). This place is one of my favourites downtown. Nice, dim lighting, a good bar-​top with great cocktails and specials, and the tapas are not necessarily your run-​of-​the-​mill selections. This place lives up to its name.

This place is just wonderful! My girlfriend and I went for an early dinner we both completely enjoyed the experience. This is a great date spot but also a really cool hang out/​have a few beers spot.
Service: A+ I wish I could remember her name, but there is definitely something to be said about great service. She was interactive and not overly attentive. Recommended a really good new IPA they had and it was delicious!
Food: A– we had guac, Gouda nachos, and fried calamari. The only minuscule complaint I would have is that the guac didn’t have enough salt in it. It was rather bland.
Atmosphere: A+ it’s a great atmosphere. Everyone who works there at least acts like they really enjoy their jobs. The vibe is always great. Not an overbearing crowd and not a bunch of drunks looking for a quick fix.
Overall, I love this place! I highly recommend it and I can’t wait to go back!

Well decorated, with an expansive drink menu, and a good ambience, this restaurant is the perfect place to take friends or a date.
The food, however, was a bit of a hit or a miss. The Pad Thai, for example, was substandard compared to the same dish I would have had at a Thai restaurant. Other dishes though, like the sashimi tartare, was creative and flavorful, but also small and pricey. I attribute this to the wide mix of foods that fill the menu; it is hard to master such a broad variety.
I would return, but would be more careful in menu selection and would only come for a small sampling before going to its sister bar, my preferred place, next door.

We really enjoyed our visit here. We primarily came here for desserts, but also ordered the crab and artichoke dip as well. I’m glad we did because it was great. After finishing our dip, we ordered cheesecake, which was amazing. Our server was very knowledgeable and even made some great suggestions on things to get vs not to get. Next time we visit, we will get entrees. I would definitely recommend visiting The Bee’s Knee’s.

I love the ambience. The chicken and waffle was good but the chicken was a bit bland. I believe the intent is to keep to the original freshness of the item but thank God for the gravy on the chicken. But if there had been salt in the table… Mister had the Coconut Curry Panang with chicken that he loved. I tasted it and it was good with a slight kick. For our apps we had blue crab and artichoke dip with bruschetta. It was heavy on the Parmesan sauce and light on the crab. The menu is small which helps as some menus can be overwhelming.
Overall, I thought the items we ordered were good; not great. It was good enough that I will definitely come back to try other items.

Once again I was impressed with The Bees Knees! They were slammed the evening of the Elton John concert but the service was still fast and friendly. We enjoyed a bottle of wine since it was wine night (½ priced bottles or $ 1 off a glass on Tuesday s) and a lovely selection of tapas. We went with our go-​to favorite of the Gouda nachos with chicken. Additionally we got the crab and artichoke dip and the fresh guacamole. Everything was super fresh and came out immediately after it was prepared. We completed the meal with an incredible piece of cheesecake with strawberry topping and whipped cream on the side.
The hostesses were very nice when we arrived early for our reservation and were able to switch a couple tables which worked out for both parties. Our server, who was obviously busy, was still pleasant and had a smile on her face. Each time I go, the Bee’s Knees moves higher on my list of favorites.

I’m a big fan of the brunch here on Sundays — can’t wait until they start offering it on Saturdays, too. The beer selection is great (half price craft beers during Sunday brunch), and the staff is helpful and friendly. Brunch time is kid-​friendly, but I’m not sure if it would be a place you’d want to take the kiddos for dinner. I’m looking forward to coming back outside of their brunch hours to check out the vibe and sample more tapas options.

Wow! This is my first time here. This place is awesome! The service is impeccable and the food is amazing. If you have not been here yet, you should make it a priority to visit.
