collects in full and wants you to drive five hours back for free to finish work, rent a car and leave the area at your expense.
blames his workers for sloppy work.
rude and full of threats after he has your money.

I had cabinets built for my RV by Milton MacDonald (Mac), owner of Macs RV and Home Repair in Lakeland, FL. The work was very good. I would love to be able to work with him again, but his business practices have driven me away.
Mac quoted $ 1,200 for a job… shame on me — it was a handshake agreement. Halfway through the job, with my RV cabinets torn apart, Mac informed us that the job would actually be $ 1,534. He said parts/​supplies were extra. I gave him the opportunity to do the right thing and accept the amount he quoted, but he refused and stuck to his increased quote. Unfortunately for Mac, had he quoted that amount originally, we still would have had the job done and we would be writing a great review.
Mac was deceitful and tried to make the situation my fault. He justified his position by saying he always quotes labor only and his supplies bill is never known until the end. Reasonable people do not allow open ended contracts for unknown supplies. However, given no written contract, shame on me. Lesson learned!
Macs runs his work out of Fountain RV in Lakeland, FL. I spoke to the owner about the situation and he became aggressive toward me without even looking into the situation. To be fair — I was already mad at Mac when I went to his office, but I did tell him that I was mad at Mac and simply wanted him to be aware of the bad practice Mac was using. I also told him I would review his business together with Mac since he was allowing Mac to operate there and the owner was unwilling to address the situation. The Fountain RV owner blindly backed up Mac without even talking to Mac or further understanding the situation. He admits that Mac taking the additional amount was the wrong thing to do (in his attack, the owner stated I was a [bad person] and I am the «…kind of person who would take the second check as well»).
Beware of these guys. And learn from my poor judgement — get it in writing!

Update:
In addition to the above information, when we left with our RV I asked Mac to take any pictures down from public view on his website. He said, «it will be done by tomorrow.» As you can see from the link he left here, that was also untrue. Surprised and further disappointed. I only ask that Mac do what he says… his work was very good as I stated before.
