University Inn

The definition of filth. I’m cheap and happy to stay in cheap motels, but I’ve now found my limit. Dozens of ants crawling around the sink. Tub completely delaminated, I turned the water on and it ran dark red from rust for the first few seconds. The managers were incredibly defensive when I spoke with them. I wasn’t happy, but was polite. In fairness, the location is hard to beat but they are absolutely taking advantage of people. The hotel legitimately could fail a health inspection

This place is what it is.
The University Inn is an old hotel, plain and simple, and it’s not in excellent shape by any means. The bathrooms are a little beat up as are the interior walls and appliances in the rooms. Everything else is pretty spartan and there’s no bells and whistles.
However, the owner’s of the hotel are very nice, provide free bottled water, basic breakfast, etc. The main selling point of this hotel is that the location cannot be beaten period. Toomer’s Corner is essentially just outside your front door and campus is just as close. As far as I know this is one of two hotels that are walking distance to the university. The University Inn charges a lot ($ 199/​night with a two day minimum) during football season, but so does every other hotel in town.
If you want function and utility over aesthetics, this is the place to be. If not, you may be better off somewhere else.

Please — for the love of god — do not make the same mistake I made. This place is NIGHTMARISH. It is dingy and appears to have not been updated since it was built in the 1960s. Not only does it lack the modern amenities of a hair dryer, iron and ironing board, but the rooms are not well maintained. The bathrooms need tile work, the only place to hang clothes is a rusted steel bar. I was scared to sit on the bed, let alone sleep in it. Don’t sleep here unless you’re too drunk to remember it.

Do not stay at this hotel unless you enjoy living in filth. Our bathroom door had a hole in it and a bloody hand print. The furniture was falling apart and was taped together in some places. The rooms do not include basic amenities like a hair dryer or iron. The manager was rude and unhelpful. They refused to refund my money after I brought all of this to their attention.

Avoid at all costs.
The carpet was badly stained and too disgusting to walk barefoot on. (Sticky in spots). Bad odor throughout. No pillows on the bed (only 12″ throw pillows in pillow cases). Bathtub chipped and stained. Only two towels, on face cloth and one hand towel. All of this for almost $ 200 a night — some deal!

Take back the first review, still a bit run down but absolutely can’t beat the location, beds super comfortable, and the free parking with the location is incredible, we’re addicted. WILL NEVER STAY ANYWHERE ELSE IN AUBURN. Already locked in for all games next year.

I can’t in good conscience say this place is a «good deal,» but it has its benefits. I’ll start with the good. Location. For the price (outside of football season), you simply won’t find better. It is what I would call «yelling distance» from Toomer’s and anything on campus is an easy walk. There is also a fridge and microwave (bonus?). So if your only concern is location and/​or price, you need not read further. This is the place for you. If you are a more discerning consumer, beware… this place might shake your foundations. Though the web site touts «recent renovations,» the only thing new in the room appears to be the tile floor in the bathroom and maybe the carpet. The rest of the furnishings are a mis-​matched hodgepodge of apparent hand-​me-​downs from other hotel chains. I clearly recognize the Best Western curtains… The tub has rust stains and the tiling in the bathroom is nothing short of hilarious — a 70’s-era yellow up to head height and then a tan motif with crimson accents above that. Oh, and the floor is emerald green! Clearly the «renovation» materials were picked based on what was on sale that day. Or probably whatever was being given away. The ceiling apparently used to be a tiled material, but a poor attempt was made to seal and paint it. The seams are clearly visible and there are many gaps, giving it that pop-​up tile look from grade school. The air conditioner is an 80’s vintage wall unit. No control of temperature other than fan, heat, or cold. That being said, it worked, though some buttons were missing and I wasn’t confident the rheostat actually had any effect. The beds… well, they’re standard fare for a 1-​star hotel — bring your own pillow if you can and a sleeping bag might not be a bad idea, either. I hate to bash the place because it suited my needs, but it’s painfully obvious that this place needs some TLC. Such a great location, too…

I can’t give this place 5 stars because it really is a dump. I enjoyed my stay, the rooms were fine and the location was great! You are literally downtown so I’ll look past the cleanliness of the room. But the bed was comfortable enough and the A/​C worked great. The lady at the front desk was nice. But if you are looking for a 5 star hotel then this isn’t it. The bathroom was a little dirty, light took a minute to work properly, carpet looked nasty and the TV stand had water stains on it like it was very old. Anyway, none of this matters to me, location location location. And the price is great! Don’t forget that!

I’ve been meaning to write a review for this place for quite some time. When I was taking a trip from Charlotte to New Orleans we were looking for a cool place to stay on the first ¹⁄₃ of our trip and Auburn seemed to be the perfect place. (Auburn is a great college town if you are in the city center — pure strip mall hell elsewhere)
The location of this place can’t be beat. It’s right in the thick of things and you can walk to the school or the downtown stores and bars within seconds, not even minutes.
Some people complained about the sanitation and whatnot on other sites, which made me quite worried to stay here. LUCKILY everything in our room was totally clean and fine. If you were to get a bad room, the people who run the place seemed nice enough that I’m pretty sure that they’d change rooms for you. Totally on par with most of your average chain motels.
The building is fairly old and looks a little rough when you are arriving at night, but like I already said — it was clean and the people were nice. They even have some coffee and orange juice for you in the AM. The prices are extremely reasonable and let you stay right in the heart of town without spending an arm and a leg. I did take some pictures which I’ll upload if I work up the motivation.
