History
Established in 2008.
In its spirit, its style, its restaurants, and its lounges, the Chelsea celebrates its historic home – both the seaside resort town of Atlantic City. The Chelsea was formerly the Holiday Inn Atlantic City-Boardwalk and the adjacent Howard Johnson Hotel Atlantic City, which was originally a kosher hotel owned by the Teplitzky family. One of the many ways the Chelsea pays homage to its heritage is its premier special-event venue, the Crystal Ballroom, named for the Howard Johnson’s ballroom that once occupied its space. The Crystal Ballroom’s chandelier are bejeweled with refurbished crystals from the ones that once hovered over revelers here, while the terrazzo floors were made by regrinding original flooring materials. The hotels that formerly occupied the Chelsea’s home had four taps in every room delivering hot and cold fresh water and hot and cold salt water. That history is reflected in the saltwater-inspired Sea Spa with its outdoor saltwater pool.
