History
Established in 1897.
After a building collapse in 1895 and a railroad accident in 1896, concerned citizens in Atlantic City decided the time had come for Atlantic City to have a hospital. The Atlantic City Hospital Association was incorporated on April 8, 1897.
They purchased a white house on Ohio Avenue for $ 16,000 and converted it into a hospital. The newly formed Ladies Auxiliary collected $ 616 for furnishings. The hospital hired one full-time doctor, Clyde M. Fish, M.D., of Jefferson Medical College.
In November of 1898, the Atlantic City Hospital officially opened its doors. The first patient was 11-year-old Gussie Johan, who had a broken leg. From that day forward, Atlantic City Hospital (now AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center — City Campus), has cared for the residents and visitors of southeastern New Jersey.
