W Atlanta – Midtown

If I could give a negative star also I would! This is a hotel that my husband and I use while we are traveling to see our son in college.
The evening that the young lady, Michelle H., is referring to is also a night I will never forget and also the last time I will patron this hotel. **Be Careful Single Ladies**
As we arrived this evening, Sat., Jan. 23, 2016, we had the regular pleasant experience. Returning to our rooms from getting baggage out of our car, she WAS encountered by the security guy. She «blew him off». My thoughts were that he was unprofessional and it was inappropriate for the hotel staff to make guest feel unsafe. I thought about her and told my husband about the situation.
We were leaving out of our rooms to go for a late dinner and found that she was back in the lobby standing on the couch SCREAMING!
There was a RAT in the lobby!!! Yes RAT. A BIG RAT!!!
WE took the nearest EXIT and checked out early that morning.
Be aware single ladies of this place…

2. for the outrageous RATS!!!

At downtown of Atlanta and I was a fan of this hotel. Super clean, my room was very decorated in a modern-​feel and the snacks were placed very attractively haha. The service was amazing and the people were super nice — definitely want to stay here again!

Probably the best location for hotel in Midtown Atlanta. Wonderful views of Piedmont Park from the rooms. Walking distance to great restaurants, museums, and shopping. Front desk agents are very friendly! They are currently under renovation and can not wait to see the changes they make to the property.

Booked an «upgraded» room (i.e., «spectacular») for an extra $ 15 to have a King with views of Piedmont Park and Midtown. Almost 100% certain our «king» was a queen. Also, lighting in room did not work. Very unfortunate, considering I asked for a complimentary upgrade (beneficial for the week between Christmas and New Years), and they declined to give any without an extra fee. Hardly worthy of a luxe rating. If you want real luxe, go to Mandarin, Ritz at Buckhead or St. Regis.

Stayed here for 3 nights. It’s a beautiful hotel, just very dark. By dark, I mean the lobby is dark, like a night club. Also, the room was very dark, even with all the lights and tv turned on! But the service was great and the house keepers were awesome.
I loved their «Bliss» branded facial wash and other included toiletries. The complementary coffee (starting @6:30am each morning) was good. I didn’t try the Trace restaurant.

Three stars for the food situation. The quality is pretty good for a hotel, but I’ve been here 5 times now for 2 – 4 day stays, and there’s a solid 25+ minute wait for everything you order, from room service to the Trace restaurant.
This evening room service said my appetizer would arrive in only 10 minutes; haven’t heard anything in 30 minutes. I would have gone to sleep.
The length of time it takes to get breakfast at Trace is worse though — you need to give a full hour for breakfast (even something basic like pancakes for one person) or you’ll be laaaate for any meetings.
Ps — I woke up twice between 2am-​4am from loud noises in nearby hotel rooms. Not fun :/

Beautiful hotel but as soon as you look to closely you will be very disappointed.
At first glance we were excited to stay in such a nice place but that was quickly stifled when we were greeted with a $ 34 valet parking charge with no option for self parking at the hotel. Seriously? I’m staying in this hotel and parking isn’t even included in the price? I just doubled the cost of my car rental.
Traveling with a 2 year old we were excited to see a refrigerator in the room. Perfect! We can keep his food cold and won’t have to worry about any of it spoiling. Well open it up and it is filled to the brim with overpriced nonsense. We took out a few bottles of water and put them aside so we could fit his yogurt and milk in there.
A second look around the room revealed that we were basically staying in the middle of a small convenience store. Price tags on little items that I didn’t want every which way. Anxiety kicks in… How am I going to keep my 2 year old away from all this junk? So the rest of our relaxing weekend was making sure no one touches anything in the room. Awesome.
Our first night we lay down to go to bed and… Thump, Thump, Thump… Aparently we were right above the hotel night club and all you could here is the bass pounding through the floor. Fantastic.
Not my personal experience but worth noting two of the other people in our party had to change rooms for noise problems and one said that when they checked in their room was filthy so they had to change rooms as well. Maybe we were just a bunch of annoying people?
We put everything back in the refrigerator, drag our bags down 5 flights of stairs since we couldn’t get an elevator for nearly 30 min (only 2 of the 4 elevators seemed to be running) and get our expensively parked car and finally head home.
When we get home I get my updated invoice… $ 10.54 charge for mini bar…
After all the constant vigilance to make sure we didn’t even come close to any of it.
At this point I email them back and tell them it’s a mistake and they say I have to all an accounting department or something of the sort and I decide right then and there «I’ll pay the $ 10.54 to never deal with these guys again»

Very cool lobby, great location and beneficial shuttle service — and I like the brand and am a loyal SPG member. However, I was warned that this property is a bit rundown and now understand and agree with the feedback. Everything seems beat up, from the stained hall carpet to my broken window shade. Not to mention the jacked up headboard in the accompanying photos. The worst W property I’ve visited. Here for four nights and will likely never return.

It’s very dark– a mix between a nightclub and Lady Gaga’s living room? Patrons are there to party. Escorts, drug deals, and a very interesting crowd. At 9:30 I headed up in the elevator with my boss, who was propositioned for a threesome with our other elevator riders as they struggled to keep their footing. This didn’t seem to be a rare occurrence at the W given the rest of the crowd, the missing lightbulbs in my room lamps, and the provided condoms. Although I felt like I had to do practically everything in the dark (getting ready at night and in the morning), the Bliss products can’t go unmentioned. Love.
We ate at the Living Room. My salad with shrimp and balsamic was good and my boss seemed to enjoy her burger. Tasty fries– get extra ketchup. The servers were innocently forgetful, but not frustratingly so. They had a limited late night menu without many healthy or vegan/​vegetarian options. Beer choices weren’t bad but were not to be bragged about. Terrapin in Atlanta is always a good choice.
This hotel is for someone (Lady Gaga, is that you?), but I’m not sure it’s for me. It may be a fun venue for an event.

This is the literal worst W Hotel I have ever seen or stayed at.
About half the elevators were not working for my entire stay. Sometimes there were signs, sometimes it just took 5 – 15 minutes before a working elevator made it to my floor. Sometimes the elevators opened slowly with a creepy sound that I swear said «help, I’m dying.» Blasting terrible music in the elevators and using creative lighting is far less important to me than, you know, functionality. On my last day, NO elevators were functioning, and I had to take the stairs to leave the hotel. When I and others approached the staff to ask what was being done, they refused eye contact and wouldn’t give a direct answer.
In addition, my room had a dresser with missing hardware, a peeling headboard, an electrical outlet that looked like it started on fire when the previous guest used it, a non-​functioning bathroom fan, a desk chair with bent legs, and lamps that did not work until I wiggled the wires and lightbulbs around. The shade on the large window also came off its tracks literally the first time I pulled on it. (Thankfully I was able to fix that myself, too.)
I stayed here for a business trip and have asked my company to remove the W from our approved hotels list. No one in our large group had a positive experience.

Not surprised this place only has 3 stars.
So far this hasn’t been a great experience. My flight was delayed, when I showed up this morning I didn’t have a room. I’ve been waiting in the lobby for almost 3 hours now. I brought the problem up with management who basically acted like they didn’t care. When I told them I was going to look into staying at another hotel it didn’t seem to bother her one bit

The hotel is supposed to be modern, hip, … The style is very functional with bare walls, concrete floors, … The rooms are functional but relatively bare with strange shelves. The rooms are OK but they are starting to show the sign of time. Our refrigerator had a broke shelf. The bathroom door was seriously scratched, everything indicated poor maintenance.
The staff at the front desk is great and very helpful. They do their best to make it a great guest experience. The bars /​restaurants on the 2 – 3 floor are funky and very noisy but very popular on a Saturday night.
They have a wide selection of alcohol in the room — tequila, vodka, whiskey, … but there is no coffee maker. Strange choice.
Given the prices charged by W I had a significantly higher expectation.

This visit, the desk agents were courteous and quick. When there was a line, they added another person.
Service at the Living Room bar was mostly excellent, although at one point it was very slow despite the place not being very busy. When it’s not busy, it seems the servers spend a lot of time shooting the breeze with each other instead of taking care of customers.
The elevators are a mess. Once again, two were out of order and they dedicated one to only taking guests up to a private party. At one point, there were more than 30 people waiting for an elevator while one sat there empty because it was limited to people going to the private party.
At check-​in, my bathroom wasn’t as clean as it should have been. There was some kind of gunk, it looked like soap or toothpaste, on one of the faucet handles at the sink and there was soap residue visible on the one of the shower walls.
The location is terrific, which may be the reason they continue to get away with being very sub-​standard for a W.
My last visit, I wrote:
I wonder why I stayed here again. This visit was even worse than my previous stay. The convenient location isn’t worth the poor service.
At least this time the parking valets were quick and helpful.
But, I arrived about 8pm and there were four people ahead of me at check-​in and only one clerk. The person being helped at the desk was an airline pilot who was checking out but had some problem with his bill that was taking a long time to resolve. After almost ten minutes, a second clerk came out and started checking people in.
Two of the five elevators were out of service. There was a large conference group. It took almost 10 minutes for me to get an elevator up to my room. Coming back down was even worse. Two of the working elevators were express only to the Altitude meeting space on the top floor. There were operators who would over-​ride the express setting and take guests to their floor going up. But going down, there appeared to be only one elevator available. It was a wait of more than 15 minutes to get to the lounge after I dropped my bags in my room. All told, I arrived a little after 8pm but by the time I got checked-​in, got an elevator going up, dropped my bags in my room, and got an elevator heading down, it was nearly 9pm.
The servers in the Living Room were nice, but service was slow due to a combination of disorganization and the bartender apparently not being able to chat and make drinks at the same time.
I ordered a club sandwich, which was pretty good – although I thought it a bit strange that bacon on a club sandwich cost an extra three dollars. To me, that was like charging extra to get a sandwich with bread. It came fries but was delivered with no napkins and no ketchup. Of course, by the time I was able to get ketchup the fries were cold.
However, the bar service was excellent on Friday evening. Vickie is a terrific bartender. She made great mojitos. The other bartenders the rest of my stay, not so good.
The first time I tried to log on to the Internet in my room, I got an error message stating that I had exceeded the number of allowable devices. I had to call tech support. It was eventually resolved but was one of those things that should have been right the first time.
When I brushed my teeth the first night I discovered the sink was clogged. Maintenance fixed it the next day after I reported it to the front desk. But, it was another thing that should have been right the first time.
The rooms are nice, standard for a W Hotel. Housekeeping (or «room stylists») was good.
However, the bottom line is that I cannot recommend this hotel.

Everything that glitter isn’t gold! I think this place needs a serious facelift and update. The décor is really nice and there’s a great ambiance but the rooms are crap!
I think I’d have a better nights sleep in public housing. I’m really considering sticking with Kimpton Hotels. W hotel, seriously, step your game up.

One thing I enjoy about staying in a hotel is a nice clean room daily. This is my final stay at this hotel. For the past 3 visits my rooms has not been cleaned during my stay.
On this three night stay my room was not cleaned. After the first night I had to chase housekeeping down to clean my room.
On the 2^nd night I returned to the room at 6 PM to once again find the room not cleaned. I called to ask for the room to be cleaned. I was told it was after «cleaning hours» and was offered fresh towels and the garbage taken out
I returned back at 1 AM to find the room untouched. This hotel needs to learn how to treat Platinum guest. Well any guest for that matter!
As I was checking out I stripped the bedding off the bed. (I always like to help housekeeping out) and was shock at what I found …

The W in Midtown is a nice hotel. The rooms were great, the interior has an interesting/​modern design, and the staff is very friendly, including the valet.
Be aware that this is a young hotel. When we rolled in at 11pm on a Friday night the place was very active with a younger/​club ready crowd. I felt extremely under dressed in my jeans when checking in for the weekend!
But this was nothing compared to the questionable clientele actually staying at the hotel. We were on the 6^th floor not far from the elevator and 98% of our stay our floor smelled STRONGLY of marijuana. It hit you like a punch in the face as soon as you got off the elevator. The first night we stayed there was a group of guests in a yelling argument outside of our door at 5am. I could hear every word they were saying and it was not a G rated fight either. I almost called the front desk it was that loud and disruptive. Luckily they stopped after about 10 minutes.
Despite the guests, I really liked the floor to ceiling windows and how the room was laid out. It was very nice. I wish the valet wasn’t $ 34.00 a day, but since we were downtown they claimed it was comparable to other garages nearby.

I live in Atlanta but had to stay in a hotel while my house was being worked on. If you’re traveling to Atlanta, the W sits in a great location in Midtown– a block away to Atlanta’s Piedmont Park (akin to NYC’s Central Park), a few blocks from public transit (Arts Center Marta stop), the High Museum and Woodruff Arts Center, the big clubbing area (Crescent Ave), and a lot of quality restaurants.
The hotel itself is kind of Vegas-​ish. Trendy and chic with feel good pop and electronica music being pumped through the hotel.
The rooms themselves are okay. You could tell the hotel was older and had some wear to it.
If you’re driving, parking isn’t that great. $ 34 for overnight parking and everything is valet only. You can self park at Colony Square for cheaper but you’ll need to haul your stuff up as this isn’t apart of the hotel.
We also had our pets with us. The pet fee is stupid expense ($ 100 for the first night, and $ 25 per night after that). They will provide you with a cat litter box which is super nice. They have a list of pet amenities on their website. The good news is, there’s good green space around the hotel, at least relative to other intown hotels, so you can walk your dog. There’s also an unleashed dog park in Piedmont Park if you don’t mind the walk.
Overall, the hotel was okay. Good amenities but for the money, I’d look elsewhere.

Incredible service and lovely rooms. There is a club on the second floor so be warned. The club is thumping, thumping.
Valet is pricey but it goes with the territory. Pet friendly for an extra $ 25. Our suite was well kept, very large with great expansive views. I was traveling for business and had many odd special requests that the staff didn’t bat an eye at and accommodated.

I haven’t stayed at this hotel before, but the rooms seems clean and decent with the usual offerings that the W provides: modern décor, fun snacks, and on-​site lounges/​restaurants that don’t disappoint.
My only gripe is valet. Valet is always convenient, BUT it took forever for them to bring my car to me when I was ready to leave. I parked there for about 3+ hours and was charged $ 20. There was probably other parking nearby that was cheaper, but honestly, I didn’t mind. It probably took them about 15 minutes to retrieve my car. I don’t mean to sound princessy when I say I expect it in no more than 10 min.
There’s really no reason for me to stay at this hotel, but I’d recommend it. You can try to walk to places, but it’s in a safe part of town to make you feel like you’re in the city.

Came here for work, and wasn’t the least bit disappointed about it. This was my first time coming to the ATL, so I was definitely excited to see what the city had to offer whenever I had any downtime at all (which sadly wasn’t all the often, as business trips are just that… primarily for business).
Anyway back to the «W». This a great hotel, especially for someone my age (23), and who appreciates the many modern amenities this place has to offer, such as:
–Huge, well-​equipped gym that’s open ²⁴⁄₇ **major plus**
–Convenient Midtown location with lots of nearby dining options
–FOOD ALL DAY. In addition to the great in-​house hotel options, there is a flyer you can pick up at the concierge desk that has a 20-​deep list of restaurants in Midtown Atlanta that are within WALKING distance. Clutch.
–Solid, free internet that actually works (trust me, that’s never a given)
One really good thing I noticed — there are outlets… EVERYWHERE. Nuff said.
On the flipside, a few not-​so-​good things I noticed:
–Rooms aren’t very well lit (perhaps an attempt to be trendy?)
–Towels/​robes suck. Also the sheets aren’t that «plush» and comfortable here, at least relative to other comparable hotels.
But, to me, that’s small stuff. I’ll be honest, the gym sold me instantly, and the ridiculous amount of food options here is just an added bonus. If it was up to me, I’d gladly come back here anytime I’m ever in the ATL.

Das Hotel macht einen sehr modernen und stylischen Eindruck. Es ist sauber und das Personal (vor Ort) sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Die Lage im Herzen von Atlanta ist super und die MARTA Station ist in der Nähe. Außerdem sind es nur wenige Meter zum Piedmont Park, der zu jeder Jahreszeit was zu bieten hat.
Leider wurde eine Reklamation von mir im Nachhinein, nicht beantwortet, trotz Anruf und Email. (Ich hatte etwas im Hotel vergessen).
Fazit: Das Hotel ist empfehlenswert!
