Village Animal Clinic

Did the first visit on this place, and I see this is an expensive place. No more going back. $ 120 for the blood panel and $ 70 for the anti itching (I could done this with Benadryl), $ 40 for shampoo (should be no more than $ 15), $ 40 to clear yeast (should be no more than $ 25), and doctor’s visit charge, all together the total costs $ 340.00. The doctor refused to give medicine unless I spent for the blood panel even if I told her he had been on the same medicine before. I think If I can’t cure his condition, there is no need to spend money at the expensive place. I got to find a cheapest place possible to just find some relieve (not cure) on his condition. I am glad I turned down allergy test for $ 180.00, which wont’ give any hope of finding what’s wrong with him unless I take him to the allergy specialist, then, still no solution unless I commit to different allergy shots for the rest of his life. My search for the place that I can trust continues.

If I could rate the vet techs and the veterinarians separately in this review, I would. The techs would get 5 stars, Drs. Mayberry and Pumphrey would get 3 (based on my very, very limited interaction with them), and my most frequent vet, Dr. Winter, would get 1. Unfortunately, I can’t keep justifying going to Village Animal Clinic when it’s the techs I like and trust, and not my actual veterinarian.
I was using this vet for my greyhound for the past year+, because the vet techs were so great and so patient with him. He has lots of social anxiety and lots of medical issues, so he takes more than your average level of patience to deal with; but now I have moved on to a new veterinarian clinic, where the techs are just as nice and patient, but my regular veterinarian is actually competent, caring, and knowledgeable.
My first warning sign with this clinic was that they don’t take appointments; this can be viewed as convenient since you’re not held to a specific time, but it also means you’re at the luck of the draw to see one of the three rotating veterinarians. Somehow every time I’ve visited this vet with my dog, I always get Dr. Winter. Maybe she’s great at her job with other animals, but my experience with her has always been negative. She has little to no bedside manner, always answered my questions with non answers in a roundabout way, or said she would look up the answer and then never did, and she always spoke to me in a very condescending fashion. The occasion that put the nail in the coffin for me was when I brought my dog in after his third seizure, dealt with Dr. Pumphrey, who was at least willing to answer my questions more straightforwardly than Dr. Winter, and was told someone would call me the next day to follow up once the blood panels were back. The person who called me was Dr. Winter… and she hadn’t even opened the chart before reaching out to me. She’d had no idea my dog had a seizure, tried to convince me it wasn’t a seizure («Are you sure he wasn’t just a little weak and had a dizzy spell?» FYI no, it was a grand mal seizure, check the chart!) After a 20 minute phone call of her repeatedly saying «Umm I don’t know. oh, now I see it in the chart,» I was so furious that I called the clinic to request my dogs records, in case I decided to find a new vet.
After that, she called me to apologize and asked me not to leave the clinic. I appreciated the apology, but I couldn’t continue to justify leaving my dog’s health in the hands of a woman who, after a year of treating my dog, still had built up no rapport with me, had no concept of my dog’s medical history, and could only bring herself to admit fault when she thought she would lose business — and over the year, I had brought them a lot of business.
It’s been more than two months since I stopped using Village Animal Clinic, and thinking about my last few months there still makes me angry. The bottom line is — if your pet needs grooming, or a nail trim, or is already in pretty good health, and this location is close to you, and you hate the concept of making appointments, go ahead and visit this clinic. Otherwise, run away. Far, far away.

Village animal clinic is a very accessible clinic. You can walk in whenever you like, which was super convenient for me when my cat started having allergies and needed to be seen. They were able to do blood work that day and called me with the results the following day. Overall, I had a great experience here they were quick and friendly.

We’ve taken our pets to this clinic since 2002, and the staff is extremely nice; save for a woman who worked the front desk that had the personality of a pissed off cat. She may be gone at this point however.
That said, I have grown concerned that as opposed to actually treating my 10 year old dog, the plan is to squeeze out the next visit/​test, etc, and the associated fee’s. My dog has hypothyroid, and the vet keeps having us come back for more «tests», and adjustments to meds. He’s not getting any better, and only getting worse despite running blood and urine test after blood and urine tests. Same thing, over and over. And at a minimum of $ 90 a pop for one of the «cheap» tests, plus the cost for the office visit, combined with absolutely no improvement in my dog’s health; I have become extremely skeptical towards this vet that we’ve entrusted the health of our pets to.
I’ve alerted them to no change in my dog, lumps that have shown up at certain places, and the occasional bloody nose (which is becoming more frequent), only to be told, «lets run some more tests». The response always being the same, «lets adjust his meds».
I really want to give this outfit five stars since we’ve used them for so long; but I now see that little care is actually being applied to the care for my dog. It has really become all about squeezing out the fee’s for the next set of tests, and selling the exorbitantly expensive meds.
