The National Society of High School Scholars

Honestly if I could give it zero stars I would. They sent me a letter. It seemed like it was legit because they had handwritten my name and address on the envelope. They ask $ 60 for a «lifetime membership» and you get exclusive scholarships or whatever.
You shouldn’t need to pay money to get a scholarship. It’s a total scam and honestly a huge waste of money and time. I’m sure they send these «exclusive» letters to every kid that has 3.0+. It seems as though they’ve obtained my information through college board which I approved for, but I wasn’t expecting this nonsense.
They offer prestigious ribbons and medallions for high school graduation. I’m sure it’s another scam. They make money off of the people that like to boast that they were invited in some exclusive club. Again DO NOT SEND THEM MONEY. I repeat DONUT SEND DEM DINERO.

Just received their invitation. No Honors Society charges a $ 60 fee for lifetime membership. This is a SCAM!

I don’t necessarily would say this is a scam, but I do think they are overselling their product. There is quite a disparity between what they take in for income vs what they give out for scholarships, Like many others have posted, you shouldn’t have to pay for a scholarship. In the trash it goes (it is creepy how much they know about our kids though)

My daughter also received their slick mailing today. It’s very cleverly designed to trick unsuspecting people into thinking they’ve won a true honor. Scam artists, pure and simple. This isn’t the first such pitch we’ve received from fly-​by-​nighters like this. What really angers me, however, is how they get our kids’ contact info, not to mention school record. I intend to dig into this matter with the College Board and our school and register a strong complaint.

DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY! I got a letter from them today. I was really excited since I have a high GPA and I have a lot of achievements in high school. On the front it was hand-​written with my name and address. It looked serious and real until I opened it and saw I had to pay. No way! Im glad I looked on Unilocal to see this is a total scam. This company should be shut down.

We got our letter and I’m glad I looked for reviews. My child takes AP classes, (we pay extra for this) I guess that puts us on some mailing list. We get quite a bit of mail from US schools directed at our child, but we’re not in the States. I don’t know how my child could qualify for a ‘National Society’

I am a high school senior who has worked very hard towards my goal of getting into Clarkson University for Mechanical Engineering. I’ve challenged myself by taking all of the advanced math and science classes, along with the standard technical skills and CAD classes. My junior year, I came home to a letter from this organization. I read it and found it a little weird that they addressed me by my full name and went into detail about my classes. Apparently I was recommended by one of my teachers, which was a complete lie because I asked around. I then saw the bumper sticker. It was one of those cocky, annoying «My child is better than yours because s/​he is an honor student» stickers. That was it! Red flag! I was NOT going to be part of something like this. I threw out the invitation to apply. Shortly after, they emailed me. Great. They were one of those organizations. I ignored everything they sent me. I then didn’t hear from them for a while– that is, until the cult leader herself emailed me telling me it was now or never to apply. I had had enough, and I made that very clear. I sent the nastiest email to them in the most civilized manner possible. I pointed out how downright rude they came across, and the fact that I could take it as harassment considering they only care about making money off of OUR achievements. I demanded to be removed from their mailing list and to never be contacted again because of the fact that I never gave them permission to contact my personal email address. Yes, they probably got it from the College Board, I get it, I just wanted to make them look like terrible people (which they do pretty well themselves already.) After that was sent, the wait began. About a week later, the cult leader replied. She was very defensive because it apparently wasn’t obvious why a high school «scholar» wouldn’t put 2 and 2 together to figure out it was a scam. She was quite short and very inconsiderate to me, but whatever. Parents beware, this is the biggest mistake that you can make, and it could possibly cost you thousands in the long run.

I hope others research this company, unfortunately I did not and dropped $ 60 on a group that does nothing and is in no way similar to the Nation Honors Society, that extra S doesn’t mean scholars, it stands for scam. Stay away from this for-​profit company.

Like PT Barnum said «There’s a sucker born every minute», and apparently they’re preying on them to stay in business.

My minor child received this literature today. They mention the name of her school, insinuating someone from her school referred her, not true. This is an unsolicited offer to a minor and correspondence with a minor — something has to be illegal here. Is this mail fraud? My next step may include my attorney general’s office. Is there an attorney in the house?
I just finished filing a complaint with the Atlanta BBB, where NSHSS has an «A+» rating.
Please do not confuse this establishment with the National Honor Society — completely different. I really want to see these leeches put out of business. I know salt gets rid of slugs, what gets rid of leeches? Please take the time to file a complaint like I did!

Way to burst a kids bubble. I came home from work today, my daughter, super excited about this lovely expensive packet that arrived in today’s mail… we looked it over and thought it sounded great, until I saw they were asking for money. Then I got online… enough said… very disappointed that someone would use teenagers excitement about an honor as a way to scam money.

I run the National Honor Society at our school. Every year I have to contend with a group of students who think they are a member of NHS because they paid to be part of this. Most of these students do not have the GPA to get an invite to NHS, let alone did all of the work (over 125 volunteer hours a year) in order to be a full member. I hate that this company exists!
They give you a certificate that means NOTHING to colleges for a fee. They say that they offer all sorts of things, but nothing has ever panned out. It’s a shame that they prey on low-​income students and offer them crap.

This is a scam, my child has a 3.3 GPA and she needs to be a 4.0 or higher to be recognized. This company should be out of business. Seriously, «Mr. Nobel» as in the Nobel Peace Prize? This so called company is trying to take advantage of minority families who do not know better and would pay the money to have their child become a member. Please people, if your child has 4.0 or higher, have him or her talk to their academic counselor or principal in their high school. They will recognize your child’s accomplishments and will help him or her get the scholarships they need to have a great education, for FREE!
On the Positive side, it has encouraged my child to try harder in high school in the fall.

You PAY to be a part of this «honors society». We got a letter for our high school senior to join the NSHSS, and while he has a stellar GPA (over a 4.0) it is better to join one’s own high school honors society, if there is one. NO college will refuse to accept you for not being a member of the NSHSS. In fact, I have read comments from others who had a low GPA at the time they were «invited» to join the NSHSS! What a joke! Show colleges you aren’t gullible and be a part of real activities, honors societies, and volunteer your time to real causes. THAT will make you stand out.
I find it exceedingly suspicious, too, that the NSHSS has NO reviews at the time I write this. Really? A «national honors society» with no honest reviews? I suspect mine won’t even stay up beyond a day or two. Posted 3÷27÷14.
