The Little Cake Bakery

Tried the salted caramel, carrot cake, Guinness today. For all of the cakes, I’m not a fan of butter cream and this icing was on the greasier side. It was very soft, buttery, and sweet. Which might be a good thing for some folks, for me it was just too rich. Also the carrot cake icing tasted like cream cheese blended into the buttercream, rather than a true cream cheese frosting.
The cakes though were some of the better I’ve tried. The salted caramel, was like a flavor explosion. There a lot of salted caramel fakes out there, but this was true salted caramel and a moist chocolate cake. The carrot cake was very rich, spicy, and extremely moist. The Guinness cake, was a bit of a let down, I’ve made this at home and it can be moister than the cake I had today. The red velvet cake itself was okay, but again the icing was not cream cheesy enough.
Overall, a very solid performer in the cupcake scene if Atlanta, just wish the icing wasn’t so heavy.

I tried this place this week due to Scoutmob. I bought choc/​choc, vanilla/​vanilla and pumpkin spice cupcakes. All were very blah. Nothing special at ALL. Tastier cupcakes could be made out of a box. That $ 5 would have been much better spent at CamiCakes. CamiCakes cant be topped in Atlanta.

So update… after returning to the store to give them another chance, they definitely made up for the ‘not so good’ first impression. The cupcakes were soooo much better, the service was friendlier and more helpful. I’m not really sure what happened with the cupcakes the first time around, but glad that it’s gotten better (moist, tastier, and bigger). The price is fairly decent. I will continue to go back when in the area. Who says businesses like this can’t get a 2^nd chance?!? Lol. Good job and keep the service great!

Scoutmob drew me into this place and I was very excited to try a new place, but specifically, THIS place. I heard all the hype surrounding big, bad Gigi’s Cupcakes and heard Little Cake was the Buckhead underdog, which made me suddenly WANT to like it, love it, adore it, and not shut up about it to everyone who would listen.
Cupcake places are generally competitive — you would understand this just by watching an ad for Cupcake Wars. It’s a battle of aesthetics and flavor, so I wasn’t too miffed by the $ 3/​cupcake price. I also figured since it’s an underdog place, the fact that the décor was very…(sigh) uninspired should be of no concern. Sure, Gigi’s Cupcakes has a very fun, sexy look to it, but I judge a book by its content, not cover! That affirmation silently made, I decided not to take too much stock in the fact that if Soviet Russia ever had any cupcake stores, the insides likely modeled Little Cake Bakery. But no, as I AM HERE FOR THE CUPCAKES!
I ordered the Red Velvet (a flavor I love, and the cream cheese frosting is always promising), the Vanilla Chocolate, a Guinness cupcake, and two frosting shots. They were about 90 minutes from closing, so the selection was limited and much like Soviet Russia, the woman behind the counter didn’t smile or acknowledge us when we walked in. So you see, it really all came down to the cupcakes.
You can imagine my conflict when I bit into the Guinness cupcake and suddenly, no trace of enthusiasm was to be found on my tongue. The cupcake was dry, tasteless, and the frosting just felt like I was sloughing butter into my mouth. Ok, so maybe Guinness was too adventurous! Red Velvet will be better! After all, it’s GUARANTEED to taste good by sheer virtue of being Red Velvet! Excitedly, I took a bite of that cupcake. And sadly realized that it, too, was nothing more than cream cheese frosting (albeit delicious) on plain… cake. Plain tasteless cake, and nothing more. Friends, Red Velvet is not just cake dyed red! It is an experience of euphoria and contentment, whereupon the brain secretes serotonin and possibilities of world peace emerge. This cupcake, instead, provoked anger when I realized it was just cake that was dyed red. It LIED.
So I decided to try the Vanilla Chocolate, because how on earth can you fuck up something so simple? Let me tell you, folks — you fuck up the chocolate cake part by not trying! By making it dry, tasteless, and leaving you gagging for a drink.
Little Cake, I want to like you! I so do. But chemistry is so hard to generate when there is really nothing you can promise.

Ok, so I was lured here by Scoutmob (it’s not the 1^st time Scoutmob got me to try someplace new). We arrived about 15 minutes before they closed and literally there were like 5 cupcakes left. Not a big deal, it’s sort of what I expected being that it is a bakery and everything is expected to be made fresh. Anyhoo, I ordered from the options that we had and the cashier (may have been the owner, not quite sure) was nice enough to still give me the 50% off without actually using my Scoutmob coupon… Freaking Awesome! I was shocked that I really enjoyed their signature cake (Marie Antoinette). It’s a vanilla cake with a raspberry filling and I’m not too keen on fillings in my cakes… but WOW it was tasty! Tried a bite of the chocolate and it was average but very moist. Needless to say, I’ll be back and I still have my Scoutmob coupon to use!

The Marie Antoinette is my favorite cupcake in all of Atlanta! Little Cake is the David with Gigi’s across the street. This place is a tucked away gem.
The people who run this place are there and so friendly every time I go in.
Worth the price, in my opinion.
The cupcakes are all so yummy and they know the perfect frosting to cake ratio.

You seem like the underdog of cupcakes at this corner of Buckhead. Most customers in search of a cupcake would probably end up at Gigi’s Cupcake just across the street. Gigi’s has the bigger storefront, flashier décor, bigger cupcakes, and more wildly decorated frosting.
And yet, I prefer you Little Cake Bakery. Your unassuming storefront, tucked away in the nondescript strip mall, makes you seem like such a nice find. Your smaller cupcakes means they’re easier to hold without the frosting toppling over. Your more modest, but still beautiful frosting, means I don’t feel like I’m eating raw sugar every time i take a bite.
Your flavors are wonderful too. I’ve tried Cookies N Cream, Smores, Apples and Honey, Coconut, Marie Antoinette, and Red Velvet. (Yes, I came on a Saturday) While they were all good, the stand outs were Apples and Honey and Smores.
I hope to visit you again soon Little Cake Bakery! And, you know, if you want to do a Groupon discount again so that I can enjoy free cupcakes, well, that’s cool too.

It’s true… This is as good as it gets. I understand that the cupcake here are a lot smaller than other places but I don’t mind because I really do not need anymore help gaining weight. To me it’s the perfect size with the perfect amount of frosting… bigger does not always mean better. Since I got a coupon for a dozen of cupcakes as a gift I decided to try all the flavor that they have that day. I also gave some away to my cousin and Andy L. and they love it. Just so you know although my cousins are 2 and 3 years old they are pretty tough food critic, and Andy L… well he’s a guy that does not like sweets but he loves the cupcakes here.
Must Try: (This list is in the order of tastiness… not that the bottom of the list is not good it’s just relative tot he ones that I try that day)
Vanilla/​Vanilla – Pure Madagascar bourbon vanilla cake topped with vanilla frosting.
Marie Antoinette-​Vanilla cake with a raspberry center, European buttercream and home-​made crushed almond toffee on top.
Coconut –Coconut cake frosted with cream cheese and topped with shredded coconut. (Also available with Chocolate cake.)
Carrot Cake – Traditional carrot cake topped with a classic, rich cream cheese frosting.
Red Velvet-​Red velvet cake made with Valrhona cocoa topped with traditional cream cheese frosting.

I should do myself a favor and stop trying cupcake places — it’s dangerous! I really wouldn’t turn away any cupcakes, but I was not a fan of their signature Marie Antoinette flavor. I should have known that ahead of time because I do not care for raspberries or raspberry flavored things, but a coworker told me I’d just love it and bought one for me. I hate to be a Debbie Downer, so I gave in. It’s very… uh…raspberry-y and just not for me.
However, I also ordered the chocolate/​chocolate, vanilla/​vanilla, coconut, and the Elvis (peanut butter and chocolate, as if you couldn’t have guessed). I haven’t tried the Elvis or the coconut yet, but the chocolate and vanilla were quite good. Simple, but good. These cupcakes remind me of a more old– fashioned, family recipe with a very dense cake and homemade buttercream. They don’t sit like bricks in your belly, which made me happy, but I also felt like I could have eaten three of them! I’m sure yet another cupcake craving will be in my future…

I’ve been craving cupcakes for awhile so when I saw a living social deal for this place, I decided to purchase it. $ 13 for a dozen gourmet cupcakes. Not too bad since they are regularly priced at $ 2.50 each.
I decided to place my order online so I would be guaranteed the flavors I wanted. I didn’t receive any confirmation email after a few days so I had to email them again. After my second email to them, I finally received a response. Apparently they had been super busy so they weren’t able to get to my email right away. No biggie though because my order was placed and was ready for me when I came to pick them up.
The cupcakes here are a lot smaller than I expected them to be. They’re just regular sized cupcakes. The frosting to cake ratio is perfect though. The flavor of the cupcakes were ok. The cakes were moist for the most part. I got to try the following flavors:
Vanilla/​Vanilla-​eh. It’s vanilla.
Red Velvet-​eh. I like Gigi’s better
Coconut– delicious! I should’ve got more than just one. Very moist and tasty.
Marie Antoinette-​ok. I liked the almond toffee. I wish there was more raspberry filling to it.
Mocha Chocolate Chip-​eh
Peach Cobbler– moist and delicious.
Strawberry Champagne– ok.
I probably won’t be back.

I’ve had three of the cupcake flavors here: the red velvet, the apples and honey, and the Marie Antoinette (the latter is a vanilla cake with a raspberry filling, topped with buttercream and crushed almond toffee). It’s decent stuff, but it’s not great.
The flavors were good — creative options that vary by season and day of the week, light and creamy frosting, and cake that’s not cloyingly sweet. But at the same time, I wasn’t a huge fan of the texture of the cake itself, which I found to be a little stale and a little dry. I mean, it’s still better than a grocery store cupcake, but at $ 2.50 a piece, I think I’m allowed to be a critic.
The shop itself is in a depressingly generic Buckhead strip mall. The interior is dimly lit, and the employees seem a little glum. While there are a few tables inside, I imagine it’d be better to have your cupcakes boxed up to go.
Frosting shots are available for 50 cents a piece, if you’re into that kind of thing.

I’m definitely a fan of The Little Cake Bakery. Even though it is a little pricey, their icing is light and whipped. I usually don’t eat icing on cake, but I can definitely devour all the icing. With flavors like Cookies n Cream, Marie Antoinette, and Tres Leches. How can you go wrong? Their cake is light and fluffy.
Just thinking about it makes me want to splurge for a few this weekend.

Just came back from there because of the Scoutmob deal. I had the carrot cake cupcake, and my other coworkers had the Marie Antoinette, red velvet, and Samoa. They all LOVED them. I read some of the previous reviews and if they were hit or miss, then today they were a hit. Unfortunately, I wanted to try the flavors from the other days, but it was Friday, so I could only get what they had.
The carrot cake cupcake was delicious though and I’d definitely go back again!

What’s happened to the boutique cupcakes? I used to come here when they first opened and the cupcakes were really good fun treats. Haven’t been in awhile since I cut back on sweets.
Earlier this week, we picked up a dozen for a birthday since I had a Scoutmob discount. They were such a disappointment! They tasted dry, flavorless and had too much sugary icing. It was as if they were matching Gigi’s over the top icing down the road which I don’t care for at all. And the cake seemed like it was 2 – 3 days old. I would have done better at the grocery store or Costco for the same price as the Scoutmob.

What is going on? Pretty soon I am going to go on a self imposed cupcake ban, because I’m getting tired of disappointment.
Roaming around with my mom on Christmas Eve, we stopped in Little Cake for a «snack». The girl behind the counter was sorta listless and dry (much like the cupcakes, actually) and as we were pulling up she was getting out of a car and going back inside, so go figure. At any rate, she definitely wasn’t a plus for business.
They were out of german chocolate, which sucked… considering that my mom saw that written on the sign outside as a flavor of the day, and that’s why she stopped. She ended up with a vanilla cupcake with chocolate frosting. I, super adventurous one, went with the Marie Antoinette, which is their specialty mish mash of vanilla cupcake with raspberry filling, some vanilla buttercream frosting, an almond toffee crust type deal and a cherry. Not usually my style, but the eggnog looked dry and dull, and I knew I could get some of my moms, so…
bottom line: meh. cupcakes were dry, half filled and this is a little weird, tasted a little bit like sweet cornbread at first bite. Not a plus. On second bite the cornbread taste veered more towards vanilla, but the dryness was there to stay. Luckily, the Marie Mehtoinette had the dollop of some very yummy raspberry-​ness to add moisture, but I just wasn’t very moved. That almond toffee stuff was yummy though. If they had some of those 0.50 frosting shots with that on there, I’d get one… but I wouldn’t go out of my way.
I thought the cupcakes were really on the smallish side for 2.50. They didn’t taste yummy enough for me to want more of what I had, but I’m just saying… 2.50 was a rip. Presentation was nothing special either, on Friday they had a couple of cupcakes with some sprinkles on the side, the fancy Marie toffee crown and some others with just a standard piping of frosting. Not fancy at all. I mean, if the taste isn’t going to blow me away, they should at least be super beautiful to look at, no?

Plain and simple, this cupcake shop rocks all cupcake shops for one reason: the icing. Thanks to Scoutmob, I came back for more of these gems.
If you like that super sweet, sugar loaded, gobbed on icing that takes up 80% of the actual cupcake and puts you into diabetic shock, this place won’t be for you.
If you like to feel like you can still walk and properly function after eating a cupcake, look here. The icing is light, and only has a hint of sweetness to it, it doesn’t overwhelm you. That’s right, a non sweet cupcake.
Kudos to Little Cake for understanding it can’t be all Pixie Sticks and Fun Dip all the time…

I won’t give them five stars b/​c the owner doesn’t really do shit there anymore and the little cakes are a bit inconsistent. They need quality control in that bitch…
Other than that… it’s my go to place when wifey has cupcake pangs!

We came in after randomly seeing it next to baskin robbins. It’s a small hole on the wall shop. Anyway we got 2 carrot cake cupcakes since they were the special. Price was nice at only 2.50 each. The only other cupcake shop I have been to before this was Sprinkles Cupcakes in palo alto which was mindblowing, so my standards might be a bit high for cupcakes…
My experience here was only ³⁄₅ because though the cake part was tastey, the icing tasted pretty much just sugar. It was overwhelming enough to take away from the cakes taste. The cake part though was great. Soft, fluffy and fresh. I’d come back again to try out something else before making a judgement call. One thumb up!

Pleasure has its costs. 4 cupcakes. 10 bucks. Damn! But each morsel was delicious, delectable, snarf-​worthy.
