The Improv Comedy Club & Dinner Theatre

First of all, bravo to the people working last night’s event. You guys were all very friendly despite being overworked and seemingly understaffed (hence the extra star.) And it was a fun show! The comedians were hilarious as I expected they would be.
Now, onto the reason why I’m writing this review in the first place… We arrived at the venue about 6:45 (show was at 7:30). We had difficulties finding the venue. There was a line looping around the building. When we finally got to the front of the line, the lady responsible for seating saw we had VIP passes so she seated us behind these curtains. When the curtains were drawn back, we discovered we were seated behind a pole blocking our view of the stage and seated in the back of the venue. I asked, «what about the VIP seating that I paid extra for?» She said it was full now. But why would I be sold VIP passes if the VIP section had reached capacity? They justify this by posting in the terms and condition section of the ticket that «Ticket holders are not guaranteed entry. Entry will be given first-​come, first serve basis.» Why don’t you stop selling tickets if the event has sold out/​VIP section has reached capacity?! That just doesn’t seem right to me. Not to mention we were all packed into the venue like a bunch of sardines. Then we proceeded to order a «bucket of beer» where you receive 5 random beers. 25 minutes later we finally receive 4 lukewarm generic beers (Budweiser, Guiness, etc.) and then an O’Doul’s! An O’Doul’s! We grabbed our waiter’s attention and told him that we wanted actual beer and he was kind enough to grab us another beer (hence the extra star).
This experience was very disappointing and not the way I expected to ring in my new year. This place needs some sort of management overhaul.
Tips: do not waste your money buying VIP passes. You will get the same seating as general admission and the venue is small enough where you can see from anywhere (EXCEPT if you’re seated behind a massive pole like we were.)

Came to see Bryan Callen and Leo Flowers. We enjoyed it so much and super sad that this place will be torn down and replaced with condominiums :(So.where is this place going to be moved to?!?
Only negative: two drink minimums? why? :(Hopefully this won’t be a minimum requirement if this place is moved to a new location.

Worst comedy venue I’ve ever been to. Zero crowd control: people heckle and yell and talk all night, and they don’t do anything. Really terrible place… I’ll be avoiding it like the plague.

The improve was nice however jack o from Jack ass sucked … the non headliners were hilarious. …

I’ve only been here 1 time, so my review is based off of 1 good experience. My wife and I wisely parked our car at her office in Buckhead and took a $ 5 über ride over. The parking here is lousy, so it was worth it. Plenty of Über drivers in Buckhead, so it’s easy. Also, it’s not clear right away, but the Improv is upstairs in this building. The valet guys had to point it out, and they said they do it all night. Seating seems to be on a first come first serve, so if you want to be up front get there early. As for the venue itself, well it’s larger than I had expected. However the tables, narrower than expected. I’m tall and my knees kept hitting the stranger seating across from me. You can tell this is a well oil machine and they have their system down. It’s a two drink minimum (not uncommon in comedy clubs), beer was surprisingly fair in price. Water, surprisingly expensive in price. A bottle of water actually cost more than a bottle of beer. My wife saw the menu only had fancy cocktails, beer, wine and champagne. She wanted whisky, asked them what kind they had. The waiter was clueless. She asked for tullamore dew, the waiter said «we have Crown» She said «Jamieson?» He replied with «Um, i know we have Crown». She had to settle on the Crown Royal. There was so many people there I’d asked my wife «how are they going to get everyone’s bar tabs settled up and out of here, clean and have the next show. They pulled it off. They clearly have their systems in place. The show itself was great, the sound was good and we had a good time. When/​If we go again, I’ll still über it from somewhere. The parking lot was a mess of people afterwards.

The show was great! We saw Colin Jost (from SNL) and he was hilarious so no complaints there. The actual Improv Club though was far more disappointing. As other people have mentioned, there is a 2 drink per person minimum. This is in addition to what you pay for tickets. I think this is just sleazy. Also the food was highly disappointing. The menu options consisted of some appetizers, three sandwiches, and sushi. My husband and I got the nachos to split. The nachos were essentially a bag of tortilla chips dumped in a bowl with a slab of Gouda and three chunks of chicken.
The show was great but the Improv Club needs to step their game up if they want people to come back.

Just saw Chris Kattan. This was the worst show I’ve ever been to. My wife won free tickets and we bought 2 extra. All the comedians before Chris was terrible. We even asked the people around us if they thought it was at all funny and they said it was terrible. Chris came out and started naming all the stars he met as if we gave a crap. Half of his time was spend imitating a couple of people in the audience who asked him questions. they were funnier than him. The charge you for 2 drink minimum so be ready to spend another $ 20 min per person not including food. I realized that they are giving away free tickets especially to the early shows in order to make it look like its a full room to not embarrass the headliner. Then they break even or make some extra with drinks that are watered down. It was very disappointing and we will never go back there again.

I love how intimate this place is. It’s not very big so you have a great view of the comedian from where ever it is you’re sitting. My only complaint about it is that the service can be slow. The first time we were here, I felt bad for our waiter because he didn’t seem to have his orders and tickets together. His timing on handing out the checks was not great either. If our party wanted to we could have walked out and not pay since our waiter was no where to be found. We had to hunt him down to give him our payment.
The last time we were here our server was a bit better. But they really need to work on the timing and getting the food and drinks out on time. Also, there is a 2 drink minimum so it’s a bummer for non drinkers like me who prefer to drink just water.
Overall, I would go to this venue again.

Three words: Rockin’. ATL. Crowd! Hope the show is as good as the friendly, funny service!

So I just got home from the Kevin Smith show at the improv and while it was fantastic and he was hysterical and told some really good Johnny Depp stories and other great personal anecdotes about life… THE SERVICE THERE WAS FUCKING ABYSMAL… my buddy and I had to order drinks three times from the same waiter (who didn’t remember taking the order the first time cause he was like «sorry y’all got dumped on me what was your order») bullshit pal. You definitely took my order the first time… we also ordered food the first time we ordered drinks. About 45 minutes into the show we finally got our drinks. Thank Christ I had ordered two bud lights cause a reorder was out of the cards with this moron — Bran or Brand or Brad or whatever his dumbass was named… It honestly felt like they grabbed this dude off the corner threw him a black shirt and red tie and forced him to wait tables while they held his dog hostage or something cause the guy was out of it.meanwhile.the food (a supremely difficult order of A SIDE OF FRENCH FRIES) never showed up and the waiter straight to my face lied that it was on its way and how sorry he was (you got that right jerky) only to be informed when he shoved the bill down that the kitchen had been closed and we wouldn’t be receiving any food (JM wanted the trio special or something). His solution for this new debacle was to give us two complimentary passes to a future show at a value of $ 20 apiece even though the tickets I bought tonight we’re both $ 40 …and then had the fucking nuts to ring up the wrong beers. expensive IPAs .not the fucking cheapo Bud Light I ordered. I read the bill asked the waiter if the prices were the same cause he had put it in wrong and he said «yea it’s the same price» and walked away. I looked at the menu and the prices were not the same, 4 dollar bud lights vs. 5.50 ipa… I’ve had enough at this point and had completely lost focus on the show I paid 80 bucks to go see…20 minutes go by and I decide to go to the restroom, and by the time I had come back my buddy had paid the bill and the waiter was walking away, apparently the waiter told him they were closing out and we needed to settle up… my friend did not know about the error on the bill and just thought he was doing a solid and picking up the tabs as I had paid for the tickets. I told my friend they had the wrong beers on the bill and the price needed to be adjusted but it was too late he had already given the waiter 40, which I then figured we could correct the price when he returned with the change from 40 for a 31 dollar tab. THE FUCKING WAITER never came back with change. MOTHERFUCK THIS SHITHOLE. Then they briskly hurried everyone out immediately after the show and any type of management had long been gone to take up my grievances with… I won’t be going back… and I will tell everyone who is willing to listen what a terrible place the improv is to have a good laugh… But Kevin Smith was awesome. Yay.

Little (ok a lot) warm, but great spot for great comedy! Closest I’ve ever been to Kevin Smith in a Q&A and loved every minute of it. Service was decent, especially for the size crowd and could always get through to pop into the powder room :). Looking forward to checking it out again soon, bring Kevin Smith back and have it be an all-​nighter :)! Oh, valet parking that they validate when you pay your check, full bar and decent menu! The E Andrews spots have a shared kitchen, which includes an awesome sushi chef!

My boyfriend and I have visited The Improv twice recently. The first time was for the Undateable tour (we primarily went to see Chris D’Elia) and the second time was for an open mic night.
On our first visit, there was self parking available. the 2^nd time we had to valet. I thought it was odd that it was valet only for the open mic night but no big deal. we just had to tip the valet guy. Also on our first visit, the service was much better. There is a 2 drink minimum (with beers being cheaper around $ 5 and wine/​cocktails being closer to $ 10). For those who don’t drink, you pay $ 10 for a soda of your choice (free refills) or a $ 10 bottle of Voss/​Pelligrino (yikes!).
The seating is first come, first serve. On both visits, my date and I were able to get decent seats. Many of the tables have several seats, so you’ll probably be sitting with others unless you go with a big group.
First visit, no complaints. The show was funny, seats were decent, and service was fast.
For the open mic night, there are 10 – 15 local comedians that do 5 minute skits and there is a host who entertains the crowd in between. The host, Brent Star, was a character! He is a comedian that also does drag shows and was good at keeping the crowd interested between skits. Some of the comedians doing open mic had us laughing the whole time, others fell flat… but nevertheless we were able to laugh at the awkwardness.
I loved the open mic night, but service was awful. It took at least 10 minutes for a server to take our order… I got a beer, my date got a soda. The server came back 5 minutes later with my beer. no soda. finally, 10 more minutes passed and I had to track him down. He replied «oh yeah, it’s coming». No buddy, you just forgot. It doesn’t take almost 20 minutes to get a coke.
Despite the poor service on our 2^nd visit, we will definitely be going back. I just purchased tickets to the Chris D’Elia show next month, and I look forward to attending another open mic night!

I want to call out that after my complaint on Unilocal the GM Kris Torrens private messaged me that they would give me tickets to another show on them since the original comedian did not preform the night we came. The GM also gave me a the phone number to call when I was ready to come back. I was very happy about that and so when I heard the comedian that I originally wanted to see was coming to town I called the phone number the GM listed on the message. I called twice and no one called back. I also private message the GM twice, but no answer. How Shady!
This was last year but apparently I’m still bitter if it’s still on my mind.

Great place for comedy and stand up comedy. I’ve seen notable folks like Mencia there and not so known folks like Lachlan Patterson. It always ends up being a great night!
They have a 2 drink minimum. FYI the beer are cheaper-​around $ 6, versus mixed drinks are $ 12. A bottle of champagne counts as 2 drinks and costs $ 22 or more. Expect to pay $ 10 plus for most drinks and you’ll be safe.
Food is anywhere from $ 10-​$ 30. Expect to pay on average $ 15 for each. They offer food from the restuarants in the venue like Ice Bar Sushi or Cellar food. I have gotten the Mac and Cheese which was good and Sushi which wasn’t bad.
Overall a great place to bring friends. Comedy tickets can range from $ 20-​$ 50 pending the celebrity status.

What a terrible time we had here.
Went to see Yannis Pappas. He was GREAT! Even though, he didn’t bring MAURICA RODRIGUEZ (his alter ego) with him, and I specifically came to see her, he was still REALLY funny!
During the show, my date and I were having a great time. The food was surprisingly good. We were having fun, enjoying the drinks, and generally having fun. We were seated at the very rear of the club, laughing and talking about the jokes, and my date said something to Yannis. Others in the crowd were chiming in as well. He seemed to love it, and was ENCOURAGING audience participation. Soon, a company employee came over and asked us to be quiet.
I was really put off. I didn’t know if it was because we said something to the performer, or if was because we were laughing loudly and talking about the jokes that we were admonished. It’s a COMEDY club for Pete’s sake! It’s not like anyone was seated near us, we were the last table in the back.
Anyway, that really put a damper on my evening. I was scared to laugh too loud or talk to my date about the jokes. I just decided to suck it up, and make the best of the evening. I had waited so long to see YANNIS PAPPAS!

Been there three times and last night was the last time I’ll go. My previous visits have been fine. Comedian was funny, but the way they treat their guest was not.
So you know, the Improv is part of East Andrews. East Andrews is a collection of bars and restaurants inside one complex. Me and my friend had been there since 5:45, eating and drinking at another bar in the complex, having fun, without incident. So we were nor hungry or thirsty.
We went to the Improv around 7:45. Me and my friend both bought a 10.00 water to meet the 2 drink minimum, and attempted to leave early to beat the crowd. The rudest waiter ever starts screaming at us about not leaving him a tip. Now mind you, he only brought us water and didn’t say another word to us for the rest of the night. I politely reminded him that tips were for good service and were not mandatory. Furthermore, I advised him not to scream at me and my friend again. Which he did in front of other customers.
We left and went to bar within East Andrews. All was fine until a security guard comes up and tells us we have to leave. Why? Apparently cause we didn’t tip the waiter at the Improv? I don’t even really know. The security guy was so vague and rude. But instead of leaving I spoke to his boss who apologized to us. I also spoke to the Improv’s manager and she apologized and the rude waiter, to my knowledge was dealt with.
So to sum it up, the Improv is a nice place. East Andrews is a great place to hang and we will be going back, but that first security guy was beyond rude and I have no words for that waiter. The security manager was really nice and apologetic and even bought us a round of drinks. The manager was also polite and encouraged us to come back, but honestly, being chased down and screamed at by a waiter who acted like we didn’t even exist for almost two hours and then to be embarrassed by a rude security guard was enough to turn me off from anymore comedy shows. At least for a while.
There’s a lot of do within East Andrews and we will be spending our money at Cellar 54 and the Czar Bar. Both wonderful places, and we’ve yet to be screamed at by anyone who works there.

The Improv was a great experience… my food was decent and the comedy was awesome. I used a Groupon deal with a credit for Stillhouse and they were very accommodating.
The wings could have been crisper and the potato skins were okay, but not better than my homemade ones. I did get full enough though. I’ll return to Improv…

It’s a shame that I was forced to deal with the manager, Shamey. No joke, that’s really her name. She was course and abrasive. I wasn’t the first person to the show, but I also wasn’t the last. I was told my girlfriend and I would have to sit separately. Yeah, great idea. I love going on dates where me and my date sit across the room from one another. Dates are better spent alone, right?
Then Shamey was completely condescending and treated me like an idiot for expecting two adjoining seats at the show. I apologize, I guess I should be more open to alternative seating arrangements on my big night.
Ok Shamey, this night has already gone pretty south for me. Maybe I can just have a refund and try to move on? Nope. And I quote, «Your not being able to sit together isn’t our fault. No refund.»
I almost pooped my pants. That was the last thing I expected to hear.
What a shame that Shamey made my entire experience here so shameful.

Great spot! I had heard of the place, but never been until last week. I went with a bunch of coworkers to see Brian Posehn (Big Bang, New Girl). We had about 15 people and got there a bit early but we got great seats and all seated together. There were two openers that went on for about a half hour before Brian came on. It was hilarious!
There is a two drink minimum but that was easy. Waiters come around periodically before and during the show to take drink and food orders. I didn’t try the food but it looked good and next time I will!

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a comedian or been to a comedy club. And my first time to Atlanta Improv.
Valet parking is super convenient as the lot is really small and there aren’t a lot of options where you don’t feel like you’re parking in a private area. Atlanta Improve goers (at least) get to validate their parking passes.
If you show up early, check out one of a few very close bars for pre-​show drinks.
Doors open at 7 but the wait staff reported technical difficulties, «on the phone with someone to fix the microphone…» So we waited about 25 minutes in a stuffy hallway that got warmer the longer we stood and talked to each other.
Tickets for Dave were about $ 20 which is not bad but there’s a 2drink minimum requirement. Your options are $ 10 cocktail x2, $ 4-​$ 5 beer x2 or $ 10 unlimited soda x1 and you get to keep your soda glass. I’m not sure how that makes sense but whatever. I had three beers. What can I say? I’m an overachiever.
The room is huge and can be cut into thirds with huge black curtains, to keep it intimate if a show doesn’t sell out. This night, 2/​3rds of the room were filled. There really isn’t a bad seat as long as you’re not inconvenienced by having to turn your chair if you’re seated, for example, on the left side of the stage at a table facing left — your back is basically almost to the stage.
The stage is low which I like, because you feel even closer to and more intimate with the person on stage. Two large screens (4 flat screens) on each side of the stage help you see what’s going on.
I ordered 10 lemon pepper wings for $ 9something. They brought bleu cheese automatically but when I realized it, they kindly brought me ranch. The wings were not very lemon-​peppery at all, which was disappointing, but they were cooked well and juicy.
The bathrooms are fine. They didn’t look as clean as I would have expected for the first show of the evening bit nothing terrible. On the way out of the show, you walk through a bar area and can wait in line I’d the comedian you’re seeing is signing autographs and stuff.
Overall a good experience which I’d repeat for the next cool comedian coming to town. But I’d skip the wings. I heard from 2 nearby patrons that the burger is yummy, and the fries and beer battered chicken fingers looked good. I see they also offer actual improve classes which is rad. Check it out!
