I’m Derek Shane.

People always ask me «how did you get into photography» and I really hate sounding so cliché and saying it’s always been a part of who I am, but that’s the truth. I’ve been visually stimulated and driven by the visual world around me forever.

I started taking picks with my granddad’s camera when I was really young but didn’t pick up my first «professional» camera until college. There I found a unique world in which i could slip away anywhere at any time and document things as I see them and tell the story of my life through the images I created. Some people write in journals and diaries, I write in pictures. As I began documenting and telling the story of my life through imagery, I posted, shared and talked about what was going on in my life through those pictures. So as no surprise, when the first couple asked me to capture their wedding day as I saw it through my camera, I was all about it!

Since 2007, I’ve been photographing weddings, seniors, models and the likes.
