Purple Door Salon

I became acquainted with the Purple Door salon, and the owner, Mr. Dwight Eubanks, through soliciting funds from businesses in the community for the Twenty-​fifth Anniversary of my pastor, Dr. Michael N. Harris, at Wheat Street Baptist Church I went to the salon to meet Mr. Eubanks, who was not there the first time I went, but I was so impressed with the staff and the ambience, I decided to make an appointment and return to meet Mr. Eubanks. The second time I went Mr. Eubanks was there and I told him my purpose for coming was two-​fold and made an appointment to come back to get my hair styled by him. Mr Eubanks committed to giving a donation at the highest level to our church and I returned to get my hair styled I have NEVER received so many compliments on my hair and was VERY pleased with the service I received. I am now a regular customer, and am impressed that, true to the stated mission of the salon, Mr. Eubanks is supportive of the community, and is an EXCELLENT stylist!

I had a WONDERFUL first time experience at The Purple Door with Mister Franklin! He spent time on the consultation making sure he knew exactly what my hair was like and my problem areas, how I like to do my hair regularly, and what I wanted from my hair cut/​stlye. I couldn’t be happier! Its really hard to find a stylist that can actually deal with my long, curly hair, and be able to cut and style it to my specifications and Franklin did just that! Absolutely wonderful Salon!

Todd Edwards… awesomeness. Words can’t describe how creative and professional he is. No mess, he’s prompt, about the business, but sociable. I’m addicted. I get 100% dedicated attention, no loud talk craziness in the salon, and the people are decent. My new home every two weeks!!!

Everything about the Purple Door Salon is great. The location is easy to find with sufficient parking. I was there on a Wednesday morning and both meters directly out front were available (have your own change of course) and there were a few spaces behind the building (Hilliard St I think). Once inside the décor is warm and inviting. My stylist was Todd and he is very knowledgeable on hair. His friendly demeanor calmed my nerves (I have a fear of new people touching my hair). There was no wait, we started right on time and I was out of the salon in one hour and a half.
I have relied on sew-​ins to hide my unmanageable, transitioning hair in this Houston heat (I am clueless on hair care) for the last 18 months. I wanted to give my hair a break and knew I needed a good wash and condition (could barely comb my hair without yelling). Todd gave me a very silky press and cut. I was overjoyed when I looked in the mirror. My hair is full of body and looks extremely healthy!
Their prices are comparable with other salons in the area. I will definitely return anytime I come to visit Atlanta.

First off, let me just say how welcomed I feel when I come into The Purple Door. Everyone is so accommodating and very professional. My stylist is Samirah and she always does a wonderful Job on my hair. On Monday I went to get a new look with my hair color for the fall. When I say, she did a fabulous job, I mean it. This was my first time getting color from Samirah and I have never felt so sexy and spicy about my hair color. It was truly confirmed when my husband said I looked the way I felt. LOL!
I always get compliments on my how healthy and beautiful my hair looks. Samirah is very professional and is also talented in her skill set. What a pleasure to have her doing my hair. I just love when she washes my hair and massages my scalp. I think that I get excited about about that part the most, she is not to rough or to gentle, just right. But of course when she is finished with the full service, you have no choice but to feel good, while looking good. I recommend Samirah to everything. She is a class act and her talent speaks for itself.

Today was my first visit to the Purple Door and I couldn’t be happier with the whole experience! My stylist Samirah was very talented and really took good care of my hair. My hair is very thick n long so often stylist don’t feel like working with my hair but Samirah was great! Her hair is also natural and is so long n beautiful so I knew right away she would know how to do my hair. She took the time to thoroughly wash my hair. She then massaged the conditioner into my scalp and even gave me a steam treatment by placing a hot towel on my hair with the conditioner on it for a few minutes. I was literally in heaven! My hair came out so beautiful! Also the salon itself is breathtakingly beautiful. I can’t wait for my next appointment.

I recently moved to Atlanta and was worried to try a new place, I was certainly wrong to be worried. Darius was fantastic! My hair looks amazing, couldn’t be happier.

Darius is my stylist and he is AMAZING! He always fits me in, takes the time to truly see the state of where my hair is at and doesn’t charge a ridiculous amount like other salons for natural hair (mine is very curly and goes to my bra line when straight). The salon is always neat and clean and I have for years, always had a great experience.

I really wish I could give them a better review, but I just can’t. Let’s examine this place from the beginning to end. good vs. bad.
Since I’m still kind of new to the Atlanta area I decided to look online to find a salon that could style natural hair. that was the first mistake… when it comes to hair, only go by referrals from people you’ve seen with nice, healthy hair. BUT I was desperate and on a time crunch so I surfed the web for advice. When I first checked out the Purple Door’s website I was a little confused. It seemed very high-​fashion modeling geared, when all I wanted to know was prices, styles offered and products used! I decided to look past that in hopes that they could hook me up. I got there at 6:45pm and asked my stylist if I could get change for a dollar for the meter. He assured me my car would be fine… hmmm guess what I found on my car when I left? A $ 25 parking ticket… but to rewind the story…
I called to set up an appointment and confirm that they were experienced with straightening natural hair and they assured me that they were. I would normally go to TOO GROOVY but my funds were low and The Purple Door was cheap so I decided to give it a try. Everything was fine from the greeting to the shampooing. When he began to dry my hair he took me from the dryer to the hand held blow dryer to the dryer again. He obviously didn’t know the first thing about natural hair. Then he flat ironed my hair with the flat irons you put in one of those old school curler ovens… completely damaging for hair!!! After he got my hair straight he flat ironed it with the regular ceramic iron. Why didn’t he just use the ceramic iron in the first place?
My hair looked great after he finished, and it felt nice. My stylist was very nice as well, but I didn’t leave the salon until around 10:00 and I was my stylist’s only client! They also only accept cash. No credit card machine for an upscale high fashion salon? Really? After the ticket experience, for the next 3 days I had constant static in my hair I couldn’t get rid of! On top of that, I went back to my normal stylist 2 weeks later and she found a small area in the crown of my head where he burnt my hair off from the heat in the oven flat irons… SO disappointing Dwight!

Going to the Purple Door is just fun, Dwight is an awesome hair stylist, Terrance is the bomb at nails, and James gives the best damn massage ever!

OUTSTANDING SERVICE. The ambiance is awesome, worth the extra duckets for a kewl experience.
