Post Crest

Since my last review, I transferred to another unit in a building that hasn’t been hit by break-​ins and the crime rate on the property has dropped. The management let me transfer penalty-​free because I requested a change about 60 days after I moved in. And, I got a reduction in the market price for my unit to help sweeten the deal. The upper level units are much more expensive now because they are the least likely to get broken into. Most of the units that were hit last summer were ground floor or terrace level units. Regardless, I didn’t feel safe where I was and wanted a change for the remainder of my stay in Post Crest.
My new unit is higher up and I get a better cell phone signal. It has made me feel more safe, to some extent. The thing that makes me feel safest is my security system that I bought after the string of break-​ins while living in my old unit; it’s wireless and I brought it with me when I moved. I wasn’t sleeping well before I installed it because I was constantly on-​edge and every bump in the night woke me up. But the security system has helped me feel more at-​ease at night when I’m asleep or hanging out, and to know that my door will still be locked/​nobody will be waiting for me inside when I get home.
After these break-​ins, the property management did add things on to help with security and the crime rate has gone down: cameras at both entrances, security patrol, latch guards to prevent someone from taking a crowbar to the deadbolt, to name a few. However, I’m waiting to see if the crime rate really does drop from these additions, as everything was finalized around the time where the cold weather came in. Criminals don’t like cold and crummy weather any more than the rest of us do, and I’m curious to see if anything spikes this spring/​summer when the weather is better and people generally stay out later.
Although I really like my new unit, I still can’t give the property more than 3 stars. The walls in this place are incredibly thin, and I can hear EVERYTHING happening in the unit above me, particularly through the air vents. I didn’t have this issue in my old unit where I also had a unit above mine. I expect to hear footsteps, but not loud stomping and crashing (pets jumping off furniture?) at all hours. I also can hear all the late night «activities» my neighbors enjoy doing, typically on Friday nights after midnight, and are usually the night before I have to work early. Earplugs and fully loaded coffee are a must.
The parking situation also isn’t very good in front of my building. Sometimes I come home late, and I have to park either way in the back (where the lighting is terrible), or near another building and walk back under decent lighting. We lose a ton of spaces for the handicapped, but there are also these awkwardly large spaces that really should be divided in half because you can fit two cars in there comfortably. But, you know there’s always that person who parks their car in the middle and ruins it for the rest of us. Not to mention people who don’t know how to park between the lines to begin with… These situations make me wish I had my old ’96 Honda!
Overall, I can’t recommend this property to friends. It’s been a hassle from day one; from a ton of break-​ins and lack of cell signal to loud neighbors. It’s reasonably priced for the area, including my utilities, and the layout is perfect for my lifestyle (on-​the-​go young professional without pets). The property management is great, as I’d expect from Post, but it isn’t enough to make me stay. I’m not renewing my lease this year, in large part because I’m getting married and will move into my fiancé’s house after the wedding.

I lived at Post Crest for a year and would still be living there if my job didn’t relocate me to Bellevue, WA. I would recommend the complex to people looking for a clean, convenient apartment complex with a great office staff.
Kelly and her staff are definitely first-​rate, which is something I needed after a terrible year in a Roswell apartment complex that shall not be named.
I never had any problems at Post Crest that were not taken care of by the office. As I said above, if you work anywhere on the north-​west side of the city, to Buckhead and Atlanta itself, from I-​20W all the way to 400, Post Crest is a fantastic place to live as it is convenient to just about anywhere in that area.
I only had a couple of issues with the complex, which dropped my review from 4 stars to 3 stars, which to me is still very good.
There were a few fire alarms pulled by kids living in the complex during the summer.
As someone else wrote, there were an alarming number of break-​ins the last few months I lived there. These were all ground floor break-​ins, and this is speculation by me, but the burglars would seem to have needed help from someone living inside the complex for all of these break-​ins to happen so frequently, so that was a worry. I was surprised to note that there were no cameras at the gates or public areas. Having cameras often serve as a deterrent to crime, and I can only hope Post Crest has made that investment since I left.
My last issue was: I had the carpets professionally cleaned when I left, and they still took money from my security deposit for carpet cleaning, which is bogus. When I left, the carpets were cleaner than when I moved-​in, and they were very clean when I moved-​in. So I was disappointed by that.
Other than that, I enjoyed my year at Post Crest. It’s a quiet neighborhood, convenient to just about anywhere in Atlanta, and as long as Kelly and her great team (and their corporate bosses) are still there, I recommend you give it a look.
