P Red’s BBQ

If you can get here within their unique hours… you will thoroughly enjoy their food! A West Midtown gem that many past and don’t think about visiting. I finally had the chance to eat here in Oct (finally passed when they were open and while I was hungry). It quickly replaced my favorite BBQ place in this area.
Order and pick up food at the counter. Large variety of sides. My favorite thing to order is their sliced beef brisket with fried okra and broccoli casserole. Their Brunswick stew will make you want to go to the back and hug the cook!

After coming from K&G I ordered a pulled pork sandwich collard greens with mac & cheese. This was the most depressing pulled pork I have ever had. The meat had no bark and the visible smoke ring was a very faint color of pink. The texture of the pork was too perfect and some parts mushy from handling. This texture of pulled pork only comes from 15+ hours of smoking however no bark indicates they boiled the meat. The collard greens had little flavor and the center stem was not removed before cooking. This made them very bitter. As for the mac & cheese, it was very heavy on my fork. This extra weight came from the large amount of Velveeta Cheese mixed into it. This place was more concerned with the football game than the quality of food they produced. If you like this type of BBQ «Go Red’s»!!! I should have gone to «Mickey D’s» and had a Mc-​Rib. Selling boiled meat as BBQ should be a crime.

This is actually one of my favorite BBQ spots. i particularly like all the pulled products. Like others have mentioned the brisket is too fatty and the sides are very bland.
Never had any of the chicken or ribs so cannot comment on those offerings. I would recommend going there but not everything they have is good other than what I have mentioned as such.

All quite good: pulled pork on jalapeño cheddar bread, mac n cheese, and blackberry cobbler. A little pricier than I was expecting at almost $ 13, even just drinking water. Just good solid food from a barbeque shack. Don’t let the exterior turn you away, inside is nicer and reminiscent of a cowboy’s den with some taxidermy and wood carvings.

Great brisket! My favorite BBQ place in Atlanta. What really sets them apart is their homemade jalapeño cheddar bread you can eat with their sandwiches, it is life changing. This is a must try spot! In addition the sides Are very good, potato salad, broccoli casserole, Mac and cheese are all made with love

This is the real deal! I bookmarked this place when I lived here yet only made it here now, a couple of years later.
Brisket plate with sauce on the side and a side order of their fantastic jalapeño toast (see photo)! Very tender and yet lean. …just needed a little salt (dare I ask for sea salt?).
It’s a real schlep to get here, but if you’re on the west side of town, give this place a try.
Beware: it was so filling that I hardly had any appetite for just salad later for dinner.

The Brunswick stew is the most amazing stuff I have tasted, I would go everyday just for the stew. I plan on getting it for my wedding cause everyone needs to taste It.

Love this place… Where do I start?! I’ll give you my top three. Wings, Jalapeño Bread (You’re Welcome, LOL!) and Pimento ‘n Cheese

Great service and delicious bbq sandwiches, not too fatty and the jalopeno texas toast is fantastic. Looks like a hole in the wall from the outside but the inside is charming and warm. Try the jalopeno bread and peach cobbler, youll love them both!

I’ve been visiting this BBQ spot for a while now and can say it’s the best BBQ in my area. My favorites are the pulled pork & brisket. Don’t forget to try P. Red’s homemade sauce to tingle your tastebuds! You won’t be disappointed!

Meh. It’s not that the food isn’t good, it’s just a bit too rich for me personally.
I ordered the brisket plate with a side of green beans and potato salad. I actually really liked the potato salad. The green beans were gross. The brisket… it was a lot. I thought it had good flavor and the sauce was nice, but the meat just felt really heavy on my stomach. My whole insides just felt greasy after just a few bites, so I had to stretch the meal out over a few days.
Just a warning: even though I kept the potato salad cold it didn’t hold up the next day. Something had already started to turn, so I don’t know if it was the ingredients or if they gave me old salad to begin with.
I would think about returning, maybe to try something else a little less heavy.

Not sure why everyone is so harsh in their reviews. I had the pulled chicken jalapeño sandwich. Good price, good food, good sauce, good times! The Mac and cheese and sweet potatoes were good sides. Overall a good spot for lunch, I will be back.

Ehh not so much. I went here for lunch and had pulled pork and a side of mac n cheese. Pretty hard to screw up either of those. The pulled pork didn’t have much smokey flavor. Their sauces are tangy and sweet — it was nothing special, but not bad either. The mac n cheese was flavorless. I almost didn’t want to finish the mac n cheese because it really tasted like nothing, which is a little dismal since mac n cheese is usually one of the best parts.
Overall, the prices are okay and you won’t find many, if any, BBQ places in the area. If you’re in a bind and have a craving for BBQ, it’ll do, but it wouldn’t be a place I seek out.

This was the nastiest BBQ I’ve ever encountered in all my life! Sauce tastes like ketchup. I knew I was in trouble when I didn’t smell the BBQ in the car on the way home. I don’t remember the sides and how they tasted so that should tell you something.

This is a place good for a quick lunch. I’m not going to pretend that this was the best BBQ in town but it’s by no means the worst, it’s in the middle of the pack. Now what I can say is excellent is the speed of service. I came in at lunch and had pulled pork and sides ready to pack back to the office within 10 minutes.

Not gonna lie… I’m a bbq novice. What I DO know? Sides and sweet tea. Great bbq baked beans. Crunchy friend okra. THE best potato salad EVER. The sweet tea is always fresh and it is always just the right amount of Southern sweet.
The customer service is great. The atmosphere is down home country. It is a little piece of home right here in Atlanta.

Heard about it; drove past it often; popped in after a K&G trip.
All that beautiful wood outside the front door is just a tease. Boo!
No smoky taste, no smoke ring. Brisket was tender, but tasted like it had been smoked THEN boiled. Sides were, um, memorable in their um, blandness. Shame on them… those Allen’s green beans deserve at least a shot of salt. Tasted like they came straight from the can. OK, straight from the can after sitting in the steam table for hours. How much sugar does it take to make collards palatable? They were almost candied. Mashed potato salad. But the broccoli casserole was fab… and I don’t even like broccoli. The sauces were yummy enough to bring me back… there must be something great on the menu to glop it on! Fries, maybe?
One saving Grace? At 40 minutes to closing on a Monday night, they weren’t out of anything we ordered. Is that good or bad?

I have driven by this place many times going to and from work. The place is not open on Mondays and I chose to go one thursday evening after work. After reading reviews from others, I opted to go with the jumbo pulled pork sammy, on jalapeño cheese bread, with a side of red beans & rice plus a sweet tea to wash it all down with.
The sandwich was good but not great. The jalapeño cheese bread, toasted, was a little over the top in that I felt I was eating too much bread. The cheese infused throughout seemed a little more like cheese wiz, velveeta, or pimento (fake cheese) rather than real cheese.
The bread turned into a soggy mess after perhaps a minute or two of soaking up sauce or sauce infused meat. The bread was not bad; however, I’m not sure it meshes well with barbecue. The best way for me to describe the problem is that the idea of having pulled pork on jalapeño cheese bread is way better in concept rather than in actuality.
The pulled pork was good I suppose; but I know I have had better at other places like Buckhead BBQ or Fox Bros. The «hot» bbq sauce was a little too hot for my tastes. And for me that should speak volumes.
Me saying «too hot» should tell you something. I have a high tolerance for heat. I think they must use habanero or scotch bonnet pepper to ramp up the heat in their sauce labeled as «hot.»
The side of red beans and rice was piping hot and, unfortunately, overcooked into almost a mush. The taste was good but perhaps it, at the same time, tasted like it came from a store bought mix or can. It did not taste authentic or homemade by ant stretch; just okay. Perhaps a little on the salty side.
I will say that the iced tea was spot on good. My tab, with tax, came to a bit less than twelve bucks. The portioning was good but for the price and quality I am not sure I will return any time in the near feature.
A cheaper and better meal could be had at nearby Bell Street Burritos (perhaps a stones throw from P. Reds).

Just saying that word makes my mouth salivate, I LOVE the stuff .
P. Red’s has been in business over twenty years and this is the second location .
The ribs are Pork and can be served in a 3 bone sandwich, half rack or full, are meaty, have little fat and a nice smokey flavor, get the sauce on the side and add it as needed. The plate comes with two sides, Mac n Cheese & Fried Okra please.
Smoked wings are lean, wings come in orders of ten or twenty and served ala cart with two sauces.
Pulled pork sandwich is solid, medium smoke and moist.
The sandwich comes with sauce and pickles most times I would have been upset with sauce on my sandwich but have say I was happy with the flavor that I wish I had ordered the large when I was done.
The sandwich comes in two sizes and on a regular bun or Jalapeño bread, will have to go back and check that out.
All of the sides are homemade and they even have fried pies. I have been told the Brunswick stew is to be tried, just not my thing.
P. Red’s is is closed on Sundays and 3:00 pm on Mondays.

I am so incredibly surprised that this hidden gem has not been reviewed on Unilocal yet! A big thank you goes to my awesomest friend Barbara for introducing this place to me!
A true local barbecue establishment, P. Red’s BBQ serves traditional southern fare. They have barbecued pork, brisket, ribs, chicken, pulled pork, and hamburgers. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich on their homemade jalapeño bread with a side of mac and cheese. Their bread was riiiiiiiiiiiidiculously good! Not too heavy, and not too light. Fresh jalapeños and cheddar cheese baked into thick, Texas Toast style bread. Their mac and cheese was super creamy and just incredibly decadent. It wasn’t too greasy and tasted like real sharp cheddar! Yummy in my tummy!
The pulled pork was a bit dry and I’ve definitely had better in the area. Their homemade hot barbecue sauce definitely made up for it, though! At one point I was sopping left over sauce with my jalapeño bread… it was THAT good!
P. Red’s is full of southern charm and no wall is left bare! Check out my uploaded pictures for an idea. If you’re nervous around taxidermied animals… this place is probably not for you ;)
