Such a fantastic park! One of my favorites in Atlanta. The park is tucked away in an upper class VaHi neighborhood. It primarily consists of a big playground with old toys that the people in the community have donated over time. (I kindof wish someone would donate a shed to put the toys in because the toys are pretty weathered. But, it’s still pretty awesome!) But, my all time favorite thing about this park, is the most beautiful bridge that is hidden behind the brush. From the playground, you cross over a small bridge that leads you to a short dirt trail. It leads you to this old, tall bridge with intricate designs. I have scoured the interwebs trying to find this bridges story, but I haven’t found anything. I wish there was an historic sign offering details… But there’s not. And I spent hours trying to find a number all over and near the bridge, but I haven’t found anything. Oh mysterious bridge… And pretty swell playground… How we adore you.

We were in the Virginia Highlands area to eat, and the perfect weather was enticing us to find something to do with our 2 year old outside. 2 minutes away from all the the shops and restaurants of Virginia Highland is Orme Park, a small and quaint park nestled between neighborhoods. There were many other families with their young children enjoying the playground and its attractions. They had several swing sets for preschool kids and regular swings for the older kids. Plenty of park benches for seating. The trees provided a nice shade from the sun. For those parents who don’t mind their kids getting a little dirty, the park has a nice size sand box. There are no water fountains and public restrooms. The play set had a couple of different size slides, climbing steps, a bridge and entertaining odds and ends to please any child. I think the cutest thing about the park is that it has a collection of used ride on cars, tricycles, kitchen sets, and dump trucks that have been donated. We just use some wipes to clean handles and our toddler’s hands before and afterwards. Our little one kept on running from one toy after the other because there was so many to choose from. I think its a great idea to re-purpose these toys in a public place for other children to enjoy. If you are looking for a nice and charming park to entertain young children this would be a great place.

I can’t believe no one has reviewed this sweet, little park yet! Nestled in Virginia-Highland, Orme Park is much quieter than its other park neighbors, while also being much more child focused. It’s tucked under a cool, old brick bridge and has a deep river ravine that runs through the back. The tree canopy here is quite majestic — it’s very tall and provides lots of shade as well as a feeling of being far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. There’s no dedicated parking, which works to keep the neighborhood feel of this place. The main attraction here though is the newer playground and tons of swings. There were well behaved and well supervised children of all ages here when we visited, and many families apparently donate/leave tricycles, dump trucks, and trains here for all the children to play with. If you’re looking for a place to play with a young child, or a nice bench to take a break during a walk around this cute neighborhood, Orme Park is a place to keep in mind.
