Old 4th Distillery

This is the best vodka I’ve ever tasted. Period.
The gin is fantastic as well, and I don’t even like gin.

Ever since my recent trip to Chattanooga’s Tennessee Stillhouse Distillery, I had developed immense anxiety due to the anticipation of Atlanta’s 1^st distillery. My first distillery experience had been so amazing that I knew being at home and that my closer to my couch in the event of my slight and temporary alcoholic «incapacitation» would be that much greater.
I received the opportunity to go as one of a few events for a friend’s birthday. We had so much fun. First of all, I love the location. Old fourth ward /​Edgewood is one of my favorite districts in Atlanta. The décor was spot on and perfect for the type of business. Very modern rustic kind of feel. Being a designer I notice those types of things off the top. As soon as we entered the door we were greeted by one of the owners and our tour guide, Jamison. My friend mentioned it was her birthday and we were given complimentary shots. My kind of place! Now, I’m uncertain as to whether that was because of her birthday or if it was a normality to have a commencing shot, but wither way, I loved it!
We did the tour, which was short and not much walking. Jamison was very knowledgeable about the product and business. As a matter of fact it was his first day doing the tours, as he works elsewhere in the business in a different capacity. He did great for a first day. The owner laughed and joked with us and was all around very pleasant. Then there were more shots. I’m not a big alcohol connoisseur, but I know good when I taste it! And that was it. I usually like the sweet, but the gin and vodka was so smooth, I’d order it in a heartbeat.
At the end of the tour we took pics and bought some merchandise. We planned to do the tour and a bottle, which was 25 (27 with tax) but there was only one bottle available, so we ended up doing the free tour, with the exception of the b day girl who bought the last bottle, which was so beautiful. I love a well packaged product! My friends bought shot glasses, but ended up getting them free. That was very cool. I bought some cool metallic sunglasses, so BOSS!
I would gladly go back when they begin selling in 2017. Can’t wait!

I came to old 4^th distillery with a group of friends for my birthday. Our tour guide Jamison was very friendly and explained the entire process to us. We enjoyed ourselves; we even bought a bottle of the vodka and the cute souvenirs. I can’t wait until the bourbon ages! I’m not a big fan of vodka, but it is very smooth and even a little sweet
. I give the distillery a 4 because of the communication issues. Getting in contact with someone in regards to tours was a little difficult, but after visiting, I definitely understand why. It’s worth a trip!

I heard friends rave about this distillery and have been anxious to visit. Luckily for me that chance arrived yesterday.
Old 4^th Ward Distillery is located on Edgewood near Joystick Gamebar and Sister Louisa’s. The building isn’t very large but there is enough signage on the distillery to ensure you’re in the right place. There is a gift shop and tasting bar when you first walk in. The gift shop houses many affordable keepsakes such as shirts, sunglasses, mule mugs, and shot glasses. The tasting bar is where you’ll get to taste the goodies.
The next section in the distillery is the manufacturing room. This is where the magic happens. Jamison, the tour guide, gave history facts about Old 4^th and broke the process down. It was interesting to learn how much time and effort goes into making the finished product. The distillery makes alcohol on a small scale so if you’re used to going to larger distilleries don’t expect all the bells and whistles. No food or cocktails are served here and much of it has to do with Georgia liquor laws. I was excited that I got to try some of the future products such as the bourbon and gin. Yum! According to the tour guide the bourbon won’t be available until 2020 and the gin 2017 I believe.
The distillery is open Thursday’s from 2−7pm and Saturday’s 12−5pm. Several kinds of tours are offered so you can come in just for a tasting tour or tour with a souvenir bottle.

We came here for my husband’s 30 birthday and had a great time. We were treated to a neat, engaging, and informative tour of the back; followed by tastings in the front of the building. It has an amazing ambiance to it and you truly feel as if you are a part of something special during your visit. I am not the type who particularly likes straight alcohol, but their vodka is AMAZING! A great place on Edgewood to visit and an Atlanta gem!

2 oz old 4^th vodka
8 oz Coca Cola
1 dash Angostura Bitters
Combine, garnish with a tiny kudzu leaf and enjoy.

I bought my first bottle of Old 4^th Distillery vodka in December; turns out, it was part of the first batch distributed in stores — woohooo legacy bottle in the house!
The building is separated into two areas — a tasting room and a manufacturing area. The manufacturing area must be separated from the tasting room and is covered by a federal permit that took several years to get. (See how much I listened in my tour?!) The tasting room includes materials repurposed from a school that was later demolished as well as the area that is now the manufacturing room.
What’s different about Old 4^th vodka is that it’s made from sugar cane which leads to a slightly sweeter vodka which I very much enjoy. I’d always associated sugar cane with rum so this was a learning process for me. They use sugar cane because they wanted an ingredient that was available in their local area and sustainable (sugar cane is grown in Florida). Sugar cane is also naturally low in cholesterol and sodium and gluten free. And never fear my carb-​counting friends, because the sugar cane is fermented and distilled there are no carbs (I didn’t learn this during the tour; I learned this about rum YEARS ago. Yay!)
After the initial fermentation process the alcohol is over 180 proof. I got a whiff of it and it took me back to my college days drinking fraternity punches that were grain alcohol and kool-​aid. (Please note that this vodka is triple distilled.)
Old 4^th Distillery is able to package up to 300 bottles a day. They call this small batch but for me a small batch is 50.
I bought a t-​shirt and shot glass for $ 20 total. You can buy them separately as well. (Normally, I don’t buy this kind of stuff, but I really want to support a local brand.) In stores, the vodka is cash priced at $ 23.99. I do not know the cost if you by from the distillery.
What I loved about the distillery is seeing someone’s idea come to life. The Old 4^th Distillery shows what you can do on a small scale (but not a cheap scale, so don’t think you’re going to do this for a couple hundred grand). You can have your own manufacturing plant making what you want to sell in your local market. Made in America — oh yeah!
