Mia’s Dominican Hair Salon

I went here yesterday to get a blowout and had the worse experience. First the owner was kind enough to wait for me and take me after she said she was closing early. Second they use all aveda products. Good right? Now on to what made my experience horrible. She attempted to detangle my dry, natural hair which happened to be in a curly wash n go that day (imagine the hair rippage and pain) she even handed me the comb because it hurt so much. I NEVER detangle dry hair. I always do it on hair soaked with conditioner. Then she washed me super quick. Did not condition my hair because she ran out of conditioner. Second she said she would not put rollers in as she could hand dry it and get the same volume and bounce. Wrong! My hair while pretty was super flat and lifeless and felt horrible. Probably cause she didn’t condition my hair. I asked for a trim and I promise it had to be the most unorganized trim ever and to look at my hair the next day you would never know I had a trim. When I asked if I needed one (it’s been 2 months since my last trim) she said my hair felt fine and that she was the most chill stylist ever and goes with the flow. Um don’t you go to a supposed specialist for their expertise in taking care of your hair? I don’t want a hippy friend. I need a stylist! If it needs to be cut, cut it. She was afraid to cut my hair but did so anyway. I should’ve never gotten anything done after she hacked my hair dry de tangling it. Lesson learned! If you want pretty hair with total disregard to healthy hair and proper hair care for a set price then go here otherwise pay the price of going to someone who’s knowledgable and will take care of your hair.
Also it looks like the owner reads these reviews and finds a way to hide or (not recommend) the not so good reviews. I don’t care! While she was pleasant her skills are seriously lacking. I don’t mind her commenting to refute this. Hope It helps another poor soul looking to get a «Dominican blowout»
Update: I now have severe heat damage on my natural hair. I added no additional heat. I refuse to do another big chop :-(

So this was my second time going to this salon! The first time I absolutely LOVED it and I LOVED the outcome this time as well! I just wasn’t prepared to be sitting in there for 5 hours! From what I experienced today it’s best NOT to go on a Sunday! They only have two people running the salon and only ONE person knows how to properly blow your hair! When she got done with my hair 5 hours later it was absolutely gorgeous! So the 4 stars is because of the wait! If the owner is reading this, you need to implement a system that gets people in and out on Sundays! I’m from NY as well and I’ve never stayed in a Dominican salon this long!
Another thing that kinda threw me off was the young lady who was Doing my hair didn’t want my son taking pictures. I think she thought I was there to spy on her or something but that wasn’t the case… Then I went to use the bathroom and as chaperoned! Strange! But non-​the less she did an AMAZING job on my hair! I will be going back weekly but not on Sundays!

I NEVER wrote on Ana’s salon, and never intended to. I’ve never been to Ana’s salon. This employee is lying on me. The only mistake I made was the name of Mia’s other salon I was directed to, and that is Asha’s. The people from both salons said this was Mia’s salon with the same stylists. I am now being harassed by Mia on both posts, which is disgusting and unprofessional. All to hide someone’s experience. My review under her other salon, Asha’s, stands. I have written to Unilocal for help with this abuse in the middle of the night. Her response under Asha’s salon makes absolutely no sense with respect to my review. I didn’t say anything about closing time, or even what time I got there or left. I urge Unilocal to stop online harassment like this and threatens of suing just because someone wrote about a bad experience at a place.
I only divided the review between Mia’s and then Asha’s salon. I have the paper that said someone was out with the flu and to go to Asha’s. My original review said «Ana’s or something», when it should have been Asha. That’s all I had to change. If anyone should be upset it should be Ana! This is horrific behavior for a manager. Maybe focus on respecting clients, and their opinions, instead of harassment, lying, and attempts to sue.

I just moved down from NY two weeks ago and it took me a while to find a Dominican Salon. A friend told me about this one and one in Greenbriar and went with this one. I haven’t had a perm in a year but man oh freaking man when I got out of the chair you would have thought I had just gotten a perm. They take their time on their clients and definitely use top notch products from the shampoo to the oils. In NY you smell all the same shampoo/​conditioner no matter the salon unless you bring your own. I must say they are better than my recent salon I went to in NY. Mias is my new home for hair and all thanks to my stylist Iris who made my first visit a permanent one. As far as the price, honestly NY was $ 10-​$ 20 for a wash and set depending on the length I always paid $ 20. So $ 15 more didn’t hurt, I’m a regular now!

This is a no frills type of place, and that is what I like about it. Walk in, sign in, and wait to be handed off to the first of many people who will be working on your hair. I go for the wash/​set and I bring my own hair products. I get washed, rollers put in and set under the dryer. They will keep you under the dryer longer than necessary, but that’s all salons. Josie unrolls and styles me. When I leave my hair is bouncy, strait, and beautiful. It lasts longer than any blowout I’ve had at a full service salon and doesn’t empty my pocket. I don’t think I’d go here for chemical services, but for a wash/​set I’m there!

Last Straw! (disclaimer…LONG REVIEW)
I’ve been here about 4 times. While the location is very convenient and there are only a few Dominican salons on this side of town this place is HORRIBLE! I will say that I have only tolerated this place because of my lack planning and last minute style. I will also be honest and omit my last experience here which is what fueled this review.
The Owner/​Manager– 0 stars for personality, technique, and professionalism! This woman has as much personality as a glass of tap water and the business savviness to match. On any given day there is no order in which you are serviced. They finally got a sign-​in sheet but they don’t call the next client from it or anything. I’m not sure if it’s a language barrier or what, but this woman rarely utters a word and will look at you like a deer in headlights if you ask her a question. I thought she was deaf and mute until my 2^nd visit.
Stylists– it’s a revolving door here. If you see the same stylists twice it’s because you don’t own a comb or brush and come here daily. Otherwise, don’t get attached.
Skill– you better say a prayer, fast, AND got to confessional and hope you are lucky enough to get a stylist with skill. I have witnessed the TRAGEDY of not receiving favor. And don’t you come in there with a mess on your head (yeah I know it’s a hair salon but they WILL look at you CRAZY)!! I have natural hair I get the looks and the whispering starts once the water hits my head.
Service– they are not quick (which is why I usually go to Dominican Salons). The owners daughter, 13 yrs old (and sometimes Mia herself (she’s about 7) is the cashier. They have forgotten to return my card to me on a few occasions and I find myself walking back in to their confusion, but they are minors… I can’t be too mad.
Lastly I was rudely turned away on this last visit, which I am not taking into account in this review. I called to find out what time they take their last appointment. I was told «AROUND 5:30». I arrived at 5:38 and was told I was too late. That’s fine I get that, but they were still washing and wrapping hair?! I went to speak with the owner whom I’ve chatted with (or should i say «to» she is a blank stare) before. I told her what I was told on the phone and she said (after a blank stare session) «no». I’m like «no what?» She says «no» almost at a whisper. I try to help her find her words and structure some full sentences. She says «you’re too late.» So I tell her I will go elsewhere, although I’ve been here several times. Whilst I REALLY want to let her have it I decide I won’t scream and act a fool or yell… I’ll just Unilocal!!!

I am now at Ana’s Dominican Salon (really needed to get my hair done tonight) and so far 1000 times better. I’ll be sure to review tonight!
I hope Mia’s make an improvement. The good ppl of Cascade deserve much more than you currently offer for a whopping $ 35&up!
