I went here because it was so close by on a recommendation. I filled out the new student registration and walked over in good spirits.
OPEN COMMUNITY MY ASS
I laugh at how such an «open and welcoming» community spits out racist remarks without cause or reason. I definitely did not feel welcomed.
I am Asian. SHOCKING. so fucking sad that in the South you can’t deviate outside the norm of «white» «black» «mixed» «LGBT» ALL WELCOME EXCEPT THE CHING CHONG CHANG MANG!
I was literally being a model citizen, on time, filled out my new student registration and paid online, before walking over EARLY out of respect to the yoga practice. I was all set to go waiting outside the benches where the coats and shoes are kept in cubbies MINDING MY OWN FUCKING BUSINESS– waiting for the yoga class to end, students start filing out and one RACIST AWFUL BITCH loudly looked at me, made a very racist remark EXCLAIMING that she must be at a JAPANESE RESTAURANT EATING SUSHI.
WTF.
I was irate. I marched back up to reception only to note with HORROR that this same racist woman was a TEACHER.
are you kidding me. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME.
A whole roomful of racist white women looking away. Wow. Not to mention I’m Korean, born in the States, but yet somehow dumbass Southerners can’t handle the simple truth that America was made to be a melting pot.
I’m sorry, the South will never fucking rise. Go eat more cheetos.
I am not one to shy away from shitty situations and I refuse to let racist assholes deter me, so I continued on with my life, took the class, which was satisfactory, but literally I’m shaking still thinking about this.
Ignorant community. Awful «welcoming». Will NEVER go back here and definitely DO NOT recommend for any underrepresented group not traditionally supported by breast cancer suburban moms pretending to be spiritual.
AWFUL

This studio is a soothing and soulfully nourishing place to learn yoga and mediation upon entering the establishment, you will be greeted by peaceful sounds, incense, books, alters and warm rooms. They have many offerings, including beginners yoga, Qi Gong, $ 5 yoga and more. Come check it out! They do emphasize the yogic lifestyle and Buddhist practices, but you don’t have to feel pressured to change your faith. Come as you are.

I have been a yoga practitioner for almost 20 years now. I started out in an Iyengar studio and then fell in love with yoga at a Bikram studio.
A few years ago, I was looking for a change from Bikram and a friend suggested I try Kashi. The first time I went in I knew it was different. Yoga studios say yoga is for everyBODY. I knew that Kashi didn’t just say it; they practiced it. It is a diverse community of people and they are very welcoming.
The classes focus on breath with the asana. I love it.
I loved it so much that I decided to get my teacher certification from Kashi this past year. I chose their Classical Yoga teacher training program because I think it offers a good solid base to yoga. I didn’t want to get my 200 hr certification in a «particular style» of yoga. I looked it like getting my bachelors degree and then if I wanted to focus in a particular style, then I would go for my «masters/​500hr» in that style.
They also really do give back to the community. It’s not a once a year thing either. Every week they pack lunches and feed 400 – 500 homeless at the Pine Street Shelter; they haven’t missed a week since 1998!

Good yoga studio Awful teacher training course. Cult like environment. Wanted students to pay to become an «apprentice.» The icing on the cake:
They told the teacher trainees at our graduation, we would be presented with a mala prayer bead necklace from their Swami. The «mala «we were given consisted of a string containing THREE measly beads. Try counting to 108 with 3 beads! Not cool at all considering the fact that We paid close to $ 3,000 each for tuition, books, etc!

I am not much for words but to sum up my visit to this establishment. Wow
Everything was lovely from the environment to my class and teacher. I did the gentle yoga/​meditation and it was serene and i will be going back:)

Kashi is an amazing yoga studio. By far the best in the city. As a Youtube taught yogi, I was a little timid to say I wasn’t a beginner but not only was I received the corrections and guidance i needed to really understand and find my breath, but I was challenged and held accountable for my poses and it made a world of a difference. The teachers are amazing. I’m also happy so say that the feed the hungry and bring donations to the Men’s shelter in Atlanta. Talk about good karma!

Kashi is a wonderful, welcoming community. There is a wide variety of classes — meditation/​spiritual teaching, yoga boot camp, beginners yoga, vinyasa flow, etc. There are a number of experienced, caring senior teachers at the ashram.
I highly recommend the teacher training which is full of diversity, a sense of spirituality, and a very transformative experience overall.
Swami Jaya Devi provides a very compassionate, friendly, warm, holistic approach to yoga here. Though it was challenging, I do highly recommend her 10 day detox program which is offered 3 times per year.

I’ve been doing yoga for at least 12 years, off and on. I’ve been to yoga studios from NC to GA and Kashi is the best by far.
As usual it seems the very things the masses hate are what make this a winner for me. I’m beginning to feel like I’m some kind of oddball! Oh, the horror.
Most yoga places I’ve attended in the past are the Gold’s Gym Americanized versions of yoga. Tons of very, very thin white woman — many with suspiciously large breasts protruding below clearly visible clavicle bones — stare at themselves in the mirror while pushing for the hardest postures every time. You can see said clavicles because these places are always full of designer yoga OUTFITS. I’m talking getups that would rival your best and most expensive club gear. The competitive posing often distracts the yoga instructor who has to keep stopping to say, «Karen, try putting your head up your ass first. That’s it! That’s it!» So, Karen gets instruction and your pudgy arse gets pushed into a corner by ever broader warrior poses.
Even when places are nice with fewer competitive yoginis there is rarely an environment as welcoming as the one I’ve found at Kashi. I started thanks to the groupon unlimited monthly pass and I’ve taken advantage of every single class type! I even did some prenatal yoga and my womb is beyond closed for business. All that moving around of the nether regions does, however, provide a great boost for… uh, well, it was a nice class.
The people are friendly and it’s one of few studios where I am never, ever the only person of color in the room. There are also many men in regular attendance which isn’t something I’ve experienced often. I’ve seen all types of ability — from those wheelchair bound to a 60 year old woman with a banging haircut who put me to shame in anusara class.
I’ve found pilates and anusara to be the most challenging. My muscles twitch for days after both which feels INCREDIBLE once I divorce my mind from the idea of pain or discomfort. Restorative is a very passive practice and great follow-​up to one of the more strenuous classes. The only one I’m not fond of is the $ 5 teachers class night as the instructors are, by design, less polished.
All bodies, personalities, and yoga outfits are welcome here. I’ve had no one ask me to join a cult and, unlike many baptist churches I’ve been to, no one is shaming me into tithing or donating to the church building fund. So, if it’s a cult it’s the worst cult I’ve ever heard of.
Throw on a college tee and some leggings and get your life and body in balance at Kashi. Unless you like projectile clavicles and prostate cranial poses. In which case, don’t come. Please.

Kashi Atlanta is a warm, inviting spiritual place. The variety of yoga classes is fantastic, as are the kirtan live band and the spiritual growth and meditation class. If you think it’s a cult, then you don’t understand the difference between an ashram and a regular yoga studio. Look it up. This is a community of practitioners deeply involved with spirituality; and everyone is welcome. I would give it a 5 if it weren’t for the carpet in the main studio and the fact it gets stuffy in there because it’s such a popular place. Give it a try, or another try – you will end up walking out of there with a peaceful feeling and a smile on your face.

during my stay in the atl, i have been on a yoga tour. while killing time to go to a class, a staff member of san Fransisco coffee co told me she was an instructor here and gave me the schedule. i went to her 10 am wed class and it was great. lots of breath work. not so physically challenging, but just what i needed. i have more trouble staying in the present then most. her class was geared towards finding inner peace. a not-​so-​easy thing for me to do. the space is very nice. i loved the art work on the walls. the staff was super friendly. LOTS of cute retail. i know this place does a lot for the community. i left feeling like a new person. i was a nice change of pace.

I can still smell the incense (and not in a good way). If you really like incense, then it won’t bother you… I’m just sensitive and it was very thick in there.
Anyway… I attended the $ 5 student-​led class this week. Though I had a brief stint with bikram yoga earlier this year (which I liked), I haven’t done regular yoga in years. So, I figured I’d start slow. I’m sure there are some student led classes that are fantastic but this one was choppy and I didn’t leave with that «I’m so relaxed and balanced» feeling. It was also very stuffy in the practice room. However, I’m glad I started with this one versus the regularly priced options as it was a great way to get a feel for the place.
I feel bad giving only 2 stars because I know this is a very spiritual place. I would try it again if I thought they would air it out or lay off the incense for a day… but alas my search for a yoga studio continues.

Kashi is a warm and welcoming place, and an asset to Atlanta. If you’ve been doing yoga classes at the Y or Rodney Yee DVDs at home, come see what you’ve been missing. The $ 5 yoga classes on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 4:30 are a great way to try it out. There are mats to borrow if you don’t have your own.
Kashi offers classes from total beginner to advanced power yoga, and everything in between, including kids’ yoga, restorative yoga, and workshops to address specific needs. What makes Kashi stand out from the rest is their holistic approach, incorporating meditation and chanting into the physical experience. You’ll leave your first class feeling wholly refreshed, mind and body. This is the way yoga is actually intended to be.

I came away from a yoga session here feeling like I was just initiated into some kind of cult. The yoga class I attended was quite good — no complaints here. The staff are all friendly, nice people. But I wasn’t digging the cult-​like vibe. However, I would still encourage you to give it a try and see what you think.

I am addicted to this place.
I was a yoga «virgin» and started taking my first ever yoga classes here, now I am addicted. They have $ 5 yoga on Friday’s and Sunday’s taught by yoga students. But I truly recommend the beginning yoga and restorative yoga classes for the beginners like me.
I have multiple sclerosis, so moving around isn’t as easy for me, but these yoga classes have changed my life. I used to think that people who did yoga were all sun worshiping hippies, BUT now I understand them completely. Yoga is more than physical exercise, it’s also mental and spiritual exercise as well. This place has such a positive spirit that once you start going you will become addicted too.

Kashi is truly the best yoga studio I have found in Atlanta, with roots in the real yogic spiritual tradition. Check out their website for a schedule of classes. All their yoga instructors are great and come from a sincere heartspace that is focused on the students well being and the studio itself resonates with positive energy. I can’t walk into the doors and not feel it.
For a special treat, I recommend you take one of Jaya Devi’s classes. She was recently inducted into the MLK Jr. board of preachers at Morehouse College. She is a phenomenal being and I swear the air vibrates around her from her huge heart.
