H & Z Acupuncture

I appear fit and younger than my age, but I have had chronic pain for a few decades, and the medical history of my low back and pelvic region sounds like a train wreck. My low back used to go out regularly due to 4 herniated disks (3 lumbar and 1 cervical) and spondolysthesis, and this was all complicated by a separated symphysis pubis, (excruciatingly painful, like a pelvic fracture), after the birth of my first child, and pelvic endometriosis. I have had constant spasms in my left leg, back, and neck which affect me daily, and occasional sciatica, which I control with stretching and conditioning. Since I’m basically a happy person, I have tried to stay pro-​active and not let the pain limit my activities. However, as I tried to get stronger physically, muscle spasms would occur in different parts of my body to compensate for the underlying muscle and spinal instability. About a year I ago I finally got to the point where the spasms in my left leg were so bad I couldn’t bear any weight on my left leg going up the stairs. I worked with a deep massage therapist, who recommended acupuncture and Dr. He as a more effective and holistic way to deal with all of my spasms.
I have been seeing Dr. He now for almost 6 months and I would highly recommend him. He really blends the best of eastern and western medicine in a very effective way. My chronically spasmed muscles responded to his treatment from the very first visit; the pattern of my healing has been something like this: at the appointment, I experience release and relaxation of a stubborn chronic spasm in a particular muscle, in the next few days my body shifts to a «new normal» and I notice all of the changes in my body and energy level. I go to the next visit and the same thing repeats with a different muscle, so I really look forward to «unwinding» the knots in my body after every visit. 90% of the pain and spasms in my legs and pelvic region are gone. And this relief has persisted through a grueling work schedule, multiple international flights, and almost weekly plane travel. It really is amazing. His approach to tackling the complex web of issues in my body has been consistent, steady and very clear. He was able to to figure out that the injury from the separated symphysis pubis is at the root of most of the imbalance and spasms in my body, and focus on that. His diagnostic ability with muscle palpation is pretty amazing, and his acupressure is probably without rival. At this point in my treatment, almost all of the pelvic and leg pain are gone, and much of the neck pain has been relieved as well. As he says, we are moving into «maintenance phase», and given that I have been gone for at least 2 months due to travel, this is ahead of schedule (he predicted 6 months). This investment in time and money has been well spent.

Went into the office in extreme pain, after the first session the pain was reduce by ¹⁄₃ or half. I was very impressed with the treatment and knowledge and advice given to me. I will go back everyday possible until my pain is gone. I will also continue on a bi-​weekly basis for good general health and pain management. This place is the best.

I have been seeing Dr He for about five years, first for pain management, but now I go monthly for overall balanced wellness and stress relief, (and aging as we do, he works on assorted new pains). I do not think it is a coincidence that my blood sugar and cholesterol levels have stabilized during this time. Dr He’s resume is astounding. Trained in both western and eastern medicine, Dr He brings this well rounded knowledge to each treatment. Think about it, back surgeons come to H&Z for acupuncture to treat low back pain because they do not want anyone else cutting them open!
Acupuncture is not a quick remedy, (although one time he cured a lower back spasm in minutes with just four needles). Acupuncture promotes regenerative health and whole body balance. It’s not painful; as a matter of fact, it’s nice to relax during a midday appointment. The office is professional yet with a heartwarming atmosphere. H& Z Acupuncture genuinely cares about their patients wellness!

I took my mom to there for her back pain. Dr He released her pain immediately after just one treatment. I have been knowing Dr He and Dr Zhong for 3 years. They are incredible nice couples, not only so knowledgeable on the medical field, also have such great heart that wish to help everyone. I would strongly recommend them

Dr He has done some incredible work with me. After extensive hip surgery, I struggled with constant joint and lower back pain. After a few months of treatment, my lower back pain is completely gone, and my joint pain continues to improve. Walking and standing used to be painful, and now I have no problems with those activities. I have also been able to return to more strenuous physical activity and exercise thanks to my treatment from H & Z acupuncture.

I’ve suffered with dysmenorrhea (painful menstrual cycles) for 8 years. My cycle had never been this way before, so it was a shock to suddenly start being this painful when I was about 18. The pain was unbearable. Sometimes I would end up at the ER, and even the pain meds wouldn’t work. It got to the point were I had to take a pain reliever as soon as my cramps began, otherwise if I waited until they got severe, nothing would help. I came to see Dr. He after searching via Unilocal,because I’d already gone to other acupuncturists and didn’t find relief. From the beginning, I truly felt like I could trust him. He would ask questions to actually listen and just made me feel like he cared. After a consolation, he looked and me and said, «We are going to make you feel better.» He is so passionate about his practice. After only my first session, I began my period a couple days after. With this 1 treatment, I didn’t even need an ibuprofen. Obviously, I felt some discomforts, but it wasn’t anything I couldn’t handle. I can’t even remember the last time I had such an easy period. If I’m already feeling this great, I am certain I will feel even more amazing after several treatments. I’m excited for what my future treatments will bring. Always a pleasure being here. I will never know if their treatments work because after one visit I will not be back.
BOOKING
I found these guys an unusual way. I actually won a free visit as a door prize at an event. Apparently the hostess of the event is a patient with H&Z and they send each other business. I let them know when I booked that I was the door prize winner of the free treatment. The receptionist was friendly and helpful (although I wish she had confirmed the appointment like she said she would.)
LOCATION
It’s important to know that this is not a spa environment, it is a medical one. You are walking into a very typical looking doctors office. I would probably prefer some candles, relaxing music, pretty surroundings given the nature of the treatment (honestly even the urgent care place I go to is more inviting), but maybe they want it to feel sterile so you trust the needles and everything are safe? I get that.
TREATMENT
I’m a yoga instructor and have studied the physical and energy body a good bit, so in the initial assessment I shared with the doctor that the stem of most of my hip and back pain was a shortened psoas, hip adducters and external rotators and that I needed help with those. maybe this is just my ignorance of how acupuncture works, but she didn’t seem to event register what I was talking about let alone care. It was like, «ok, so we are treating you for back pain ?» I was a little frustrated that she seemed to want to give me a one-​size-​fits all treatment.
The needles were painless and her technique was good. She asked if things hurt and she even used a really wonderful infrared light on my back.
She left the room for 15 minutes with the needles in and after only a couple minutes my shoulders started hurting terribly. (They were in a weird position with a deep, unnatural position, but she had told me not to move at all.) Apparently she forgot to leave the pager with me. The pain got so excruciating that I finally called out several times but nobody came.
THE REASON FOR A ONE-​STAR REVIEW
Everything above probably would have warranted about 4 stars, but here’s why the bad review. Again, maybe I’m ignorant of it, but it seems to me anyone working with the body’s energy should have their own in check. The doctor seemed very tightly wound, not a relaxing person to be around like you might expect from a masseuse or reiki practitioner.
Well, I was right about her energy as I got to see first hand upon check out. She apparently had no recollection of giving this prize to the business I won it from. Instead of being polite to me and saying she would take it up with the person who gave it to me, without so much as consulting her husband or the other receptionist who could have been the ones to give it to the person who gave it to me, she went off the deep end saying she would NEVER give a free treatment. She got very emotional and started calling the person I won it from a bad person and a liar. She told her receptionist not to sell me any of the herbs I was going to buy from them because they were only for her patients and I was just somebody trying to take something for free. I was just like, can I pay for the stuff and let you two work this out among yourselves? I’m not saying she shouldn’t be paid, but if there was a misunderstanding between her and the business that gave me the gift, I felt like they should have worked it out.
The receptionist was new and clearly felt bad and embarrassed I had been dragged in the middle of this. Oh and this whole rant went on while a patient was mid treatment 6 feet away.
I just thought she was so rude and unprofessional, I would recommend getting acupuncture elsewhere.

I have been coming here every two weeks. This is my seventh treatment for allergy. Dr. He told me that I would probably see improvement after the fifth treatment. For sure, after the third treatment, severity of flare ups have been reduced. After the sixth treatment, I did not had any allergy flare ups for two weeks very happy and satisfied. Who knew accupunture can help allergies. Recommended to people who are suffering from allergies.

LOWER BACK PAIN After nearly two weeks in bed, with some relief from chiropractic care and actually passing out and throwing up from the pain caused by prescription medications, I went for my first acupuncture session with Dr. He. After my first session I was able to sit up and lay down without assistance; after my second session I was able to sit down for short periods of time with minimal discomfort; after the third session the only things I could not do were lean over or pick up heavy objects. My husband said he wouldn’t have believed it if he hadn’t seen it! I work hard and am lucky to be in good health and good shape which counts significantly towards the speed with which someone would respond to treatment, as well as the nature of condition. Equally impressive though is how Dr. He diagnosed many issues that contributed to my back pain and have been affecting my health overall without me even noticing it until he treated them. It is very much a holistic treatment and a process that I wish I’d started many years ago! I am always thankful that I live in a country that embraces diversity and gives us alternative options to choose from, such as acupuncture. Dr. He’s treatment not only made my back better, but it is making me happier, stronger and healthier than I’ve ever been before!
