I’ve heard so much about Holeman and Finch’s burgers, but I think Fred’s gives them a run for their money, and honestly, I’d probably rather have Fred’s. Both are no-nonsense cheeseburgers, but when it comes down to the overall flavor and the harmony of meat and cheese, I think Fred’s is better. I’d give this place a 4.5 stars and H&F 4.333 repeating stars.

This a really cool establishment– they have a handful of options to choose from. The line although long moved quickly. I got a cheesesteak and my friend got the garlic fries. The cheesesteak was hot and the meat and bread were fresh and great, however as someone familiar with cheesesteaks– there was barely any cheese. Overall I would recommend it but only if you’re looking for a steak sandwich not cheesesteak.

Great fries. Good burger. I had the bacon cheeseburger. No thanks on the fancy ketchup. Not the best burger in ATL but I’d eat there again.

Phenomenal sandwiches and fries! I had shared the Kim chi Korean chicken sandwich and garlic fries with a friend for happy hour! Enough food for the perfect meal for the both of us, great flavor, fresh taste!

Best bánh mì sandwich in town. Also the garlic fries are a must try. The simple menu combined with a variety of sodas that I can’t get elsewhere makes Fred’s meat and bread one of my favorite neighborhood spots.

Krog St. Market has an array of great places to eat. Fred’s Meat & Bread, is one of those great places. This place makes burgers, sandwiches, and cheesesteaks the way it’s suppose to be made! Their burgers and sandwiches are great, but their cheesesteaks are out of this world! I’ve never actually eaten an authentic Philly cheesesteak in Philly before, but if I had, I would imagine it’d be a lot like the one at Fred’s Meat & Bread. There are three different cheesesteaks on the menu you can choose from: The Cheesesteak, The Shroom Shire Cheesesteak, and The Goodfellas Cheesesteak. They are most known for their original cheesesteak, which consists of a 10 oz ribeye, onions, and American cheese. My girlfriend and I got The Shroom Shire Cheesesteak and The Goodfellas Cheesesteak. They were both AMAZING! The Goodfellas Cheesesteak especially, was beautifully oozing with melted provolone cheese, while the generous portions of deliciously grilled meat, onions, tomatoes, and cherry peppers were all marvelously stuffed into the hoagie. Things definitely got messy fast, but in a good way! This place is definitely one of the best places you can eat at Krog St. Market!

So far I’ve tried their burger, grilled cheese, and cheese steaks. The showstopper are the cheese steaks!!! I had the Shroom Shire and it was sooooo good that I dug right in! It was juicy, meaty, and had a kick to it! I couldn’t ask for a better cheese steak. If you’re more of a heavy cheese lover and can’t handle the kick, Goodfella is the cheese steak for you! It’s also meaty, juicy but more cheesy than spicy. I haven’t tried the ribeye cheese steak, but wouldn’t expect any less! Also, grab their garlic fries, which is plump and full of flavor!

Cheesesteak as good or better than anything I have had in Philly(and been to very many good ones)

Killer burgers. I mean, really good. And I’m a burger snob. Fries are awesome too. They have they in flavors, but nothing like the regular fries(«pommes frites & aioli») For the vegetarians among us, the cauliflower eggplants banh me is excellent.

Ate lunch here yesterday. We actually spend quite a bit of time at Krog, but usually stick to Craft or Superica. This time we ventured out. Had the Shroom Shire Cheesesteak, and garlic fries. The sandwich was very large, but delicious. It had a great balance of flavor with very tender ribeye. I wish it actually had mushrooms on it. The fries were great. 3 stars is because the cost seemed a bit high.

Split the mushroom Philly and garlic fries with my boyfriend for lunch and it was amazing! Lots of meat and very juicy. Really great portion for a hungry person or lunch for 2. Really nice staff as well.

Fred’s Meat & Bread is a good spot for a freshly prepared burger and other sandwiches. After walking around the KSM for a few minutes, I decided to order a burger here. I ordered a «burger stack», two beef patties accompanied with bread & butter pickles and American cheese on a sesame seed topped bun. The burger was good as-is and seasoned appropriately. Not my favourite, but worth trying. At the time of this writing, cumin fries still appear on the menu online however, they are no longer available. I ordered the pommes frites, which come with aioli. The pommes frites were good. At the time I visited there was seating available at the counter. A sundry selection of sodas are available with vintage labels in glass bottles, before the days of HFCS. I will table Fred’s Meat & Bread to try again, but next time I may get the ribeye cheesesteak; it looks good!

If you’re in the mood to spend $ 15 on a sandwich this is the place to go! I had the steak and cheese(the regular one) and it’s the best I’ve had in Atlanta. Everything about it was high quality. I didn’t get the fries but they looked awesome too. You can eat at the bar or take it to a table in the main area. The line moves fast. Sandwiches are very large so bring your belly.

SOSO Good. If you’ve never been to the Krog St. Market, I you should definitely go. And if you’ve never been to Fred’s you should definitely go. This place was so delicious. We were led here because we saw the name on a list for the best chicken sandwiches in the nations, and we were not disappointed. The chicken sandwich was a Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich, which was a little different but definitely delicious. It came with cucumbers, kimchi and aioli. The best part of this was the chicken, it was cooked perfectly. We tried the old bay and garlic fries as well. I wasn’t a huge fan of the garlic fries, whoever if you are a big garlic fan you will love them. The old bay fries were delicious. You get a ton of fries though, so I recommend sharing. The concept of the Krog Street Market is so cool, and Fred’s fits perfectly in here. I will definitely be back here, I want to try the burger!

Just going to keep this short — Burger Stack is good. I’m not sure top 10 cause I’ve been spoiled by the likes of Bacado, H&F, etc but it’s worth the price of admission. Just a simple cheese burger, but done right. If there’s nothing in sight within Krog street market that your eye is craving. Get this and fries. Done. Cheesesteak — Dam… it’s a little more than what I expected to pay, but this thing is loaded up on meats and cheese. There’s no gap of bread that they didn’t fill in. Just right amount of grease for flavor and to dampen the bread. Enough cheese to give that borderline salty taste w/o gulping all your water. I think I would have to order this and one from Woody’s to do a good comparison. A bit pricey, but you aren’t getting short changed. Garlic fries — slightly more soggy then I was hoping for, but still a crisp texture for the fries at the bottom of the cup. The garlic is a bit overpowering. I’m not sure if I would order this again as a usual. To sample, sure why not. Summary — Sandwich shop type menu, but gastropub serving size and flavors. Worth a try if you’re over /underwhelm by the choices at KSM.

This is no Subway sandwich shop– these cheesestake sandwiches and po’ boys are hearty, high-calorie, could-probably-feed-three-people masterpieces. Normally, I would complain about a $ 12 price tag on a sandwich, but you’re getting bang for your buck here, for sure. Located in Krog Street Market, there is almost a «food court» feel about Fred’s but don’t let that turn you off– it’s good quality stuff. I made the goo decision to split the Oyster po’ boy(fried oysters, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, spicy mayo) and an order of the Garlic Fries(with accompanying ranch dipping sauce) with another person– and we were both slumped in our chairs hands over our full bellies by the time we had finished. The Oyster Po’ boy was flavorful, and not skimpy on the oyster or bacon. The bread was perfectly crusty, yet soft– which can often be the downfall of a po’ boy sandwich. The fries were, in my opinion, perfectly cooked. Thick-cut, crispy outside, and packed with a garlic punch! Fantastic! None of those nasty«shoestring» fries here, no sir. If you’re trying to decide on a place in the market, I highly recommend the boys at Fred’s.

For the past month, I’ve been the Christopher Columbus of Atlanta’s sandwich world aka I’ve traveled to various parts of this gigantic, traffic-ridden metro to devour anything that’s in-between two pieces of bread.(*Disclaimer: He was a heartless a**hole.) And damn, it’s been a fun trip, thus far. One of my favorite stops was visiting Fred’s Meat & Bread. My review… ***** Whether it’s their Oyster Po’Boy or Roasted Turkey, this Krog Street eatery has something for everyone. And even though I wanted to consume their entire menu, I only ordered their rib eye cheesesteak.(I can only workout for so many minutes of the day, y’all.) *Rib Eye Cheesesteak: Amazing thick and crispy bread, caramelized onions, and American cheese — it’s pretty damn hard to beat it. Sure, I burnt the f*** out of my tongue inhaling this beauty, but it was totally worth it. Best believe I would burn my tongue 1000 times out of 1000.($ 14) *BBQ Fries: Nicely seasoned with spice and salt, perfectly crispy, and beautifully thick(like a woman that does squats). The white BBQ tasted like some sort of mayo sauce, but it still tasted awesome.($ 4.50) *MacFuddy Pepper Elixir: Drank this artisan Dr. Pepper-like soda that TOTALLYBLEWMYMIND! It wasn’t too sweet, had a nice kick, and paired well with the rest of my meal. This may be my favorite soda. Ever.($ 3.50) II. SERVICE SUPER nice people working behind the counter. The dude rocking the Red Sox hat was especially cool, polite, and timely. I couldn’t have asked for anyone better. –Food took a bit long to make. But it was because they were crafting up a masterpiece meal, and that takes time. III. ATMOSPHERE/DÉCOR It’s not a restaurant with tables, rather, more like a stall with counter space and stools. Super easy and efficient. Just grab a seat and order, if there’s room. IV. PRICES It’s fairly priced when compared to the rest of the neighboring businesses. Most importantly, though, the quality of the food and execution are exceptional. BTW, when was the last time anyone saw artisan sodas being sold at a sandwich joint? V. OVERALL Want to eat a premium sandwich? Then pay the premium price and grab one at Fred’s.

When I was on my burger craze, I was eyeing Fred’s burgers for the longest time, but the distance from home deterred me from paying a visit sooner. The burger craze is over but I still had to get the original burger stack. The Burger Stack is a double patty cheeseburger. Nothing too special. You can’t request how you want the burger cooked, but the burger was still very juicy. The burger seemed a little small, but maybe because it was squished and wrapped into an aluminum foil ball. The burger reminded me of Shake Shack, although I’ve read that this should be reminding me of the General Muir burger(but that might be with the BB stack). And what’s a burger without any fries? I ordered a side of fries, although I was hesitant when seeing fries for $ 4.50. These garlic fries better be good. I loved the flavor of the garlic fries and how it drenched mostly evenly throughout the cup of fries. It came with a ranch dipping sauce, which had traces of mayo in the flavor(or maybe I was just overthinking it). I didn’t like how thick some cuts of the fries were: I’m all about the soggy but crispy, if you catch my drift. I also got a chance to taste the ‘Shroom Shire Cheesesteak and the Pimento Cheese Club. You can never go wrong with mushrooms or pimento cheese, in my book. Delish! Overall, a great attempt. A tasty burger with some good fries. If it were ¾ of the price, I could say I would come back again and it was worth it. $ 14(not including tax) seems a little hefty for a burger and fries at a non-sit down restaurant… I’m struggling with the price point for four stars, but the quality of the ingredients was definitely worth the 4th star.

Fred’s Meat & Bread is a sandwich and burger stall that debuted inside Krog Street Market in November 2014. It was opened by Chef Todd Ginsberg and company(The General Muir, formerly Bocado) and is named after Frederick Krog, whom Krog Street is named after. These folks also own Yalla next door. This is a simple eatery with burgers similar to the popular ones concocted at Muir and Bocado, fries, and one of the best Philly cheesesteaks in the city, right up there with Woody’s. Fred’s is a small operation with only one cash register and a counter with fixed seating for seven customers. However, the market has plenty of food court style tables throughout where you can take your tray of food if dining in. The menu has a somewhat limited yet interesting and diverse selection of burgers and sandwiches such as a cauliflower & eggplant banh mi(Vietnamese sandwich, previously served at Bocado), catfish po’ boys, Korean fried chicken with kimchi and Asian pickles, Italian grinders, and a porchetta sandwich made with salsa verde. Most sandwiches are priced between $ 9 – 12 each, though the cheesesteak alone is $ 14(more on that later). The standard burger stack is $ 9 and the bacon burger stack is closer to $ 12. There are about a half-dozen varieties of fries, each order costing about $ 4 – 5, with accompanying dipping sauces. No substitutions or customizations are allowed. Burgers and sandwiches, except for the Philly, aren’t served split for presentation purposes. If you want to split a burger or sandwich, there are sturdy disposable knives on the counter next to the napkins and a large pump dispenser of Sir Kensington’s ketchup. Without a doubt, the best thing I’ve had here is the Philly cheesesteak. Though a bit pricey at 14 bucks, you get giant sandwich that’s 10 ounces and approximately one foot long. For many people, this is good enough to be two sandwiches. Eat one half and save the other half for later. The freshly baked bread is nicely toasted and packed to the gills with grilled pieces of thinly sliced, lean steak. Included is melted American cheese and chopped onion. The sandwich is definitely more meaty than it is cheesy. I tend to find most cheesesteaks around town are closer to the latter, so it’s nice Fred’s version is overflowing with plenty of hearty bits of steak. Not to mention the meat tastes higher quality in comparison. The burger stack is A-OK. I understand the creator is the same, but I still find the burgers at The General Muir and Bocado to be better. And for the record, I think the Holeman & Finch burger continues to reign supreme. I’ve tried both the burger stack and its big brother, the bacon burger stack. The former comes with American cheese and bread-and-butter pickles while the latter features Swiss cheese, mushrooms, onions, and bread-and-butter pickles. Both sport soft sesame seed buns. The burgers are certainly filling with nicely seasoned double-patties that have warm pink centers. The B&B pickle slices are large and more like slightly sweet cucumber slices than they are sharply tart traditional pickle slices. The overall quality of the burgers, taking into account ingredients and preparation, is above average. The burgers are served wrapped in foil while the sandwiches are served wrapped in paper. Both sport Fred’s Meat & Bread stickers on the outside. Fries are served in tall cups. The differences in the various fries you can order are in the seasonings and sauces. They’re all smooth, thick-cut fries. I’ve tried the cumin fries, Old Bay fries, and garlic fries. The garlic fries win, hands-down. You can smell their strong garlicky goodness from far away. The cumin in the cumin fries isn’t very noticeable, at least not in the batch I tried. The cumin fries are paired with a harissa mayo which I found to be unmemorable. Other sauces I’ve tried include the garlic aioli and white BBQ sauce. Those fared better. The Old Bay fries are alright. Nothing out of the ordinary. Complete your meal at Fred’s by picking up one of their delicious housemade cookies and/or a gourmet hand-crafted Boylan soda. Service is terrific. Though there may be long lines, counter service is available and the food is cooked up by the kitchen in a reasonable amount of time. Krog Street Market has several free parking options. There are two open-air lots, one at Krog Street and Lake Avenue and the other at Krog Street and Irwin Street. You can park inside the Stove Works parking deck across the street. Finally, there’s complimentary valet available at the market(entry via Krog Street).
