Elite Event: Let Them Eat, Eat, And Eat Cake

Cake, cake, cake… and it ain’t even my birthday!
The Elites were treated to a Valentine theme cake/​cupcake/​ice cream/​jelly tasting where we learned more of the company.
We even decorated our own little cupcakes. I love velvet anything and theirs certainly made my top list. Their frosting of cream cheese that was not overly sweet.
Piece of Cake has expanded over their 30 years of business whch shows how their reputation exceeds them due to their bakery goods.

This was one of my favorite events to date — but I am a huge sweet tooth, so go figure ;-)
We started the night being welcomed into the Piece of Cake event space. This space was fairly large and included a kitchen. It would be perfect for a shower, birthday party or other event!
We got to try some beer and wine, before heading into the space further and sampling some Piece of Cake treats and sweets. They had great Cheese Straws, Chocolate Chip Pecan cookies, as well as their jams/​jellies served on cream cheese with crackers, and some mini cupcakes! The food was delish — I loved the cookies the best personally.
After noshing on some eats — we all went to decorate some full size cupcakes. They had cake stands and bags of frosting you could pipe onto your cupcake and then top with sprinkles — very cute and fun! After cupcakes we had ice cream! Who knew Piece of Cake had ice cream?! It was quite delicious — although my suggestion to them would be to combine their ice cream and cakes (ice cream cake? Ice cream with cake pieces?) — this would be amazing!
We finished the night with a cake frosting contest which yours truly won! It was not my best masterpiece, but it wasn’t too shabby for a less than 5 minute challenge. Followed by some photos in the photo booth!
Overall a VERY fun night! Happy 30^th Birthday Piece of Cake!

My first Elite event of 2015 (and very first as a Gold Elite — 5 years, baby!) absolutely exceeded expectations! I’m not a huge sweets person, but I have had Piece of Cake* on several occasions when co-​workers brought some of their cakes and other goodies to work to celebrate birthdays and other special events. I have to admit, Piece of Cake makes my favorite «American-​style» cakes (vs. Korean cakes, which are very different and I LOVE) and the best Red Velvet Cake I have had in Atlanta.
I’m normally NOT a fan of anything white chocolate-​flavored (it’s not REAL chocolate!), but Piece of Cake’s White Chocolate Cake is phenomenal. There’s just something about their freshly-​made cream cheese frosting, unlike any other, that makes any of their baked goods amazing. I completely understand why it’s their #1 bestselling cake, followed by the Red Velvet Cake as #2. They are both so delicious!
Other tasty goodies I had included the Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies and Cream Cheese Brownies. If you have never tried them, the Cream Cheese Brownies are definitely a must-​try treat! Do yourself a favor and get some as soon as possible. Sooo good. There were also Cheese Straws, a Southern snack which I wasn’t a fan of, and a couple spreads of jams, cheese, and crackers. The Honey Apple Butter was my favorite of the jams.
I loved being able to decorate my own Red Velvet Cupcakes, and the cake-​decorating contest, with randomly-​selected Unilocalers as contestants, was entertaining to watch. Some Unilocalers also chose to go on the bakery tour, which seemed pretty awesome, but the hubs and I missed it. Instead, we were one of few lucky Unilocalers who scored a beautiful FREE Valentine’s Day-​themed cake to take home. =) (Mine was a heart-​shaped White Chocolate Cake!) Finally, many of us enjoyed having our photos taken at the TapSnap booth and having them emailed to ourselves or posted to TapSnap’s Facebook page.
The Elite Event «Let Them Eat, Eat, and Eat Cake» easily earned 5 stars! Special thanks to the entire friendly staff at Piece of Cake, Ben G., and JJ G. for hosting and organizing this fantastic event, and Brittany Wages for the many lovely photos she captured that night! I’m really looking forward to all that 2015 has in store for the Atlanta Unilocal Community!
*Fun Fact Learned at the Event: All of Piece of Cake’s made-​from-​scratch, gourmet cakes are made at their headquarters, the Collier Road location, and delivered to the other eight stores in Georgia daily!

This was my first Elite Event of the year and it looks like we’re off to a good start! Piece of Cake welcomed us with open arms (and icing) and shared their story, their processes, and their delicious sweets with us. Their cream cheese brownies were phenomenal! They also set up a cupcake station where you could ice & decorate your own cupcake. How cool!
I would be amiss if I didn’t mention the delicious offerings that Second Self Beer Company provided. Their Thai wheat beer really knocked my socks off. I am definitely looking forward to drinking more of their beer and hopefully checking out their brewery some time soon.
Last but not least, TapSnap was set up to take funny pictures. Instead of your typical photobooth, they email your pictures right to you AND, they have some pretty epic backgrounds to choose from.

You gotta love a bakery that wants to celebrate its 30^th birthday with a bunch of Elites!
What a superlative event. We got to sample Piece of Cake’s red velvet and white chocolate mini cupcakes and their lesser known delights like their ice creams, apple butter, peach butter, pepper jelly, brownies, and cookies. The cupcake decorating station was a hit with me, and the TapSnap photobooth was a blast.
The cake decorating competition was a hoot to observe; I was surprised no one decorated a cake with the Unilocal logo. :)
We missed out on the tours of the facility, but that’s cool that those were offered. All of the Piece of Cake staffers were totally welcoming and smiling. I enjoyed talking with the gentleman who was describing all the ingredients that go into their cakes, complete with a giant bowl of egg whites.
Before last night, I’d never been to a physical Piece of Cake location before, but I had tried some cake, thanks to a generous coworker. Now I can’t wait to check out the outpost closest to me and try some other cake varieties like the carrot and strawberry.

If it wasn’t evident from my reviews of the Buckhead (
) and Vinings (
) locations, I’m a big fan of Piece of Cake. There’s a reason why this local business has been around for ~30 years and has been featured on national TV shows like Good Morning America and the Today Show. Their cakes are simply delicious.
Last night’s Elite Event took place at Piece of Cake’s headquarters on Collier Road. The headquarters has bounced around a bit over the years, but Collier Road is currently their base of operations. They opened up their «Party Room» to us for what turned out to be a decent sized event. I guesstimate there were 50+ Unilocalers and +1s in attendance. According to co-​founder/​co-​owner Helen, our event was the first to officially be hosted in their new space.
Helen and business partner Melissa were on-​hand with a full, friendly staff. We got to sample many of Piece of Cake’s products and not just cake. This included ice cream (four flavors: peppermint, chocolate & cinnamon, Georgia pecan, salted caramel — the latter two were my favorites), pecan cookies, chocolate brownies made with cream cheese, and cheese straws, as well as cheese spreads with pepper jelly and apple butter. Complimentary beer was provided by Atlanta’s own Second Shelf Beer Company (the brewery is just down the road off Chattahoochee) and there was wine and bottled water.
There was an interesting demo kitchen with cake ingredients on display. The kitchen was staffed by a Piece of Cake employee who was there to explain the different ingredients and answer any questions we had. There was a cupcake decorating station where we could decorate multiple cupcakes which were then individually boxed so we could enjoy them at home. There were several full fledged Valentine’s Day cakes (estimated $ 30 – 40 in value each), shaped into big hearts, that some lucky folks got to take home. Finally, Ben handed each of us a bag of cookies. The cookies were shaped like the Unilocal logo.
The best part of the night for me was going on a mini tour of the cake production facility. I’ve never seen so much flour and so many cakes in my life! Helen led us on the brief tour, which involved stepping through Piece of Cake’s offices and into the kitchen where workers were skillfully and expertly whipping together cake after cake for next-​day delivery. The workers’ thorough application of icing to each cake was rapid and effortless. It was neat to see the shelves labeled with Piece of Cake destinations such as Dunwoody and Camp Creek.
The cakes we got to try were Red Velvet (my favorite) and White Chocolate, the company’s two best sellers. I was surprised to learn from Helen that White Chocolate outsells Red Velvet 3-​to-​1.
A cake decorating contest was held. Five contestants were chosen at random. They were Lauren H, Mike O, Keo S, Lynn E, and Annie C. They had a few minutes to decorate a cake with icing and toppings. The winner was determined by audience applause. Congratulations, Lauren!
All in all, this event was short and sweet. Thank you Ben, JJ, Brittany (photography), TapSnap (back from the holiday party with their high-​tech green screen photo booth), Second Shelf, Helen, Melissa, and the hospitable people at Piece of Cake. I plan to continue enjoying Piece of Cake products for years to come.

Thanks for the Unilocal Elite event. I don’t spend much time on the Westside so I was a bit worried about finding this location. But it was no problem, even in the dark. They have their own lot with plenty of parking.
This is the main location for Piece of Cake. This is where they bake everything and ship it out. The smells of items cooking are divine! Over the course of the event, I learned about their treats. Not only do they make cakes and cupcakes, they make cookies, cheese straws, butters (peach, honey apple, pepper), and ice cream! They also sell other food items. In a fridge, I noticed that they had prepared appetizers, side dishes, and dinners. There are a few other items, as well. So stop by and check them out.
I tried two mini cupcakes this evening: red velvet and white chocolate. Suprisingly, I liked the white chocolate better than the red velvet. And I really like red velvet. So that says something. But what I truly fell in love with was the honey apple butter. OMG. I plan on buying some once I have exhausted my current jelly supply. The ice cream was also great. In order, I preferred 1) butter pecan, 2) chocolate, 3) peppermint bark, 4) cinnamon, and 5) salted caramel. All the ice creams were nice, rich, and smooth. The salted caramel was the only one I really wasn’t a fan of.
The staff were great hosts. They we were wonderful to talk to and I loved learning from them and watching them work. I brought two cupcakes home with me. The staff told me that they would best be eaten within 3 – 4 days. You can freeze their cakes. They provide me with an instruction card on how to do so properly. Thank you! So helpful. But I think I will eat them before the 4 days are up. :-)
I have tried other flavors from another Piece of Cake location. These really are yummy cupcakes. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

I loved the cake decorating competition. I have never seen people heckling at a cake competition and boy was it fun! Congrats to the winner.
I loved the beer selections too. The beer with ginger was my favorite. What a delightful spin and it was unexpectedly light and refreshing.

Try the white chocolate cake. It’s divine, light — more like a super-​duper vanilla than the cloying white chocolate that you’ve tasted in your past.
Kudos to Ben, JJ and the Unilocal team for another terrific event. Not only was this evening a sweet treat it was also fun to celebrate with TapSnap photos and try the the innovative brews from Second Self.
What a terrific way to celebrate 30 years in business. Hats off to the folks at Piece of Cake for helping Atlanta celebrate in style — — with sweet treats. Their cakes, in the distinctive white box with the red printing, are a sure sign of deliciousness. Tonight we tried the red velvet and white chocolate in cupcake form — but Piece of Cake is known for its cakes! The menu includes cookies, cupcakes, layer cakes and brownies in a wide variety of flavors.
Tonight, we nibbled on their divine pecan chocolate chip cookies, cream cheese brownies, and assortment of savory butters (Pepper jack jelly, Applebutter (you know the kind of delectables you serve with cream cheese to kick a party up several notches)), cheese straws and… Ice cream!
You heard me, ice cream! You can pick up a pint of their special homemade recipe ice cream at your local Piece of Cake. Tonight we sampled peppermint, Georgia pecan, salted Caramel. Super yummy; I can’t wait to serve the Salted Caramel at my next dinner party.
There were several interactive station set up you could decorate a cupcake bucks it and take it home, talk with the chef about the top-​shelf ingredients that go into the cakes, take a tour of the bakery, snap pictures with friends, sample nipple eat and make new friends and there was a cake decorating contest. I was lucky enough to be one of those selected to decorate a cake. I’m still smiling from the experience — — but would like a do-​over to perfect my skills!
