Cafe Intermezzo

Beverage Heaven! A Myriad of Martinis, a slew Coffees Creations, Hot Chocolates, Tons of traditional and herbal Teas, Wines, Aperitifs… they have an entire booklet of a menu devoted to beverages and they darn well should because these people are masters of mixology and baristas extraordinaire!
I could sit here all day and drink one of every tea and coffee on the menu and the remain into the night sipping martinis! The coffee with liqueur and alcohols are luscious– I had the Toffee Coffee over ice which includes a caramel liqueur and schlag on top. They can do any of their coffees over ice, just ask. They create their own drinks so you can ask your server for just about any variation on any drink and their bartenders and baristas will oblige.
That you can get everything you want just how you want it makes this café a superstar in my eyes. I happen to pass the dessert and pastry bar and it was also incredibly enticing. I’m thankful I don’t live here because I’d never go anywhere else!

Desserts were mediocre. Not worth the hype, you can go inside and walk spring to check the cheesecakes and cakes. We didn’t have a good experience there last night. We got a weirdly sliced tiramisu and thin slide of tres leches (JCT has a better version topped w/​counts and almonds). They forgot to give us icecream so we reminded them again. We also sent the cakes back but they didn’t give us new slices of cakes. The small cup of ice cream was like watery and melted inside a small glass cup. Overall we felt it was a waste of money.

Why that, in my 2 days in Atlanta, I’ve been here twice:
1. They have amazing crepes! There are 3 types of flavorful batters you can choose from, and are very filing. If crepes aren’t your thing, they have a myriad of pastas, salads, and entrees to choose from.
2. There is a 60-​page BOOK of beverages. Along with detailing the history of coffees, liquors, and teas, they have one of the largest collections of drinks I have ever seen.
3. The customer service is attentive and warm. The diversity of the staff is a great thing to see, and helps bring in a diverse clientele.
Simply put: if you come to Atlanta and don’t come here, you’re cheating yourself.

Late night coffee and cake. Completely unhealthy and supremely wonderful at Café Intermezo!
We were seated immediately at their plentiful outdoor seating. This is a wonderful people watching spot.
We were told after we ordered our coffee (I had this Nutella awesomeness) to pop in side and some one would help us with our choices. What was great was they had a person dedicated to tell us everything we could want to know!
They had an awesome peanut butter and chocolate cake. (Did I mention I like chocolate?).
Server was on point and just the right amount of sweet!
Overall, solid experience!

I am a semi-​regular here. While the food is pricy, I enjoy the large selection of tea and the atmosphere so nice.
Only issue is that around evenings it gets very crowded, especially on weekends. Though I go after 11pm or before afternoon so it’s no big deal.

Despite it being 30~40 minutes away from my house, I visit occasionally just because of their extremely tasty coffee and cheesecakes.
I also have high bias towards restaurants /​cafes with a good atmosphere, and Café Intermezzo is one of the highest paragons for nice vibes.
I would consider Café Intermezzo as a great place to catch up with an important friend or such, sipping on some of their delicious types of coffee while maybe eating a cheesecake as well.
If you happen to live downtown or don’t mind driving downtown, I would make sure to stop by this place — dinnertimes might have a little bit of wait so you can call beforehand to make sure you won’t be waiting for a while to get to your table.
All in all, great place to meet one or two people and have a delicious treat while doing so!

Overall not bad but a pit pricey for breakfast. The food was excellent and a lot. I had the french toast and it is enough for two people so if you order on for two! The service was very good and timely. Since it is in midtown parking is a bit of a challenge. For three of us not including tip was $ 55. However, I would visit again and order differently. Good spot

Love this location… mainly because it is on the corner of an area I frequented for many years.
Customer service is generally good. Cake is my favorite food so no complaints on the menu. Drinks are good and not week.
Crowds normally start around 10pm on weekend nights. Go really late or earlier.
Even though they sell food, I would suggest it for appetizers, light meal, and desserts.

Possibly the worst place I’ve ever been to… the bartender was surly and food order was mixed up.
The staff is lazy… at best…
If you have a choice, go anywhere else.

This café makes me feel like I’m in Paris. I not only love the décor but the desserts, coffee and atmosphere are amazing. They have a drink menu that’s about 50 pages, ranging from alcoholic beverages, coffee, teas, hot chocolate. You name it, they have it. They also have a separate menu for food, like crepes, and salads. Finally, they have a ton of cakes and cheesecakes to choose from. You can go to the front and they will explain each of their desserts to you and then you can tell them which one you want.
If your the type of person who doesn’t like waiting for a table the. j recommend you go during the day or early evening, on the weekends it gets pretty crowded. We have had to wait around an hour and a half on Friday and Saturday nights around 11pm.
In terms of service, their pretty good considering how busy they can get. Everyone is very friendly. There is a parking structure next to the café and they validate for 2 hours. It’s great for a date and even going there with a group of friends. I highly recommend going, it’s one of my favorite places in Atlanta.

I came here to have coffee/​tea with a friend. The place was almost empty but the service was super slow and there seems to have been some staff confusion. They pride themselves on deserts, but they seem to be just sitting on the shelf waiting to be served — not exactly fresh made. I had the tea — it was okay — nothing to write home to mom about.
One great thing about this place is that there is parking.

Love stopping here for dessert on occasion. I’ve been a loyal customer of Café Intermezzo for more than a decade. However, I’ve never had a dish there that wasn’t dessert, so I can’t comment on their brunch (?), lunch, and dinner options… but if you want to know about dessert come see me.
I love that they have a ridiculous amount of options of cakes and cheesecakes. I mean any person, no matter how picky, will find something that they like. I promise they will have you covered. And the portions are so large that the desserts are easily shared between two or even three people. The thing that I don’t like (on behalf of the sugar-​addicted dessert-​glutton that lives inside of me) is that they don’t have many other desserts besides cakes, cheesecakes, and crepes.
The staff are very friendly and professional. The service flows quickly and they encourage you to sit and enjoy your time there. The patio seating at the Midtown location is quite nice and a perfect place to have a meal on a sunny day.

Came here on a Sunday for brunch around noon and surprisingly there was no wait. We were seated quickly but the service was slow.
If you like dark chocolate and not too much sweet coffee, I would recommend getting the Spanish mocha. The flavor was good but the coffee was not hot at all. For my entrée, I got the lox and naan ($ 12) and it was delicious. It’s basically a big piece of naan divided into eight parts and topped with smoked salmon, cream cheese, tomato and onion. It’s something I can totally make at home. My friend got the chicken florentine crêpe with the sun dried tomato batter. I don’t recommend this at all. The menu was misleading because it looked and tasted like an enchilada. Nothing about it was great. Maybe it’s a great place for dessert, there was around 60 dessert options.
The place is a little expensive for what you get. I don’t think I will going back for food.

— Positives: Good vibes, great atmosphere and the staff is usually always friendly. SO MANY CAKES!!!
— Negatives: Can’t think of any.
— Overall: Cute place, always here honestly. My mom used to take me as a kid, and it’s still one of my favorites.

Parking: No venue parking, so you’re on your own. I typically have good luck finding street parking nearby.
Service: We were seated immediately, and helped right away with drink orders. When it’s busy It can take a bit to see and hear about the cakes and such but service was good.
Food: We tried the nutella cheesecake and it was great! I can’t wait to come back and try different things.
overall experience: A. Good atmosphere, good coffee, great cake!

I remember coming here for my birthday once and it was absolutely delicious. The second time I came I remembered the service more than the food and I was not impressed. I don’t recall the server’s name but she was unpleasant. It felt like she was dragging her feet to serve us, so we flagged down another guy who was in training and offered to get our server’s attention, which was nice.
Sorry I just wasn’t pleased with the particular server and service. I’m sure any other time would be fine and I would come here again. Just not when that lady is serving.

Ok as promised I gave this restaurant a second chance. As you can see it went down a star. This is going to be a sad tale of a restaurant that can’t seem to get it’s shit together. Before I begin I want to say the two stars are not for the food! The chef seem’s to have her shit together (how do I know the chef is a woman? Read on.) Also, This trip was during the holidays around the end of November 2015.
I write a lot and I tend to find my local favorite restaurants to sit in a quite corner and work. On this day I strolled in around 2pm on a weekday. The hostess was super sweet and grabbed a menu and took me to a very small high top table. I asked to be moved to the back glassed in room to spread out and work. She said sure and she would find someone to wait on me. I pulled out my papers and lap top and began to work. After about five minutes the hostess appeared again smiling and said she was working on someone to wait on me. I said I was fine I had work to do and send them over when she could. She approached a waitress on the other side of the glass as I looked on. The motion to my table was made at the same time there was a glance and me and the words «No» came out of her mouth. Another waitress passed and was stopped. They discussed me as if i couldn’t hear them. As if glass was somehow sound proof. The second waitress I will quote «I just got sat two tables and what is he doing in a closed section!?» I was never made aware of this because the hostess was trying to be sweet and give me what I wanted. So, she approached the empty bar and asked the male bartender if he would mind waiting on me. He looked at me and reluctantly said he would take me but if he got someone at the bar he couldn’t come to my table anymore. She walked away from the bar. About 5 minutes later a nice young man approached my table. He stated that he was waiting tables on the patio but would wait on me if i didn’t mind him not coming over very often. He then stated he was doing me a favor since I was in a closed section. I told him I had work to do and didn’t care and that I knew what I wanted. I ordered.
Now I am trying to stay focused and work that’s when I learned a very valuable lesson. «Closed Section» is code for complaint room. An employee enters the room wearing a hoodie and headphones. He sits in the corner. A few minutes later the manager and chef enter the room. Next thing I know I am a fly on the wall at an employee write up. The waiter had been late and had argued with a customer who complained. Then they read a Unilocal review to him they had received stating his bad service. Then they discussed how many times he was late. The chef stated she was sick of his attitude. The manager said she asked him to bus a table and he refused. She then told him she would bus it herself if need be but then recanted and said she would not bus a table but would find someone to do it. I feel like this is the moment they fire him but instead place him on notice with a threat to fire him if he was ever late again. He is dismissed. Then the sweet hostess returns because a customer wants a blanket on the porch cause they are cold. A very interesting dialogue begins about moving her but she insist on sitting outside and doesn’t understand why they would not provide blankets. Then the bartender enters to complain about the lack of side work done by the night staff. I’m done eating at this point and ask for the check. I leave but not with my work done. I leave with this story on my mind. A story I hate to tell cause my nieces love to get coffee and dessert here every time they stop in Atlanta. But it must be told because customer service is dead. The manager and chef shouldn’t have had the one waiter in a meeting. They needed to have the entire staff back there. I have asked before that they step it up. SO PLEASE LISTEN! I will return when my nieces come to town for a wedding next month. We will try it again. I hope it’s not a chance for them to (yet again) lose another star. But, hopefully a chance to earn one.

The bf and I had a midnight craving for some sweets and continued our weekend date at this hot date spot. We arrived at 12:50am, waited until 1:09am to be seated; it was quite busy even at this hour. The wait would have been shorter if we settled with outdoor seating but it was a cold night and we didn’t want that. While we waited, there just happened to a staff person giving «tours» of each of the two window cake displays. This was very helpful and helped me to decide on getting the Oreo Cheesecake (which is also their #1 seller). The bf wanted a sweet drink only and ordered the Mexican Hot Chocolate.
The Oreo cheesecake was delicious. Very light, airy, fluffy… very delightful. It was generous in amount and we couldn’t even finish it.
The Mexican Hot Chocolate was tasty, too. We especially liked the dusted cinnamon. It was sweet but we both felt it was still very drinkable towards the end, when we were both feeling like our sweetness tastebuds have been saturated.
We knew this place is popular for dates, but we don’t go to places labeled as such and we were impressed by how super date-​like this place was; just about everyone else was a couple, as well. But singles, don’t fret, we didn’t see any PDA. We were seated close enough to other couples’ tables to pretty much hear their entire conversation but that wasn’t too much of a bother.
Service was no complaints.

I have loved Café Intermezzo since my first visit to Atlanta over 10 years ago. This lovely café has maintained its intimate vibe and trendy following after all these years. This location is definitely much busier than the Peremeter location, on a Friday or Saturday evening the wait is sometimes over a hour at this location. There is a parking deck as well as several parking lots close by. If you park in the parking deck the resturant will validate your ticket and the first 2 hours are free.
My favorite dishes are the Greek Salad (probably the best in town), and the chicken sandwich. Typically, I order the Vanilla Chai Tea but I have had several other flavors of tea and enjoyed them all. The white hot chocolate is also one of my favorites, it’s rich and creamy and you can replace the whole milk with soy or skim. The menu is full of creative drinks. This is definitely a place perfect for a date, a one on one business meeting, or even a group of friends gathering for some good convo.
One of the highlights of Café Intermezzo are the desserts. There is large selection to choose from of fresh cakes and there is always someone at the dessert counter to describe each cake to you. They have a cheese cake side and a regular cake side. The cakes are usually very rich and a little pricey but you are paying for the ambiance. They don’t have the best cakes around but they are definitely good. The Customer service is always wonderful. Inspite of the long waits at this location Café Intermezzo will always have a special place in my heart.

I love the desserts, but it’s always a very long wait for us. We paid $ 10 and the simple slice of cheesecake was broken and tiny. For $ 10 we could have at least had a full slice. Not impressed, but the taste was amazing as always. Love Hate relationship…

I’m the group Unilocaler. While some people thought the food not half bad, I guess it safe to say that by and large, we weren’t enamored with Café Intermezzo.
My husband had chicken salad on a croissant; the chicken salad ‘ok,’ the croissant, and accompanying pasta salad, pretty good! My grilled chicken sandwich was a big nothing: dry and tasteless.
«Forget lunch there,» my daughter said. «Get cheese cake and boozy coffee.» Well, ixnay to dessert, but we did get an Irish and Mexican coffee, and gotta say, I’ve had better.
They tack on a 20% gratuity for groups. (Isn’t 18% standard?!) And for a nothin’ with nothin’ meal, we spent a pretty penny. Oh well.

Okay, for starters I enjoy café intermezzo. Nice ambience, great cheesecake, pleasant coffee. However, every time I am there (and I mean every time) it is a hassle to get good (not even great) customer service. After you wait about 30 – 40 mins you still have to wait another 10 – 15 or so to get greeted by your server. After the greeting it’s usually okay because the food and drinks and server then make up for it. Nevertheless on today’s experience which was Valentine’s Day, I got to witness the most CATTY, condescending, disrespectful and distasteful waitress in the history of my dining out in Atlanta. Not only was this young lady, Jackie (may be spelled Jacque or Jackey — claims to be events coordinator on week days) rude she was the epitome of unprofessional. When asked if we could move to the table right across she said «No, I think you’re fine where you are» amongst a few other things I’d rather not say on here. Luckily her boss apologized and explained that she had already received numerous complaints over the weekend and was about to get sent home for the night because of the embarrassment she had already caused the business.
Overall it was good to know that management was well aware of the poor customer service this young lady provided and despite my unpleasant experience tonight I’ll go back again in the future because my feedback was appreciated in a professional manner. Let me just end this by saying that café intermezzo will not be my first option when I’m in the mood for coffee and cake. At Least not this location.

A friend suggested café intermezzo and I came here on Valentine’s Day. The drink menu lives up to the hype. There is a table of contents for the drink menu which is approx 60 pages long with any type of drink you can imagine (sake, virgin cocktails, coffee, tea, etc.) I also love the detailed descriptions about each drink.
We had the spiced Indian chai with streamed soy and Belgian hot chocolate (hazelnut flavors). If you like real melted chocolate at the bottom of your cup this drink is for you.
For food we started with the seafood dip per other Unilocal reviews which came with crackers and lightly toasted bread. The dip is AMAZING in line with the other reviews. It’s creamy, not fishy, and hits the spot. For the main dish we each tried a crêpe. They offer white, sun-​dried tomato, and spinach batter. We had the chicken florentine crêpe with sun-​dried tomato base and duck crêpe with figs in the regular white base. The duck and figs have a strong game-​y taste, but overall we were satisfied. We didn’t have have room for dessert but definitely would try this place again because the cakes on display looked amazing.
Minus one star because the hostess was rude and wouldn’t sit us inside despite several empty tables.

This romantic French café never lets us down when we need our dessert fix. I must admit I do miss the original quiet quaint location on the south end of buckhead, but I guess it was time to expand. The service is as great as the desserts!

Classy little café, plenty of desserts to choose from and good food.
Price: Like everything else located in midtown it was expensive. $ 7 for a medium size white hot chocolate mug and $ 17 for chicken Florentine on a bed of spinach and topped with cream spinach/​artichoke and fresh Parmesan. No refills on soft drinks, like lemonade for example but do give refills on ginger ale. Be prepared to open your wallet.
Décor: Nice dark woods and little tables… and when I say little I mean little! We decided to move to another table just to get more space.
Flavor: Food was very good and pretty well proportioned.
Parking: They don’t have valet parking which considering the prices they are charging is a real down side. But they do offer free validated parking (2 hours) in the Loews hotel garage which is right up the street. *Side note: having a pricey midtown restaurant should come standard with certain things.**
Return visit: Will definitely return.

After dinner, I went with some friends for coffee. We each ordered a different coffee (there are a TON of choices) and we enjoyed each of them. We also ordered some of the cakes, all very delicious. The only downfall is that it is a little expensive, but it’s high quality. It was also VERY crowded, but it was later on a Friday night. Also, parking can be a little crazy around there. Most of the lots cost $ 10. However, around the corner from the café (on 12^th street between Juniper and Peachtree) there is an inside parking deck, it looks like it is part of the hotel that is there on the corner. You can get your parking validated for free for 2 hours inside Intermezzo!

I have been a big fan of Café Intermezzo, but have not so stellar experiences as of late. My ex and I would go here when they were in the Brookwood area. This area is closer to me, but the parking is a bigger pain. So I don’t go that often. Café Intermezzo is perfect for late night dining. And you can have breakfast food at any time.
I have been here a few times. The first visit was quite interesting as a customer was having a disagreement with a waiter and it got quite loud and the customer felt the need to announce to the restaurant how unfairly she was being treated. Don’t know the whole story, but it was very weird. Also, there was something slippery with the floor and customer kept slipping at one area. I typically order breakfast here — usual choice is french toast. While the food is good, I HATE their syrup.
On another visit, I ordered the BEEF AU JUS — tender braised beef with balsamic caramelized onions, mayonnaise and topped with smoked gouda served on a French baguette with au jus for dipping. I wasn’t a big fan. My date also didn’t enjoy his food very much. But their drinks are AMAZING. The menu is so huge — I’ve never seen a place with such a huge drink menu. I went with one of their hot chocolates. Oh man! Amazing. We also ordered a few pieces of cake. You can go to the cases and staff will walk you through the various options. Mostly cake, but there are other desserts, as well. My choice was better than my date’s but we weren’t in love with either. We have decided that perhaps we will stop in for drinks and share a dessert (since it so much after eating dinner — the slices are quite big) since our favorite items are the drinks.

The setup
A coworker and I were discussing the best cheesecake in Atlanta. She offered up Café Intermezzo, and I said that I hadn’t been in ages and would need to assess her claim. So when a friend invited me to the Midtown location for dessert, I was all for that plan since I’m always down for an opportunity to evaluate desserts.
Parking
I entered the ¹⁰⁷⁵⁄₁₀₆₅ parking deck from 12^th Street; there’s also an entrance off 11^th Street. I was able to get a validated ticket later from the server. Good thing too since no way I’d be paying $ 12 for less than two hours otherwise. Sheesh.
Atmosphere
Dim and more dim. The tables are a bit on the small size but doable. The space is rather sprawling so if you’re meeting people and they’ve been seated already, you may want to call/​text them instead of just wandering around aimlessly. We were seated in the back room, and my seat faced out to Peachtree so I was slightly distracted anytime flashing lights from emergency vehicles whizzed by. Café Intermezzo is open late too, so it’s perfect for a late night sweet attack.
Desserts
I thought the whole dessert tour was a bit annoying since you had to get up and then get a tour of the case from the guide while standing in the aisle and blocking it. If Café Intermezzo can print a booklet of beverages, why not a booklet of sweets? The server informed us that 140 desserts were available, with about 50 presented in the cases. Whoa. One case seemed to be devoted to cheesecakes alone. Option overload.

I went with the ebony and ivory cheesecake which I will admit, got partly because of the Paul McCartney-​Stevie Wonder song. But you can’t go wrong with this option since you get a little chocolate cheesecake (with ganache layer on top) and a little white chocolate cheesecake. And there’s a dollop of whipped cream too. Yum. Dense but not super dense. The best in Atlanta? Maybe not, but certainly a contender. And you can’t beat the actual selection of cheesecakes.
Bathrooms
The bathrooms are to the far left, if you’re staring at the dessert case from the entrance. When I walked in, there was an Italian language tape playing that I swear was for cheating spouses since there were weird phrases like «I want a divorce» and «I want to meet him» being taught. Huh.
Service
Our server was quite friendly and nice though she became a little less attentive later on. She didn’t ask how we wanted our checks so my cheesecake and the items my friends got all ended up on one bill.
Conclusion
You can’t beat the dessert selection here. Not the best cheesecake in Atlanta, but Café Intermezzo has a fab selection of ‘em, and they’re not bad. An A-​OK joint.

I used to be a fan of Intermezzo back in the day when they were down the street. I was excited to check out the new location, which looked beautiful as I walked in. The place wasn’t that busy. We were seated on the heated patio alone and were greeted by a very friendly server whose name I will not mention.
Unfortunately, my excitement stopped there.
We were in celebration mode, so we immediately ordered a couple of drinks. My daughter’s hot chocolate arrived after about 10 minutes. 20 minutes (!!!) later our cocktails arrived. My mom’s drink, a pisco sour, was made incorrectly and she sent it back. I sat with my drink waiting for hers to come back so we could drink together and another 20 minutes passed. By the time her drink came back, mine was warm and my daughter’s hot chocolate was gone. When our server asked if I wanted another cocktail I declined. No way was I waiting another 20 minutes for a drink.
Let’s talk about the food. I’d love to tell you all about it, but we only ordered one appetizer to share. We had plans to eat lunch, but I believe wholeheartedly in not rewarding bad service with more money. So we just stuck to our crab dip, which was actually pretty tasty. It did not come with enough toast points. Our server offered to bring more. In fact, she said she already had them in the oven. They did not show up for another, you guessed it, 20 minutes. By that time our crab dip was cold.
I was totally ready to go at this point, but my mom and daughter both wanted dessert. The cakes were nothing special. Truly.
My mom ordered coffee to go with her cake and she only confessed to me after we left that the coffee was served lukewarm because she knew I was about to blow my top.
Café Intermezzo offers two hours of parking validation, but we were there for so long that we actually had to pay an additiononal $ 3 once we finally made it to our car.
Needless to say, I won’t be back.

Oh how I long to love Café Intermezzo. It has all the pieces of an Atlanta gem: prime location, intimate lighting, and a display case full of cake. And yet! Always disappointed.
FOOD
I’ve ordered crepes, slices of cake, hot chocolate, and sandwiches here. Generally the food is adequate but not astounding.
SERVICE
The wait staff here is slow – perhaps deliberately to give you an unrushed feeling but also possibly because it would take too much effort to be efficient. Ordering cake is the absolute worst since you must line up in front of the cake case, talk to the man/​woman writing the cake tickets, bring the ticket back to your server (who may disappear for 20 minutes), and then the server will finally go back to the cake display case and cut you a slice. The whole thing is ridiculous since the dim lighting means that the server may not even see you have a cake ticket in the first place.
PARKING
Note that Café Intermezzo validates parking in the 1010 Midtown lot but not the 1075 Midtown lot. You must talk to the server, who has parking tickets in his/​her pocket.
Despite it all, sometimes you have a craving for a European café atmosphere to catch up with old friends. You don’t mind paying for expensive cake and coffee. Then and only then should you come to Café Intermezzo!

Came late night for food and drinks. There looked to be a line when we got there, but I guess it was all large groups. We got a table for 2 and sat down immediately. The actual table was small, and against a wall, but I guess they were going for a Euro feel, so I understand.
We ordered a bottle of champagne which was pretty reasonable in price. I ordered a caprese salad with chicken (pretty expensive for what it was), and my date ordered tortellini with chicken. Both were good. She then ordered a tiramisu for dessert, which she said was outstanding. The service, atmosphere and pace of the meal was all very nice. The food was pretty good, and considering the time we came in to eat, its hard to get better food at that time of night during the week.

Can’t get sick of this place because their cheesecakes are just so freaking delicious!
I usually pair my dessert with some hot tea and they definitely have a lot to choose from.
I’ve also had their almond latte (I believe they call it a Caffe Intermezzo). Another favorite is their nutella hot chocolate.
It’s a good spot to chill with friends or even for a date :)

I rarely give 5-​star reviews to restaurants as I can be a little picky, but this place deserves it.
Reasons:
1. I didn’t order off their drink menu, but it was impressive: a mini booklet with about SIXTY+ PAGES of drinks, including alcoholic drinks (martinis, cocktails, etc.), non-​alcoholic (hot chocolates, teas), etc. We saw a waiter carrying one of the hot chocolate orders and it looked fantastic.
2. Waitstaff was courteous and friendly, and when I asked for a recommendation she provided one. I would have liked my water glass to be refilled a little more quickly, but no big deal.
3. The food was great. I ordered the smoked turkey and brie crêpe, and it was delicious.
4. The atmosphere — they style it like a European café and the details are great. The bathrooms are even gilded gold (or they look like it, anyways) and were nice.
5. I met up with two friends here and it was a nice place to have brunch. If I lived in the area, I could see myself coming back for drinks at some point too.
They have two other locations as well, one of which was the B terminal at ATL which was pretty cool, though I didn’t get to go when I left Atlanta. I’d like to come back here next time I’m in the area.

I’d been to the Perimeter location (some 2 – 3 years ago) before but last Friday was my first time at the Midtown.
You can’t go wrong with Café Intermezzo if you want a casual yet upscale dining experience. We had just flown 5 hours from the west coast and wanted a satisfying meal. CI hit the spot!
The slow-​beef is so good. Like Grandma wrapped you in a warm hug. It’s so tender and juicy on a mound of mashed potatoes. That’s comfort food, man! I just really enjoy food like that and I was happy they had it. Really hit the spot.
The $ 10 parking lot across the street is bogus. Find somewhere else and park! We didn’t know any better. :(

Café Intermezzo can be considered an Atlanta tradition. The business has been around since 1979 and is a quintessential date, coffee, and dessert spot. I’ve always thought it was a little overrated and still do. I rarely describe businesses as «overrated,» but I’ve just always had that feeling with Intermezzo. That’s not to say there’s anything wrong with the place — I just don’t get as excited about it as many others seem to do.
Café Intermezzo is popular. Late at night, particularly on weekends, this place gets packed. I visited the old location in Brookwood (
) several times before it moved down the street to its current location in Midtown. The current location is an improvement over the old one. It’s newer, bigger, and roomier while still maintaining the classic European charm the café has become known for.
The café is attached to the Loews Hotel in the 12^th & Midtown mixed-​use development. Metered street parking is available nearby, but your best bet is probably going to be the Loews Hotel parking garage located around the corner. The café will validate your parking in this garage for up to two hours.
Intermezzo means interval or break. The café is designed to look like a traditional European coffeehouse. It’s elegant and ornate. At night, it’s candle-​lit and the atmosphere is quite romantic. The fine quality cupware and dishware match the café’s theme. Multiple sections of intimate seating (small tables) are available inside, including an enclosed patio. There’s seating on the wide sidewalk outside too. This is an ideal place for couples and it also works well for groups.
Intermezzo has two glass displays containing a total of 60 – 70 cakes, pastries, mousses, and other sweet desserts at any given time. The bakery offers about 135 desserts total, so the selection can often change each time you visit. The displays are staffed by what the café refers to as «tour guides.» These are simply employees who can explain each item in the display, answer any questions you may have, and will write down your order on a slip of paper. You then take this slip of paper back to your table and hand it to your server who will see the order through. Alternatively, if you already know what you want from the display (s), you can skip the «tour guide» part and tell your server directly.
Prices are not displayed next to the desserts, but the tour guides will tell you if you ask. Generally, you can expect to spend about $ 8 for each dessert or slice of cake. It’s not exactly cheap, but you are paying for higher quality, gourmet concoctions (examples below).
The Frutti di Bosco (literal translation: «Fruits of the Forest») is one of the café’s most popular items. It’s imported from Italy. It’s made from five different types of berries: blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, and black and red currants. The middle layer is a vanilla pastry cream. All of this is held together with a thin tasty crust. If you like fruits, berries, or tarts, this is the cake for you.
The tiramisu is good, though not significantly better than other well-​prepared tiramisus I’ve had around town. Intermezzo’s version seems exceptionally light and delicate, and noticeably more bitter than sweet. The Oreo cake is amazing and one of my favorites. Most of the desserts come with a small side dollop of rich whipped cream.
Intermezzo has an elaborate 70-​page beverage menu with roughly 1,200 beverages. They call it the «beverage book.» If you don’t have an idea what type of beverage you want, flipping through the book can be overwhelming. There’s so much to choose from, from specialty coffee drinks to assorted alcoholic beverages. My advice: Start with the table of contents and look for the drink categories that interest you. You can also ask your server for recommendations. They are very helpful in this regard because they can also suggest beverages based on how well they pair with your food order (s).
I like the cioccoloccino which is basically hot chocolate with two shots of espresso. More accurately described, it’s made with Dutch chocolate, cream, espresso, schlag (whipped cream), and cocoa powder. A twist on the cioccoloccino is the cioccoloccino blanco, which is made with white chocolate instead of dark. Depending on your sensitivity to sugar and caffeine, this drink can get you wired for a few hours.
There is an extensive selection of tea. They include black, green, herbal, and Asian teas such as matcha and oolong. If you don’t want coffee or alcohol, these are a good, healthy alternative. I like the Cochin masala chai which is made with South Indian masala (spice mix) that includes cardamom and ginger. It’s served in a tea kettle with a French press.
Service is good. The servers are formally dressed in white uniforms. They are helpful and seem sufficiently knowledgeable when it comes to the menus.

Came here around 1 a.m. after a Saturday night — the place was almost packed!
We came just for coffee and sat outside at one of the «open» tables.
The coffee was EXCELLENT — if not one of the best I’d ever had.
This is a much nicer than average place — and dressier. They have a food menu, seating, and a lot of folks were here enjoying themselves.
I’d return!

Went here for a late night date. It has a great vibe. Wait service was good– attentive but patient. Wide variety of drink options and dessert choices. A good place to go if you want to chat with someone special around midnight– not too crowded, intimate lighting, good ambient noise, tasty snack options.
