We love this studio! My 7 year old daughter has a great time in clay class with teacher Tania, who is wonderful and patient. The atmosphere is creative and relaxed. I also like shopping here for gifts — there always seems to be at least a few things I want to buy. I highly recommend this studio for kids classes!

Had a great experience here on Saturday when I was doing some holiday shopping. I was greeted by the artists at work who took time to tell me about the store, but then left me along to shop. There was a great vibe to the place. For all handmade pieces, there prices were pretty reasonable and there was a good range. You could get something for $ 10 or for $ 200. I bought 3 pieces, different types of bowls. I’ll keep checking in when I need a gift or something for my place.

I and my girlfriends had a rocking fun Girls Night Out at Cabbagetown Clay and Glass Works. Our group consisted of 7 novices, ages ranging from early 30’s to mid 50’s. We were allowed to put out a simple spread of wine and nibbles at the beginning of the evening, and I could even hook up my ipod to provide appropriate mood music(my 80’s playlist and, of course, Unchained Melody). Because this studio has three wheels(there is a fourth, fancier looking wheel off to the side), we went in shifts to try our hand at wheel-throwing. Working in shifts turned out to be ideal because it allowed for more socializing. Devanie, our instructor, was great — patient and helpful and funny! We’d been warned that our first efforts at wheel-throwing might not be successful, but each of us happily ended up with unique, beautiful(in the eye of the beholder) containers. Just a perfect experience. (As a side note, I’d originally contacted Mudfire Studio for the Girls Night Out. They are very, very nice, but they are over double the amount of money and far less flexible than Cabbagetown Clay. I was told that the reason for the higher cost is that they’ve got 17 wheels and a dedicated group event space that incurs overhead like airconditioning. My impression is that they do a lot of corporate teamwork events. Cabbagetown Clay was a much better«fit» for me and my girlfriends.) Update: Second Girls Night Out with a different group of girlfriends was just as fabulous and fun!

Working pottery just off of Memorial Drive near Oakland Cemetery. I contacted an artist on etsy who works out of here, and she was nice enough to meet me in person. Her work is gorgeous as is that of other artists there. Definitely worth a stop if you’re looking for something handmade and beautiful. They also offer classes if you’re interested in making something yourself. Check it out!
