Briarcliff Haven Health and Rehab Center

So I am looking for a place to have my mother cared for in short term rehab. My husband calls ahead to say I will be stopping for a tour. I arrive, no parking, NONE. Have to park in an adjacent lot and walk, dealt with it. I arrive and the receptionist glared at me when I entered building. She didn’t speak to me until I was standing at her counter and leaning into her space. Only then did she say «Can I help you.» Flat, expressionless. «I’m here for a tour.» She hands me a clipboard and tells me to fill the paper out and someone will come get me. Then she pages someone. When i complete the form, I take it to the counter at which time the individual paged, listlessly comes out of a door next to the receptionist’s station, makes no eye contact with me, looks at clipboard, then half smiles and asks me if I want a tour. The tour consisted of showing me all of the administration’s office doors, the gym and cafeteria. Along the way, not a single staff member made eye contact with me much less acknowledged or greeted me. The hallways were full of equipment and the place felt like an underfunded urban ER out of a bad movie. Look, I work in a hospital. An unhappy staff (which this place clearly has) equals poor treatment, period. I don’t know why I even bothered to ‘tour’ the place. The first few minutes told me everything I needed to know. No thanks.

My Dad spent time here in their rehabilitation facilities. The place has a rehabilitation portion and a long-​term resident portion. It’s for elderly with serious physical/​medical problems.
The majority of the staff are very kind and attentive. I liked the physical therapists as well. My Dad didn’t participate in the daily activities, but there are multiple things that happen each day (church services, games, movies, etc).
The food is much better than one would expect. It can be delivered to the room, or if the person is able to head to the dining hall, they can order off a menu, which is nice. Having choices can be a good motivation for someone to get out of bed.
Nearly all the rooms have two beds, which is typical. They have TVs already installed in all the rehabilitation rooms, although they only get basic cable.
There are no restrictions on visiting hours, and there is plenty of parking.
