Barking Hound Village Lofts

This place is great.
They’re always so accommodating with my pup, especially when I forget until a day before that I need to board her, and she’s always worn out by how much play time she gets. I appreciate the friendly staff! Do get your dog a bath before you pick them up, you wont be disappointed you did so.

Used them for daycare while traveling with our furry child in atlanta, but very disappointed with it. Actually only left or pup there for 4 hrs and picked her up, with the cameras we observed that the dogs were outside but just sitting or standing all crammed up on a doggie ramp. They have gravel/​rocks outside and from experience most dogs don’t like to run on that as it hurts their paws. So all the dogs were just sitting on the ramp instead of playing. Maybe this is fine for other owners, but for me its not, they advertise «athletic club stay» and letting your dog outside all day to run and get tired out, but they don’t have the conditions for them to do so. My dog is high energy and very social, used to different daycare set ups and i watched her during the time she was there just standing on the ramp and laying on the rocks as the other dogs where just in the ramp and the caregiver never engaged them to play. Not a great experience for us.

I am so torn with only giving 3 stars however I feel as though there are some things they definitely need to address.
I brought my dogs here for daycare last week. I ended up boarding them for 2 nights and when I picked them up the smell in the establishment was disgusting. I have taken my dogs to daycare at plenty of different places over the years and I have never smelled anything like this especially at such a nice place. When I dropped them off the smell was not as bad so maybe they deep clean on certain days out of the week? It probably would not be that big of a deal, however, my dogs smelled so horrible. I had to bathe them multiple times when they came home. I cannot figure out any logical reason my dogs should smell that bad. I understand they get all worked up and smell like… well… dogs after daycare but they should NOT smell like they have been rolling around in dog crap for 2 days.
Now that I have got that out of the way, I have to say I was really impressed with their service. They were flexible with my scheduling, provided detailed feedback and made my dogs feel very comfortable in the new environment. I especially liked that they post photos to Facebook! Although my dogs clearly played someone into thinking they needed to be carried around! But if they were ok with being carried, the staff must have been taking very good care of them!
Would I take my dogs back? … Not sure… I don’t know that I want to have to bathe my dogs multiple times after picking them up.

I’ve been taking my pug here for years, and should have written this earlier. Now, pugs are «special» (like your dog, I’m sure) and my Ziva is always relaxed when we go there– despite my usual mission of getting her nails clipped (5 dollahs, oh yeah). All the dogs there seem happy, and all the people working there are clearly «dog people». Parking is easy and on site, and I am always told to «bring her on over» when I call for a bath or nails etc. Your special buddy will like it :)

I have been taking Bailey to BHV Lofts since January of this year. I truly can’t say enough good things about Brooks and his team. It’s obvious they care for her and she loves playing each day. She races off without looking back. BHV Lofts has really been a godsend for Bailey and me.

I have been taking my dog to this location for 5 – 7 years and have always been impressed by the friendliness and professionalism of the staff, specifically Brooks the manager.
My dog caught something there through no fault of BHV and the staff, specifically Brooks, acted quickly, compassionately, and logically. I’ll be back.

I boarded my dog here over a weekend. They do offer a free day of daycare with any boarding reservation to test your dog’s temperament and see if he will be okay. It wasn’t terrible but I will be researching other boarders before I bring my dog back.
This location is pretty easy to find and has a modest sized parking lot. The staff members I talked to were very easy-​going and friendly. I was boarding my dog in their lowest priced space (Junior Boarding), but I expressed concern about the shelter-​like atmosphere and that I might want to upgrade him so he wouldn’t be caged up (he is a rescue from a high kill shelter and being caged makes him VERY anxious), but they assured me they would let me know how he did first before I made any decisions. According to the report card (cute!) they gave me, he was fine so I did not change his reservation.
They have webcams and upload Facebook pictures the day after. I appreciate this, but wish there were more webcams feeds available.
My 2-​star review is because I wasn’t a fan of the accommodations (I might be spoiled by my dog’s usual boarder, which is cage-​free) and my dog was injured here and I wasn’t told about it. He got some kind of cut on his paw, which then got infected (probably due to nobody noticing), and I was never notified. I know it happened here because I discovered the wound the day I took him home. I’m still giving BHV 2 stars (if I could I’d give 2.5) because I don’t think anyone noticed the injury, the staff was very friendly, and everything else (besides the injury) was fine.
I don’t recommend, unless you have done your research and toured the facility and feel good about the place. I will be looking for another boarder, should I need one, and will only return here if I cannot find anything else.

My dog — Lucille, a westie rescue — has only been to BHV for daycare /​boarding, which has been lovely. The first time I brought her, she played all day, and came home exhausted — but with a stellar report card (such a cute touch for her first visit). The report card was reassuring since I didn’t know how it would go for her for her first time at daycare (and for me as her new mom!). Since then, she’s been multiple times and always comes home happy, sleepy and filthy! I figure that’s the formula for a happy pup. I love pulling up the webcam while I’m at work and searching for this little marshmallow. It’s reassuring to see the staff out there with the doggies — one day, I watched one pick her up and dance with her a little. When he put her down, she immediately asked to be picked up again, which he did. Lucille found a little boyfriend at BHV.
BHV has the nicest staff. From the moment I came in with her vet records to inquire about boarding and daycare, they were knowledgeable, friendly and competent. I love their enthusiasm for dogs and the way they treat my little lady like a person, cheerfully telling her «bye Lucille!» at the end of a successful day. The dogs are always so happy when they’re dropped off in the morning. And I know by the way my dog pulls at the leash to get inside, that she’s super excited to be there.
Daycare is super easy. I just drop her off with her food each day and pick her up in the evening when I’m on my way home. It takes no time at all, and it’s a great comfort for me to have this great service in my neighborhood when I know I’m going to have a long day at work. I’m glad she’s being cared for while she’s getting the exercise and playtime she needs while I’m out.
How amazing it must be to start every day as a dog — BHV brings a little of this magic to each of their customers — both human and canine.

At first I really did like barking hound. It was close to my house, the price was reasonable and SOME of the staff was lovely. However, my dog was attacked by another dog and NONE of the staff saw what exactly happened and he ended up going to the hospital. Another time I was picking my dog up from daycare, they usually tell me the price for the day (in which is the same price everyday) but that day it was increased. I asked the young lady why my price was increased and she told me she would check on it. The manager told me that they which my dog to the athletic club without asking me. I asked the manager why didn’t they let me know and his response with an attitude was «well it’s only a $ 3 increase «. Last time I checked I was the owner in which I should be notified in a switch in kennels and it’s my money that I’m paying for him to come to daycare at this place.

BHV Lofts are absolutely fantastic. I am an obsessive mom, and I know that my fur baby is safe and happy for both daycare and grooming. The resident groomer, Jillian, is the best and always does a fantastic job with Apollo’s crazy haircut. All of the staff are so nice and they really take the time to get to know the dogs. I would never consider taking Apollo anywhere else!

Love this place. I’ve been taking my dog here for daycare since she was old enough to come. I’ve always loved it; everyone’s SUPER nice, helpful, and accommodating-​even when I have crazy-​dog-​mom requests. It’s sweet that all the people working here remember my pup’s name when she comes in.
I always knew I liked this place, but I didn’t realize how much my dog liked it until lately. She always gets excited when we pull into barking hounds parking lot, and I never have trouble getting her to get out of the car or go inside. She went to a different doggie daycare for a few weeks, while I was working in a different place temporarily. By the 3^rd day of the other daycare place, she was tucking her tail and refused to get out of the car when we pulled in! I had to force her inside. I felt so bad leaving her, and I missed barking hounds. She’s hasn’t done that since we’ve been back at BHV. That proves to me they’re treating the dogs well here.
She comes home a little dirty and with a few small scratches sometimes, but I just take it as a sign she played hard. And that’s totally unavoidable when there are a bunch of dogs in one place.

There are a lot of great things to write about this place — they separate dogs by size in the play groups, as some other doggie day care spots in the area do not. The owner is super nice and pays careful attention to each individual dog (and there are many dogs that go here!). They also post pictures of the pups each day on Facebook, and the first day your dog goes there, they give you a super cute report card of how they did. Their prices are also quite reasonable for what you get. I also need to say how one time we were running late to pick them up by the 8pm closing time, and Brooks was super cool and accommodating about it.
However, there are a few not so great things which made me subtract a star. Recently, when they handed my pups to my boyfriend as he went to pick them up, they had attached one of their leashes to the key ring holding my dog’s name tag, instead of the actual ring on the collar. The key ring is much flimsier, and it actually snapped as my boyfriend was walking home, and our dog was freely walking on the sidewalk before my boyfriend could react to what happened. Luckily, he was only 10 feet away from our front door, but obviously the outcome could’ve been a whole lot worse. Of course, one could argue that it is on us to make sure that the leash is affixed properly, but perhaps I am wrong in assuming that a business that literally attaches leashes to dogs each and every day wouldn’t make a mistake like this. What’s worse is that when my boyfriend told them what happened the next time we went, although they offered to reimburse us for the new name tag ring, they said this happens more than they’d like to admit. That’s a bit of a red flag to me, and definitely something to be mindful of.
Something else that isn’t so great about Lofts is the customer service towards the end of the day when you pick up your dogs. Depending on who’s working, you might not have a word spoken to you for 5 or so minutes while you wait for them to notice you/​ask you what dog you’re picking up. You get the impression some people just don’t want to be there… The customer has to wait for a long time and this is not acknowledged from time to time, depending on who’s behind the desk.
Other than those things, we love this place :)

The staff here is the nicest in town!
They are so ready to answer questions, super friendly and not snotty — willing to help and check on your pup, etc.
I have friends that swear by BHV (including my favorite dog rescue organization in town — Adopt a Golden Atlanta).
I’ll likely only use BHV (and only THIS BHV bc/​I didn’t love the Westside one) in a pinch. It won’t be a spot I go to often just yet, because of my dog’s specific needs. It’s so close to the house that I can definitely see using them as my alternate, though. And when my pup is old enough (1year) for Athletic Club, it’s on.

Reasons we won’t go often until Athletic Club, and overview of Daycare:
My puppy is a bully mix so he needs a LOT of playtime. His energy is boundless, so the only thing that wears him out is a FULL day of play.
At BHV your dog goes out for an hour and a half, a couple times a day (depending on what time you dropoff & pickup they could get a few more/​less runs out).
When they’re not out they’re in a run inside. So it’s about half and half… ish…
The yards are gravel, so the pee sinks down through the rocks, and that’s kind of nice.
The staff, again — is my favorite in town. So sweet, so helpful, very knowledgeable.
However, my pup needs a lot more playtime than this set up allows.
Also when my puppy is in the run he just pees all over himself.
Note: he did not smell like Feces like another place I’ve gone! It just smelled like he peed all over his run and laid in it (which is why I don’t want him in a run).
Worth noting: The staff was SUPER transparent about him peeing all in his run, though, and even said — Hey his towel you sent him with is in the wash bc/​it was covered in pee. Again — I love the honesty and it’s crucial in picking a place for your dog!
Atmosphere:
On my tour I really did love the way I saw the big dogs go out! It was so cute.
The guy opened all the cages, and all of the big dogs got so excited and all rushed out the door. I assume this is how they send out the little dogs, too. The dogs loved it. BHV’s staff was also super open on the tour, and very welcoming.

BHV’s set up was all a little much for my man though and he seemed pretty shell shocked from the back/​forth action (somewhat expected on day 1 but my permanent place didn’t ever have this effect on him). He was weirded out for like 3 days.
BHV is going to be who they are, and I applaud their different approach to daycare because it’s unique to daycares in town and I’m sure they have their reasons for this structure.
One small constructive criticism I’d offer regarding trial day approach:
BHV promises a photo of your dog «having fun on his 1^st day!».
A bit of a magic-​ruiner was when I saw my dog on camera — going out for a special «photo-​opp» trip to the yard with one other dog after all of the dogs had been in for about 30 minutes. He was so happy to be out with just the staff and the dog (the rest of the day he’d seemed really pensive & not playing like his normal self as I snuck 5 minute peeks).
I saw the photo get taken and then they went right back inside (60 seconds total trip) & didn’t come out again til the next run. I just wish the photo could’ve been more real, aka was taken in real action, not with a set up. I saw the photo on FB and I felt a little cheap :(.

HOWEVER!
Overall — I liked the BHV staff and the place seems really fun.
Once my pup is more of a daycare veteran, and can go to the ATHLETIC CLUB where they play all day — BHV could definitely escalate to my #1 (or at least 50% share) daycare. I love AC because the dogs (have to be 1yr old) can play all day on agility stuff and it seems to be indoor/​outdoor. 1year for an Athletic Club day is probably going to be the next time I bring my pup there.
In the meantime — BHV Lofts is a cool place run by very nice people — and we’ll be back.

We love Barking Hound and so does our pup! The staff is super friendly and remembered our dogs name after the first day. They genuinely make an effort to let the owners know details about their dog. Brooks, the manager, took us on a tour of the facilities so we felt comfortable with our dog being there. Combined with the daily pictures on Facebook and friendly staff, there is no hesitation that your dog will be cherished and well cared for!

In the 2 years I’ve had my dog I have always boarded her at BHV every time I’ve been on vacation or thought she could do with some extra special fun and pampering. They do a good job in looking after her and letting her have fun time in the yard with the other dogs. I’m very fond of the manager Brooks, he’s a great guy and always looks after my dog. I haven’t had any qualms in all the time I’ve taken her there. She doesn’t move for two days after spending just one at BHV, so I know she gets a good workout.

I have been taking our dog here since we got her 2 years ago. I can’t speak highly enough about the manager, Brooks, and his staff. They are always pleasant and helpful when dropping off Hailey and Hailey loves them as she runs straight to them to receive their attention. I have taken her to daycare, boarded and had her groomed and I’ve never been disappointed with any of these services.

I just picked up my goldendoodle puppy from BHV after dropping her off to be groomed. Her hair was a good six inches long and she was looking pretty shaggy. Several ‘groomers’ had told us that they couldn’t cut her because it would be difficult and they didn’t know how.
Julianne (I think is her name) did a fantastic job! She was more than willing to discuss my concerns on the phone, called to let me know there was an extra charge and even offered to touch anything up if we weren’t happy. We are so pleased with her customer service and grooming abilities!
Also, our pup LOVES their doggie daycare. :) I highly recommend this place. The staff remember our dog’s name as soon as we walk in the door.

I live at the AMLI Old Fourth Ward and my husband and I got our dog this summer. We were looking around for a place to take her for daycare nd the prices at BHV are great. Plus as a resident of AMLI we receive 20% off of daycare costs. My dog is very excited to go there and returns tired and worn out! All of the staff know my dog’s name and are very friendly and helpful.
Our dog was boarded for the first time over Thanksgiving and we were really happy with the service and care that she received. We were even able to designate a friend to pick the dog up when our flight came in after the closing time.
I highly recommend BHV.

After all the years I have taken my dog to barking hound village I realized I have yet to write a review. My experience here has been very positive. The staff has always been really friendly. My dog quickly hops out of the car to go there in the morning and is worn out and tired when I take him home in the evening. He also boards at BHV too in addition to doggie day care.
I have done my shopping around, and you can’t beat the price at BHV. Recently, I moved a little bit further away from BHV and I looked at taking my pup to a place more convenient to my new home. The deal I got at BHV was much bettert than other comparable places and they have longer hours than most other places (open till 8:00PM M-​F and open till 7:00PM on Sunday). Because of this, I still drive slightly out of my way, passing up more convenient locations to go to BHV.

So, the address on this place is correct, but it is not located in EAV. Rather, it’s behind the Kroger in Poncey-​Highland. I recently went to visit the Barking Hound Village in the middle of the day to check things out, and the manager (Brooks) was there to greet me. He was very friendly, and without asking gave me a tour of the place. It seemed like all the doggies were having a blast!
I brought my 93lb Black Lab today for his first day of doggie daycare. Bottom line, he loved it! He came out wagging his tail, and they gave me a personalized «report card» to let me know how he did. I also found it impressive that they recognized me by name when I walked in (which isn’t something that happens at a lot of places). I’m also impressed that this place has fairly decent web cams so you can watch your dogs playing during the day, and the staff put up pictures of the doggies on Facebook at the end of every day!
When we got home, my big buddy was ready for a nap from his day of playing!
