We are the premier knitting shop on the beautiful Central Coast of California. We are passionate about yarn, knitting and crochet. We are color enthusiasts and our wide range of fibers reflects that love.

We have a large assortment of yarns, needles and patterns from the best brands. You won’t find a better selection of colors and textures anywhere else in the area.

Every Tuesday and Thursday nights are Knit Nights, we welcome new knitters and crochetters to this fun social event. We host fun Yarn and Wine Tasting events, and classes for beginning and more experienced knitters. Our mission is to serve the needs of our customers and to keep them progressing at their chosen craft.

There is something happening in the store every week — stop by and check out the fantastic selection, learn about the latest knitting techniques or join our Knit Nights. There is plenty of free onsite parking and complementary WiFi access for all our guests.

History

Established in 2010.

Abby Jewel opened Ranch Dog Knitting on the corner of Traffic Way and Palma Avenue.

Abby said she started the businesses because she wanted to go back to work, but wanted to do something she enjoyed. Ranch Dog Knitting is not just a store, but also a place where people can take in their projects and sit and work on them alongside other knitters.

Abby said she picked downtown Atascadero as the location for her store because it is centrally located to her children’s schools and she expects downtown to blossom.

«I think it’s got a good feeling here,» she said.

Abby said she started the businesses because she wanted to go back to work, but wanted to do something she enjoyed. Knitting, she said, is something she’s been doing since she was a little girl, coming from a family of knitters.

«I’ve knitted all my life,» Abby said. «My mom taught me to knit. I never get bored with it.»
