Your experience here will totally depend on which employees help you. Some of them are super helpful and knowledgeable, and others it seems are only interested in watering the plants. They have a good selection. I’ve gotten fruit trees, roses, evergreen shrubs, shade trees, flowers and more.

I love this place– and the people who work there-​they are SO knowledgeable and helpful. And FRIENDLY! I could wander around this place all day. They have every type of plant, pot, garden supplies and garden «art» that you could possibly want. Would like to see more house plants, but otherwise, it’s wonderful. Going back soon. I’m sure that my car will be loaded with beautiful plants and art once again!

Attitude and demeanor are a low point for this nursery. The women are rude and snippy. I was inquiring about a plant and when told by them they were out of the plant I said I would try another nursery.
They said «Good luck with that».
Needless to say that they were rude and did so in front of other customers. They have been rude on many occasions. They may have a charming store and nursery but the customer service and treatment is a zero.

had some plants delivered from this nursery. most plants looked good and now are starting to grow, however, 3 out of 4 red raspberry plants did not survive. as in no growth. called their customer service (term is a big stretch) and was told «to wait another week or so». right until their «season is over and we cannot send you replacements until next year». how convenient!

Only reason I gave it three stars because of the sweet helpful young lady who helped us pick out blueberry, raspberry and grape canes. The weather was still iffy as far as the rain (el Nino) so she said we could purchase them and that they would keep them for us until we were ready to plant them and they would care for them (heck they are dormant) She did not say how long they would keep them. So we recently (last week) picked up some of them and told the same sweet young girl that we will pick up the others in a few days. We didn’t want a bunch of plants sitting around that needed planting since the conditions at the nursery was ideal. So the next day I get a call from a rude lady at the nursery asking when we were going come get the rest of our plants, she said «we need to get on with our life, when are you going to come get your plants.» Heck we were just there and told the girl we would come back and get the others. She did not say to us, we needed to take it now, and I appreciated that. I had already paid for them. And I understand that I need to pick them up but they didn’t have to rudely call me and make me feel bad. Besides I bought a fruit tree from them a year and a half ago and the thing had leaf rot and I had to pay for a special liquid to take care of the leaf rot and it still never fruited. Also they said I need a receipt. I didn’t keep my receipt (my fault) Well there are plenty of nurseries around the central coast. I am disappointed. So today I go, same thing. Picked up my plants and they act like they are the only nursery around and not worried about pleasing customers. They all seem to be in a bad mood. Im taking my money elsewhere.

Best to get a plant you want when you see it– they do sell out!
Willing to special order and will call when it comes in-​as in ALL nurseries but especially smaller ones they can’t always get what you want when you want it– that depends on their wholesalers. Sometimes it can take a very long time before a plant is available from the grower. They have come through for me. I’m glad Bay Laurel tries.
I’ve found the staff to be very helpful and the past yr or so pretty knowledgeable. I’ve always got a lot of questions. If the person I’m working with doesn’t know an answer he/​she will try to get it from a more senior staff person, especially if you ask them if someone else might know. This climate is new to me and one of the most important things I look for in a
nursery is good information.
One down– side is the kinds of fertilizers/​plant supplies are quite limited. However they do carry good brands.

I’m confused by all the reviews saying the staff is friendly and helpful. I have been here several times and the staff has always been rude. Stopped going here a long time ago.

Bay Laurel seems to be a victim of their own success. They were ‘temporarily’ out of stock of a tree I wanted, and offered to order one in. Several weeks passed with no communication. When I called for an update they said «don’t call us, we will call you when the tree comes in.» Several weeks later they called to say the tree wasn’t coming at all. Bummer.
That said, they generally are friendly, smart, and have a dynamite selection.

I love having this nursery in town as it has the most helpful and educated staff out of the 2. You do need to make sure you talk to an employee that actually gardens to get your questions answered. But, when you find him/​her the fountain of knowledge and experience is overflowing. The cost is a bit higher than a few other nurseries in the county that I also enjoy. But, being the only decent option in the actual town I live in the convenience of that forgives the extra cost. I have found that they can order me any plant in without a fee and it comes quickly.

hands down the best nursery in A-​town …

I was having trouble finding a wide selection of drought tolerant plants at my local Home Depot, so broadened my search to more locally owned nurseries in the area. And I’m glad I did — Bay Laurel had everything I needed and then some! They have such an extensive selection (from Chardonnay grape plants to agave) at reasonable prices. Will definitely be heading back here soon to explore what else I can put in the garden…

I had high hopes for this business. The nursery is arranged well, the flowers are beautiful, and I love that they focus on plants that will thrive in Atascadero’s climate. However, I’ve been to the nursery 4 times now and each time I’ve been severely disappointed with the service. The women who work there are never pleasant or helpful. I’m surprised to read that other reviewers have felt otherwise. I truly wish that I could have been happy with this nursery but, unfortunately, today will mark my very last visit. I’m more than happy to spend my money elsewhere. I really expected more from a local company.

Excellent gardening store. The people working there really know their stuff and are willing to spend the time to offer advice and find the right the plants.

This is a fantastic local botanist’s dream! From a large selection of seasonal flowers to larger fruit and non-​fruit bearing trees. Our family has purchased literally dozens of trees to put on our slopes at the family home and property. We’ve even bought a lot of goods to build a home vineyard which is just now producing plenty of grapes even in this sandy North County soil!

I love this place. Everyone is friendly and helpful and they carry beautiful plants. I do wish they had a bigger selection of house plants.

I liked this place! nice tree selection, nice garden extra goodies to choose from (Watch out or you will impulse buy like I did) Ot but the things are so cute! The staff was helpful and answered all my questions, I will be back — Thanks Bay Laurel

I love this nursery … it’s artfully arranged; full of caring attentive staff with great ideas, and terrific, healthy flowers and plants. They even called me to say I had left my sunglasses there … which were expensive prescription ones, so I was thrilled. Bay Laurel is for the serious gardener as well as the not-​so-​serious looking to perk up the yard.
