I’m pretty sure Joy is the best bartender ever and the owner rocks! Great place with a really great selection of beers and liquor. I went on a Saturday night and the place was bumping. I would highly suggest you check this place out!

I absolutely love this place! Jason, Chris, and Devon are all awesome bartenders and very attentive. The drinks are good and cheap what more could you ask for ?! The local does karaōke on Friday nights and they literally have any and every song you would want to sing. The backyard area is so cute and cozy, and they even have a TV out there so you won’t miss the game. If you are nice about it and request to put a specific game on they will do it for you ! This is my sports bar, I feel like I’m at home when I’m here.

Nice place to hang out and catch up with friends. Though it’s not a huge sports bar, the local is friendly and drinks are priced well enough that you can have fun and save money. Definitely nice to get away from the main strip on Steinway.

The local is a great bar! Excellent craft beer selection, lots of large TV’s, complimentary popcorn, outdoor seating, and the bartenders are all very friendly! The beers are always changing which is nice, and the bartenders will let you try samples of any of the draft beers. No kitchen, so the complimentary popcorn is a nice option! Can’t say enough about the staff. We have been to the Local 5 times, each time we had a different bartender and they have all been extremely nice. Its great to have a craft beer bar close to home. We’ll be back for sure!

This place is fantastic! This June, I brought ended a hash here(we’re a drinking team with a running problem) and, not only did they give me a fantastic deal on pitchers(they have a great assortment of craft beers on tap), they were extremely friendly and accommodating to my group of about 30! It was a Friday night and they had karaōke, which was a huge hit with the team. Thanks so much to everyone at the local who made this event a huge success! We look forward to going back :) If you’re holding a gathering or just looking for a chill bar with delicious beer and friendly staff, go to The Local!

I really like this place. Great drinks and atmosphere, lovely bartender(Joy), and I met one of the owners who was very cool. Karaōke night is super fun too! Highly recommend!

Chris is the best. Jukebox is rad as shit. And we had a really, really great time. Unlimited popcorn. Good vibes. I mean, dive bar love.

I love this place but I’m only giving one star until Joyana the bartender is back. The woman there now is so rude. We ordered pickle back shots and she gave us onion juice instead of pickle juice. She is NEVER nice or pleasant. As a bartender, even if you are in a foul mood, you should be connecting with your customers. We are great customers and she is CONSISTENTLY rude to us despite our patronage(we are here every weekend). See you next Tuesday bia.

Came in on a bustling Friday night and was looking for a neighborhood bar as I heard Astoria friendly places to drink. Being from Los Angeles I was expecting a local crowd with a friendly vibe however to my surprise I found that the place had maybe one or two people in it with karaōke going on in the background and was totally caught off guard because the reviews were so great. Service was fast. The bar itself was pretty spacious and I feel that there could have been a lot more potential for a good time at a place like this. Bought ourselves two rounds of vodka and redbull however no one was trickling in and the hopes of an awesome Friday night at a high rated bar kind of went down the drain a little bit disappointed but great service nonetheless.

Paulette is awesome! So friendly and loved all the people here. They all have character. I was offered popcorn and had no idea it would be fresh popped buttered popcorn! Here I was wasting time for a dinner reservation at another location and I don’t want to leave here!

This is definitely a hole in the wall kind of bar. I like my share of hole in the wall bars, but was not that impressed with this one. I was excited about the craft beer selection, but not so excited when it took me ten minutes to get my beer when it was not really that busy. Well it took me like five minutes to get my beer and then another five to get my change. We then took a seat on the outside deck which I thought was nice. That is until a number of people walked out back and started smoking. The no smoking sign posted on the wall didn’t seem to stop them. Nor did the staff who obviously knew they were smoking. I then noticed the large stand up ash tray by the door. hmmm. so there is a no smoking sign, but they will provide you with an ash tray for those cigarettes that you can’t smoke. The smoke pretty much turned me off and we left shortly after.

Came in to watch basketball playoffs and really enjoyed this bar! The popcorn was plentiful(a little too much because it’s hard to stop eating!) and the bartender was really nice. They have a ton of menus for you to get delivery because there’s no food there. After the game we played darts. Had a great time!

This spot has my favorite beer selection in the neighborhood. It isn’t big, but they know their stuff. They are also constantly getting new beers in, and will be adding more taps soon. The manager is even trying to get one of my favorite hometown beers on tap, which would be awesome. The prices simply cannot be beat in New York, and the staff are all really amazing. The setup is great for watching a game on one of the TVs, and while they may not have a kitchen, the bartenders can suggest some great nearby options for delivery. They have great daily deals and happy hour specials, and also have a few cheap beer options that are available all the time. Don’t miss Mondays, when you flip a coin and can get your drink free if you call it right.

Where do I start… I had the pleasure of being introduced to the Local by my girlfriend’s roomie when looking for a location to throw a surprise birthday party. The bar is located slightly off of the beaten path, but I like that. The name is fitting as it does appeal to people who live in the area, but don’t want to deal w Steinway/Broadway/30th ave. The space — since they’ve recently opened just about 2 months ago, the place is super clean and fresh. The stools, paint, and bar itself are clear indicators. This is what actually sold me on throwing the party there. Service — one of the owners, Stacey, was VERY accomodating to my needs allowing us to have a dj, bring in catered food(there’s no kitchen), decorate, and hold the ice cream cake in their fridge. She was eager to please the customers needs and did so without a speed bump. Thank you Stacey. The bartenders were wonderful as well. The girl who was there for the first shift(sorry forgot your name) lent a hand in decorating, and was very welcoming. The bartender serving the party shift was quick, friendly, and really went the extra mile for her customers. I gave her a tray of food, and she gave some to her regular customers which was a very nice gesture. Even the bar back did what he could to help everyone out. Solid. Overall, the Local won me over. Go and check the place out.

This is my favorite new go-to spot in the neighborhood. I wandered in randomly one night on my walk home– it turned out it was their inaugural Friday Night. I’ve been a staple here ever since. A HUGE upgrade from the abysmal wreck that was Crehan’s, this place is a great mix of locals who are all breathing a collective sigh or relief that we have found a neighborhood bar with cheap drinks, friendly staff(and incredible ownership), and positive vibes all around. Stop in for a drink but beware– once you set foot through this door, you can’t stop at just one. And quite frankly, you won’t want to.

We stopped in here the other day for a drink and had a great time. They haven’t even had their opening soirée yet, but the place is open for business. What I liked — Jason our bartender was fantastic. He’s on the ball, makes a nice manhattan, and is a local himself so was a lot of fun to talk to. It’s fun but not too loud, you can actually have a conversation. And the beer selection is OK, they could definitely stand to put some better craft beers on tap, but they have Harpoon which was great. No food, but we ordered in which is kinda better in a way as you can get whatever you want. Definitely a new go-to spot for me.

Their beer list or their staff… which is better? I don’t know. Their level two cicerone is always cycling beers through their shiny new tap system. For those of you who know the kinda shady old joint that used to be here, FEARNOT! It is safely under new ownership, a brand new interior, and even a brand new garden out back! If you don’t know what to drink, just ask Chris or Ann-Marie. They won’t steer you wrong. Weekly trivia, karaōke, and open mics.
