History

Established in 2007.

Rèst-âü-Ránt was conceived by Tina Stipanovic and born in November of 2007, with the intention of sharing with our Astoria neighborhood some great wine, quality beer, and Tina’s favorite foods.

Today, our cozy place known by its patrons as RaR bar, attracts locals and newcomers alike, with an international selection of wines, craft beers, curated cocktails, and creative tapas. The horseshoe-shaped bar – which, like much of the restaurant’s décor, Tina built by hand – forms the heart of Rèst-âü-Ránt. The convivial atmosphere starts here, where the friendly, face-to-face setup and lack of TVs helps strangers ease into conversations and friendships.

The amiable spirit continues with the menu of shareable plates, influenced by the neighborhood’s cultural diversity and featuring locally sourced, organic ingredients whenever possible.

We invite you to visit us and discover why many of our patrons consider Rèst-âü-Ránt Astoria’s best kept secret.

Tina S.

Business Owner

Tina Stipanovic is the chef and owner of Rèst-âü-Ránt. Hailing from Croatia, she has been a resident of Astoria for the last 22 years. So what’s her story you ask?

Originally trained as a fine artist with an MFA from Parsons School of Design, Tina harbored a passion for food and cooking from a very early age. She is a self-thought cook drawing influences from her family and background while absorbing her surroundings through her taste buds. The result is Rèst-âü-Ránt’s menu, where her passions collide and coexist.

Tina is happiest when her hands are busy. She truly believes she has a natural genetic need to make stuff and gets bored in normal situations. She is a sculptor, an artist, a crafter, a parent to two young humans, a cook, a gardener and a general DIYer. She has a strong interest in all things pure and simple. No, she’s not a hippy.
