Omni Martial Arts specializes in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), Judo, MMA, Kickboxing (including a combination of American Kick boxing and Muay Thai), and Self Defense. Omni teaches martial arts classes to adults and children of all fitness levels. We serve all of NYC & Queens including Astoria, LIC, Woodside, Sunnyside, Forest Hills, and Manhattan.

Our Kid’s martial arts program was co-founded by a licensed children’s therapist and is designed to help children develop their social skills while learning no-nonsense martial arts skills to keep them safe. We are committed to helping our students develop the discipline, respect and the confidence to succeed in school and in life.

Omni Martial Arts offers expert instruction lead by World Senior Jiu Jitsu Champion Julio Rivera in an eclectic style of self-defense for children and adults since 2009. Our students have won competitions such as The Garden State Judo Championship, LI Pride Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Karate Tournament of Champions, Gold Medal/Dead Serious MMA and many others. Our kids program was developed in conjunction with a licensed children’s therapist to ensure that every student gets the specialized attention they deserve. Through our partnership with Not-For-Profit“Submission Impossible”, we are helping underprivelaged kids gain access to life changing martial arts training. Whether your goal is fitness, self defense or competition, we can be your academy. A tremendously healthy environment to train, learn, get in shape AND STAY IN SHAPE! Walking into Omni is easier than walking into a coffee shop. I’ve been fortunate to train with some of the best BJJ/Judo instructors on the planet; Vitor «Shaolin» Ribeiro, Andrés «Dede» Pederneiras of Rio de Janairo, Jack Krystek in Ozone Park (7^th degree Dan Red Belt), Rillion Gracie in Miami, and Edson Carvalho in Salvador, Brazil… Julio Rivera offers a high level of instruction at Omni and his high level students are trained to help you get better, not leave you behind. What’s more, you’ll never be more accepted for being yourself, anywhere. But don’t take my word for it! Meet Julio and his wife Maria and you may be sold on charisma alone :-)

I signed up with Omni for unlimited classes for six months, and have now completed about three months of the package.
This is going to be an excellent review, but before I tell you why I hold this place in high esteem, let me give you some background. I’m in my 30s, overweight, sedentary, and not used to being around «workout culture», if you know what I mean. I was nervous that I wouldn’t really fit in, that I would be left behind in the dust of others who are physically fitter than I, and didn’t really know what to expect.
However, everyone here is extremely friendly and supportive — not just the staff, who are amazing and knowledgeable, but also the students. The instructors are patient, personable and provide great motivation without shaming you. The workouts are fun and well thought-out.
This is more expensive than a gym membership, but it is also so much more rewarding. You really feel like you’re part of a family when you train here, and, as for me, I am motivated to keep coming back!
They also have classes for kids, and from what I’ve seen (I’m not a parent but have caught the tail end of some classes before my workout), the kids look like they’re having an awesome time!

I have been bringing my son here to OMNI Martial Arts in Astoria for over a year now. I absolutely love this place and so does my son! Sensei Julio is definitely a master in his craft! His knowledge, dedication and leadership goes beyond martial arts. My son has been coming here for four months now and he’s demeanor has been confident, energetic and productive. There is a real sense of community, friendship, family and respect towards your fellow student here. It’s a pretty special place and I’m happy to see my son sparring and learning from the best of the class. Sensei Julio is a professional and has extensive certificates on the wall to put me at ease that my son will learn without getting hurt.
Living in Astoria for over 20 years now, I feel lucky I found this place close to home and thankful Astoria is looking up in creating a safe environment that’s fun and productive for my son to be a part of.

So there’s «kickboxing…» and then there’s «KICKBOXING!» — Regular workouts tend to bore me at times and I’ve found that classes are the way to make things a little more lively. I tried taking kickboxing classes at a couple different locations, enjoying the fundamentals but not quite finding that right fit, then I stumbled into Omni while visiting a friend in the area. After taking one class, I found my match and this guy means business. I get my workout in, I learn to defend myself, and I get my a$$ kicked in that «OH ~ I’m loving these results!» sort of way…

I’ve been training at Omni for just about a month now and have had a great experience. When you enter the school, you’ll notice that the atmosphere is a nice balance between focused and friendly. The training/conditioning is physically demanding, but the dynamic of the group reminds you that having fun is an important part of your training as well. There’s no pretense here and all students (men, women and kids) can feel comfortable.
I’m completely new to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but Sensei Julio and the other students have been patient, knowledgeable and incredibly helpful in getting me into to the sport. The class sizes are fairly small (10 – 15), which allows for a lot of personalized attention (another school I tried in Manhattan had classes of 40). This has allowed me to hang around after class to ask my own specific questions, which has helped a lot.
Amongst the group of student there are many who cross-train through the schools various forms, which is a testament to the quality of the classes Sensei Julio instructs. Adult classes include Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Kickboxing, MMA, and self-defense which are available to any member.
One important thing to note is that the school does not impose yearly contracts on their students. They help you pick a package of classes that best fits your needs/schedule without forcing you into a 12-month commitment like many gyms. This works out well because you won’t be charged for weeks you cannot train which happens to all of us from time to time.
If you’re interested in self-defense and/or getting a great workout (and if you’re tired of the same gym routine like I was), I really recommend that you come watch a class and see what you’re missing.

A great way to workout, release work stress and tension, clear your mind, and not to mention, learn great martial arts skills. I took a few introductory classes, which left me sore, meaning no pain no gain. I learned how to manage myself in very intense enviornments that can lead to huge problems. The Sensei is a great instructor, and shows dilligence and care to all of his students. I have recommended this dojo to many of my friends who are into martial arts or just want to have a great work out. You can’t loose with this part of your routine. It is even worth the travel, if you are not close to it, as is the case with me. I am still in the beginning stages of my martial arts education and I am eager to keep learning to see what comes next.

I took a class at Omni yesterday and I got a kick ass workout! He’s very professional and keeps you on your toes the entire time. It was so much fun that I was on a high the entire day today. Also, I love knowing that as I’m working out I’m learning serious martial arts. I highly recommend Omni!
